I didn't so much vote for Obama as I did vote against McCain.
When you're rocking a battleground state, you gotta play it politically sometimes. It's not that I want Obama in the white house (I don't), but I really don't want Palin anywhere near it. |

I debated for a bit, then chose McCain. Mainly because Obama was never challenged by the press. I want McCain to win mainly for two reasons: 1. McCain won't be able to run in the future, and he is a great center lined politician, 2. Obama is so inexperienced, and people just ignore it because he talks pretty. -------------------- |

I'll take somone who has ability and experience over some dumb fuck with a slick tongue any day of the week, thank you McCain sold his soul for this campaign. His experience is for naught based on his judgment and decisions that he's made within just this past year alone. Most notably: his choice as VP. He tried to gamble and pick a woman thinking all of the disgruntled Hilary supporters would flock to his ticket. ...nope, not even close. It was a pathetic political move that backfired. I'm sure he would have liked to have picked Lieberman, or someone else along those lines, but he chose to pander the party line hardcore....where was "Maverick McCain" then? Hell, he chose her based off a short phone call and even admitted he "didn't know her well at all"! WHAT THE FUCK!? This post has been edited by Psykopath: Nov 4 2008, 03:16 PM -------------------- |

Let's see, he picked a pro oil and gas, pro gun, pro public access to public land running mate. What the hell more do I need? He couldn't have POSSIBLY picked a better running mate for middle class america, especially those of us that live in oil and gas producing states. Texas assuredly included in that. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

I know this is going to happen and this is usually how liberals can PAY for social programs....Obama will raise the death tax. Quite possibly one of the most crooked things wrong with our country. Tax families because someone in their family dies and 50% of their life goes right back to the government. Obama and this now liberally dominated congress will raise that tax and I guarandamntee you I'll be there to fight it.

yeah, what is the fucking point of having life insurance because of the death tax? I think they need to abolish the death tax AND the inheritance tax. I don't think life insurance is taxed by the death tax because it is paid out directly to your beneficiaries. Right now, the way death tax works is that anything over $1 million is taxed at 55%. However, the caveat is this: If you have $5 million dollars and give it all to one person upon death, you will pay (5,000,000 - 1,000,000) *.55 in taxes which equals $2,200,000. However, if you leave 5 different people $1 million each, you will pay $0 dollars in death tax. This is good because it keeps the money divided amongst many people. This is the only known way to prevent economic snowballing where over time, 1% of the families in the country control 95 to 99% of that country's wealth. I fully support a Death tax and I would even support raising it to 75 to even 100%. Here's a concept for the few in this country born with a silver spoon: WORK FOR YOUR MONEY FOR ONCE. Being born into a wealthy family already gives you the best education and most opportunity. The country cannot afford for it's elite to just squander their usefulness to society. And if they choose to do so, they do not deserve to keep their wealth. -------------------- ![]() |

I guess I don't necessarily agree with that at all. If I make a fortune for myself, it's my right to decide who gets it, period, not the fucking government. I look at it this way: Let's say I'm a multi-millionair, or billionair, and I decide to leave my entire fortune to my kid(s). Let's say that perhaps, I'm worth my salt and even though I'm worth this much money, I've spent my entire life training my kids how to not be completley worthless. Even though I could have easily afforded to buy my kid a Porche on his 16th birthday, I bought him a 1985 rust bucket stationw wagon and told him "work for a better car". You see where I am going with this. The result of this is my kid knows where that money came from and that it wasn't just handed to me, and it's not going to just be "handed" to him. Well, technically it is, but if he wants to keep it or make more of it, he's gonna have to learn the ropes and not be a complete assfuck. All in all, if I'm the one that makes a fortune, it's my right to decide what to do with that fortune, not the governments. On the flipside, let's say what you're speaking of happens, and the "rich kids" are just complete fuckups. Ok, so they have more money than god now. They probably are going to spend spend spend spend spend spend until it's gone, they wind up on drugs, then have to put money into the healthcare industry for rehab. That was their choice. Also, you say that anything over $1,000,000 is taxed %55. There is an ENORMOUS difference between a guy who has made himself $1,000,000 and that being taxed %55 upon wanting to give it to somone and somone who has made $10,000,000 ... a bigger difference between $10,000,000 and $500,000,000 .... see what I'm getting at? This bullshit of a "one size fits all" upper tax bracket, be it in the death tax or income taxes, is garbage ... Let's face it, a million bucks isn't the same million bucks it was 20 years ago. If I would have had a million bucks 20 years ago I would have thought "Wow I can retire" ... now I'm like "Ok, I can buy a house, a car, and some nice shit, then pay taxes on all that for maybe 5 years then I'm fucked". That is mindless to tax somone %55 becuse they acrued $1,000,000 in wealth over the course of their lifetime. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

They would have to accrue significantly more than $1 million for that tax to even mean anything and even then, they could divide their assets amongst their family instead of just giving it to one person to avoid the tax.
Listen, you can make the exact same argument about income tax. After all, if I spend 8 hours a day earning money, it should be my right to decide what I want to do with my money, right? Yeah... It's a very fair tax in my opinion. -------------------- ![]() |

