This guy is saying that the U.S. and Israel fomented this war in Georgia in order to distract Russia as the U.S. either blockades or invades Iran. It makes sense to me.

like tying up a couple hundred tanks and some troops is a "distraction" for Russia.

and seriously, why are you starting like 15 threads about this conflict?

if you think the russian offensive was just some fly-by-night operation with a bunch of rag-tag troops then you're a fucking moron

they defeated a whole country that was very well equipped and trained in one day (something the u.s. could never do heh)... that took ALOT of military strategic planning, communications, and logistics... if you don't think that's a distraction then maybe you should hand your college degree back to tech

I didn't say it was some fly-by-night operation so don't get so giddy with your "fucking moron" kiddie bullshit. I said it wasn't a distraction. When Russia has over a million active troops and tens of thousands of tanks and planes, this operation did not "distract" shit.

I actually can't blame Russia for this one. Although I think they over-responded, Georgia was the one who started the conflict. By invading a sovereign country (South Ossetia) and not expect a retaliation from their protectorate is a pretty brazen act.

This shows you though that Russia is pretty sound militarily and isn't like the weak country we knew after the Cold War.

agreed 100% . It has seemed for a while like Russia is chomping at the bit for some action and this gave them a perfectly valid reason to get after it.

i disagree. russia accomplished this in one day by carpet bombing civilians as well as uniformed troops. you don't think that any other country could accomplish this with a blatent disregard for all wartime codes of conduct?

if russia and america were 2 dogs, and russia is "unleashed" america could still hold it's own... take america off that moral leash, and we could do to russia way worse than what russia is capable of... i have no doubts of what "america is capable of"

wait. i thought south ossetia wasn't a country, but just a breakaway area...and most countries, even the US, recognize it.

I think it's more along the lines of Russia trying to regain the former Russian Empire (not the Soviet Union), and seeing the conflict in S Ossetia as a perfect excuse.

Putin was in China one minute and on the battlefield the next. Everyone knows the current President of Russia is a puppet.

Just because the Iron Curtain has fallen doesn't mean the communists or revolutionaries are gone.

An interesting tidbit: Stalin's father was an Ossetian.

How is Impala lacking in common sense here? Even if the conflict in Georgia is tying up a lot of resources, it likely pales in comparison to the full strength of the Russian military. It's also not as if Russia is the only country that would notice and oppose a US blockade/invasion of Iran. If this WAS meant as a distraction for Russia, it was a pretty poorly planned one.
