Ok, I'm working on a backup of a drive that's slowly dying. I'm down to like the last 15 files or so, but they're big ones. I've been trying to copy them across the network, but every so often the drive will hiccup and interrupt the copy, leaving me with a partial file on the backup drive. Is there any good way to copy files that will try longer to re-establish connection to the source drive before giving up? I've been using cp -rpu on Cygwin since it's slightly less retarded than Windows copy/paste, but it still doesn't have any fault detection/recovery that I know of.

Zipping might work. I'll give it a try Monday. Any other suggestions?

so did it work? If the index and not the data are corrupted, there are programs out there that can data dump it info. Lance or my brother would probably know more.

I tried another run with SyncToy this morning and it seems to be going smoothly. 5 of 12 files successfully copied, last I checked. Apparently it's more error-tolerant, though it if DOES crap out, it dies for the rest of the run... whereas Linux cp will keep chugging along through the rest of the files.
