I suppose you could call this the answer to "An Inconvienient Truth" ...

This is an hour and fifteen minutes long. I suggest you all actually watch it before posting.

Really. Before you post, watch it.

why exactly are you so anti-climate change?

I think I remembered reading something in a prior thread, but don't quite remember.

Please re-read my instructions as for the requirements for responding to this thread.

WATCH THE MOTHER FUCKING MOVIE BEFORE YOU RESPOND TO THIS POST

I'm not even bothering to argue with you people if your attention spans are so small you can't be bothered to watch a documentary that's basically pulled together every thought I've had on this subject and put it all together in a coherent peice that's very well executed.

I was asking an unrelated question to the movie...

So you can't answer the question regardless if I watched the movie or not?

Another related question that I think you can answer whether or not I've seen the movie or not: Did you watch Inconvenient Truth

I watched (most of) An Inconvenient Truth. I thought it was a horrid piece of propaganda, with little of substance to support it. Not as bad as Michael Moore, but close.

And yes, I believe in global warming.

I've just wondered if Dogmeat has extended the same courtesy to "Global Warming Advocates" as he expects the advocates to extend to his ideas (I am going to assume not since he didn't emphatically say something like "YES I'VE SEEN THE FUCKING MOVIE" in an appropriate 36pt. font).

No, I haven't seen the movie, and I don't intend to. Every peice of information that movie portrays has been widley reported on any major news outlet for the last decade, I really don't need to subject myself to Al Gore's political blathering in order to know what's in there.

That film was, is, and always will be a peice of political propaghanda.

You have a career politician....the guy has a fucking journalism degree for christ's sakes ... and he's claiming to be the authoratitative source on atmosphereic science.

This isn't even a scientific debate anymore, it's a relegious debate.

Out of curiosity, who doesn't believe global warming exists (not necessarily due to humans, just the fact that it doesn't exist)? Do people not believe in naturally occurring cyclical climate patterns?

I believe it exists and is partially due to human influences, but that probably most of it is due to (as blaarg said) naturally occurring cyclical climate patterns.

Let me clarify:

I believe that the warming that we will begin experiencing in the coming centuries (not immediate, I hate people who paint it as immediate apocalypse) are due to human influences (and I will even say, maybe no principally due to humans).

I was just pointing out that Impala asked you if you believed in global warming (independent of human involvement),which I thought was a funny question. I can imagine someone would be hard pressed to find a person who didn't believe in at least naturally occurring warming cycles!

you want us to watch (and support) a far right-wing piece of propaganda, but you refuse to watch a far left-wing propagandized "documentary" to counter it, for lack of a better phrase?

*sticks fingers in ears*

why waste my time? "ive heard all the same reports in the media." and every piece of that information can be put up against other information for global warming and its massive human involvement. it all boils down to whether you think climatologist and atmospheric scientists are more credible or lobbyists and people who are paid to come up with their conclusions

well, the movie has at least 6 different climatologists who are claiming that man-made global warming is essentially a hoax, so I'm gonna put more stock in what they have to say than a career politician trying to scare people into supporting his policies.

What I find hilarious about virtually every reply in this thread is that the movie predicts it.

Any time somone speaks out against the pop-culture belief that global warming is entirley man made, and we're all doomed unless we vote for the politicians who will save us, you're labeled as a heretic.

None of you even so much as bothered to watch the movie as you already knew it shreds your precious global warming theories to bits and you simply can't stand the fact that it doesn't fit your own political beliefs.

If I thought for one fucking second that there was any credible evidence of global warming that was caused by Co2 emissions from industrialized nations, I wouldn't be posting stuff like this.

The bottom line is, you people have a bunch of career politicians, special interest groups, lobbyists, whoever pushing this.

There is no "scientific consensus" on man-made global warming, only that "Yes, the earth undergoes climatatic changes over the course of the planet's lifecycle" ...

Seriously, this is purley a political/relegious subject ... any time you get lawyers and politicians involved in something, it throws what the truth is out the window....this is definatley that way.

