http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?i...p;type=category

Ok so this article explains that Best Buy customers who purchased an HD DVD player before the end of February will receive a complimentary $50 gift card.

That's neat...

What I found even more interesting, though, was a link at the bottom of the page to a trade-in site run by Best Buy. Pretty neat if you bought something you weren't pleased with.

OK this site is cooler than I thought. I just typed in all the info for an old cell phone I have (including that it had physical wear and tear) and it offered me $45 + a shipping label for it. RAD!

Just found out that the money is loaded onto a Best Buy gift card, but hell, I'll take that. I didn't think I would get anymore than $20 on ebay for that phone. Granted, they have to inspect the phone first, but I reported accurately so I should get what they offered.

I sent off the phone with the pre-paid shipping label today. I will let you know if I get what was estimated ($45) and how long it takes. I mean, this is a neat concept. I don't care if it's on a gift card or not.

Yeah I'll be interested to hear what ya get. I bought my HD-DVD player as a display model so I'm curious whether or not I'll get a gift cert.

You should so long as you bought it before the end of Feb (which I think you did)... I think it's their way of saying... "Yeah...we sold a product that didn't make it, but come back to our store because we will give you a $50 gift card to make up for it." Shouldn't matter whether it was a floor model or not. That's just what I think though.

ok terrible experience with the best buy trade-in thing. DONT USE IT. They said my phone wasn't functioning because the phone I sent in sometimes scrolls through the contacts by itself. It's not a huge issue at all. In fact, it's kind of a known problem with chocolates. Anyways, they said I wouldnt get any money for it AND I have to PAY THEM $20 to get the phone back. MOTHER FUCKERS

sounds like you failed to report that when you turned in the online form.

why should they mail it back for free? if it wasnt reported then they shouldn't have to bear the costs of shipping it.

I reported the condition as fair. It's not poor. It works. How is that not reporting the condition? I couldn't write in there that it had problems with the scroll system. It was all drop down menus. They should mail it back for free because the fucking thing works. I would rather give it back to Verizon who donates it to The Battered Women's Shelter than have corporate Best Buy keep it and sell it.