So what if you're the one that's made that money and you only have one child? I guess I should have either: 1) Given it to him before I died. 2) Had more children. 3) Taught my only child how to earn his own damn money. Listen, you may not agree, but we do not want another 1800's. If you can come up with another way to keep our economy from going to shit because eventually all the money in the country becomes owned by just a few families, I am open ears. -------------------- ![]() |

Listen, you may not agree, but we do not want another 1800's. If you can come up with another way to keep our economy from going to shit because eventually all the money in the country becomes owned by just a few families, I am open ears. Well, when you're talking about hundreds of millions or billions of dollars, perhaps this tax begins to make sense. However, capping it at a measly $1,000,000 is rediculous. If it were a tiered system instead of a one-size-fits all flat tax on anything over a given amount, I could see the logic behind it. Anything other than that is just a money grab by the federal government. And, let's say you wanted to give your kid that money BEFORE you died. Then, the kid would have to report it as income and you'd also be hit with an inheritance tax if I'm not mistaken, so between both of those taxes it's essentially the same thing. And who is to say my kid hasn't earned his own money or isn't earning his own money? To a lot of middle class families, it can take AN ENTIRE LIFETIME to earn $1,000,000 ... The way you're explaining this to me is like somone just happened upon this money when they turned 60 or something. Also, are you talking about being taxed on cash, as in what that person has in their bank account, or say perhaps that they have accrued assets worth $1,000,000 ... say they own a house worth XXX dollars, cars worth XXX dolloars, furniture, whatever ... And they leave all that to you. So now 1/2 of what they accrued over an entire lifetime now belongs to the feds? Yeah that's an incredibly fair tax. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

Wow.... because its the governments job to decide where my money goes... fuck that. And as you said, i can just give it away while im alive, and guess what, THATS WHAT HAPPENS. Billionaires aren't affected by rules like this. Death tax is one of the most UNFAIR taxes and complete theft by wasteful governement in my opinion. "omg, you're rich, its unfair that your kids get the money and not mine" -------------------- |

Propose a better system. If you really support the complete annihilation of the middle class, then I can understand your support for getting rid of the death tax.

Propose a better system. And just an aside: There is no reason to misspell ridiculous. For fuck's sake, the word is underlined red when it's misspelled. I just did propose a better system. In fact, I proposed several. And no, it's not underlined when it's misspelled. Spelling is for 4th graders, I will have no part in it at this point in my life. Anyways. Proposal #1: Eliminate the fucking thing entirley Proposal #2: Model the "wealth curve" as the exponential curve it is. Put your tax amount at the "average" tax point in question based on an exponential wealth curve from 10,000 to 10,000,000,00 or whatever upper cap is needed with respect to a final cap of %50 at whatever the top level is. Determineing the "top" cap would be difficult and at the drop of a hat I don't have a full-on mathematical solution but something like this could exist. IE, it would be an exponentially increasing tax rate up to a certain cap, similar to a flat tax but not flat because it adjusted for the exponential difference in wealth from top to bottom. Again this is just a possible idea if you can kind of see what I'm getting at . Proposal #3: Model the system after income taxes, IE, death tax up to 1,000,000 pays nothing, 1,000,000-5,000,000 pays %15, 5,000,000-25,000,000 pays %25, etc. At least attempt to make it fair. Proposal #4: Adjust the threshhold to a meangingful number so as to not completley terrorize the middle-to-upper middle class people. None of this would ever happen of course, because it's a money grab by the liberals in the federal government and they can tell their bottom of the barrel constituents that they're "sticking it to the rich people" to scrounge up votes. That's pretty much why this tax exists, it has a lot less to do with preventing the wealthiest families in the US from accruing too much wealth. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

NOT the job of the government to make sure the middle class isn't "annihilated" despite how retarded the idea that the middle class will be annihilated is. If rich people need something done... what exactly do they have to do? oh yeah PAY people. Thus they aren't hording the money, its going back to everyone else. Wealth in stock and equity grows business (thus jobs), and money in banks is lended out for OTHERS to make money. Your idea of money hording that needs to be solved is laughable at best. You are merely proposing that more money go to the GOVERNMENT which doesn't give money back, they make wasteful shit programs that fail because of being run by a beurocracy. So how about i propose you let capitalism work as it always had with the whole "american dream" thing -------------------- |

You have a fucked up view of how the government can use YOUR money... scary. Hey, believe it or not, if the government wants your land, they have to PAY for that ... can you believe it... even if the land is going to starving children shelters or something. -------------------- |

So does Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. And honestly, I value their opinion over Seth Nobody. I think both of you are really angry at the estate tax because of what you think it is, rather than what it really is. -------------------- ![]() |

So it's compleltey fair and just to put somone who has made $1,000,000 in their lifetime in the same bracket as two men whose combined worth is over 100,000,000,000 Pure genius And no, I'm pretty sure I see this for what it really is, a money grab by the federal government. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

No, I took the number that you stated in an earlier reply.