Christ, 500 years ago these same people pushing man-made global warming would have been the ones hanging people who spoke out about how the world was round .... think about it.

didnt we try to make you watch a video proving that co2 emissions do contribute significantly to global warming and you didnt watch it? so arent you doing the exact same thing, though with less credibility to hold up your point

the side with the lawyers and politicians have been antiglobal warming and human involvement for a significant amount of time, even now to a large extent. you dont even know what youre talking about. you think the largest lobby group isnt against the idea that co2 emissions etc lead to climate change? do you know what country you live in? each one of your points is totally contradictory

http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2007/s1977366.htm
the global warming swindle - same vid you are talking about. theres been accusations from the scientists on it that the editors twisted their opinions and statements and made them seem like they were on the opposite side of the issue then the one they are on. good quote from the interview
QUOTE
It's not a science film at all. It's a political statement.

in addition several production companies/networks that played durkins documentary have shut it off and distanced themselves from it because it was found out to be horribly and unethically done

QUOTE
The Great Global Warming Swindle, was based on graphs that were distorted, mislabelled or just plain wrong. The graphs were nevertheless used to attack the credibility and honesty of climate scientists.

… Other graphs used out-of-date information or data that was shown some years ago to be wrong. Yet the programme makers claimed the graphs demonstrated that orthodox climate science was a conspiratorial “lie” foisted on the public.

Channel 4 yesterday distanced itself from the programme, referring this newspaper’s inquiries to a public relations consultant working on behalf of Wag TV, the production company behind the documentary.

BBC's Channel 4 was what the documentary was on

oh heres some more of the political side that you hate so much dogmeat:
QUOTE
The Independent reporters asked the documentary makers, Wag TV, for the sources for the information they used to create their ‘World Temp - 120 Years’ graph, which was the centrepiece of their solar-activity-induced global warming theory - and were referred to a dated and obscure journal produced by well-known climate sceptics who were funded by the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine and the George C Marshall Institute, a right-wing Washington think-tank.

QUOTE
On 5 July 2007, The Guardian reported that Professor Mike Lockwood, a solar physicist at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory had carried out a study, initiated partially in response to The Great Global Warming Swindle, that disproved one of the documentary's key planks — namely that global warming directly correlates to solar activity. Lockwood's study showed that solar activity had diminished subsequent to 1987, despite a steady rise in the temperature of the Earth's surface. The study, to be published in a Royal Society journal, used temperature and solar data recorded from the last 100 years.

dogmeat, why were you saying this video was so much more credible than an inconvenient truth?

it's true that gore's movie is a massive piece of political propaganda...

yet when some scientists want to rebuke those claims in their own response you come back and say its just as political...

so then that means we can never find the truth...

how fucking stupid is that

i'm going to side with the scientists who have spent a lot of their life studying this...not al gore and his pocket pals

and thanks dogmeat.....the video was very interesting

ugh. by al gores pocket pals you mean scientists who have spent their lives studying this?

the science channel is showing Meltdown: A Global Warming in march. its a great documentary thats actually based on legitimate science and hasnt been reamed by everyone for being political propaganda and totally false

but id just like to reiterate no one here doesnt believe in global warming itself? like blaarg was saying. because thats been scientifically proven. the only argument is human beings involvement. greenhouse effects are measured

we've had the Hockey Stick graph debate on here in the past but i cant remember the statements of those who didnt believe it/didnt support it. when fluctuations in solar output, volcanic and oceanic disturbance, and other natural occurances that disrupt climate are laid onto the hockey stick with a line of human emission... its pretty shocking. i guess the common layperson doesnt know scientists can calculate solar fluctuations

but in the end, whether you believe humans are the cause or solar cycles, WHATS THE HARM? do you want to keep breathing polluted air and have more and more people with cancers? do you want to be tied to an ever increasing in price gas pump for the rest of your life and all the societal and world problems that causes? do you not want to save money by having an energy efficient home? do you just really enjoy pollution?

id love for the world to clean up

that would be fantastic...

but scaring people and telling them their car emission is going to cause a massive snow tornado glacial freeze acid flood won't help...

i don't know what it will take...

we have scientists with "scientific proof" that we're causing it....

we have scientists with "scientific proof" that we aren't and it's the earth doing its thing...

SO WHAT THE FLYING FUCK ARE WE TO THINK?

I see. So just because something is pushed by a bunch of left-wing anti-capitalist socialists, and the vast majority of scientifically illiterate people in the country buy it, it's right.

1. "vast majority of scientifically illiterate people" wrong. just because you dont agree doesnt make the vast majority of experts wrong
2. same thing about your POW. an idea pushed by right wing capitalist retards is more right than something pushed by left wing anti capitalist?

your logic is stupid

1.) The american public are _NOT_ experts on climate change. They're not really experts on anything as a whole. And before you go "oh well the scientists are" ... Perhaps they are, but I think it's become patently obvious as I've stated, this video has stated, "the scientists themselves" have stated, it's become a ***POLITICAL MOVEMENT****. There is little science left in it, although the ***POLITICIANS*** who are ***NOT SCIENTISTS*** claim so. Yeah, I really buy into that.

For crying out loud Cathryn, the founder of fucking GREANPEACE is interviewd on this video saying that the movement he helped start has been completley bastardized by left-wing political figures to promote their own agenda. That guy himself is questioning the "science" they're using to promote man-made global warming.

2.) Let's suppose for a minute this IS a piece of right-wing political propaghanda. Given how the public has bought into man-made global warming hook, line and sinker ... and taking into account that there is NO CONSENSUS that man-made Co2 emissions are causing the earth's temperature to rise to "catastrophic levels", are they just supposed to roll over and let the socialist agenda take over?

This goes beyond "global warming", it has to do with drumming up support for other shit based on fear, uncertainty, and dbout. They are pulling the same horse shit with this whole global warming thing that they bitch and piss and moan the Republicans are pulling with the "War on Terror" ...

I refuse to blindly support a political cause that is a vehicle for anti-capitalist political ambitions ...

I didn't realize that a video had to have Rush Limbaugh or Pat Buchannan to be propaganda.

I am however challenging her statement made previously that people who do nothing and sit around are wastes of space.

So how do you feel about the people you help who do nothing to help themselves?

typically these people are under circumstance, family of origins, medical issues etc that the average upper class person could not even imagine. even so, there are some people that are just "bad" i believe. but even these people deserve all the help/chances/opportunities there are. "help" can also be a prison, a reformed rehabilitation prison mind you. i know itll come up so ill clarify, im not talking about releasing pedos to neighbors with a hug saying "just try to do better", thats not helping. but for the majority of people, they are capable and willing to help themselves they just need to know how or be given access to opportunities.

these people arent wastes of space. middle and upper class typical americans are if they walk around with privileged money snatching attitudes who dont stop and think about or help their average american citizens. i believe this apathy, and better than you materialistic attitude is one of the major downfalls of americans. (i think america is worse in this than some other areas of the world but certainly they arent the only ones)

but like zach was maybe hinting at, i believe the percentage of people out there who choose to do nothing to help themselves is very very very low. research in the field backs me up in this belief

Ok, I can agree with most of that.

What about people who know that they can receive money without doing anything and continually do so? Basically freeloaders. They have access to birth control yet pop out 7 kids, then refuse to get a job to feed them. What about them?

And, why are there people who are given chances and do things to better themselves but fail? Are you suggesting that there are people out to get them?

Anybody who has 7 kids to get more welfare is a fucking idiot. I don't remember what the exact figures are, but it's not that much.

Of course there are always going to be freeloaders. But overall, people want to work. What you do for a living is an important part of a person's identity.

welfare mommas is a fear of white people propagated by the media and bad politicians. the welfare system is so shitty it doesnt even really allow for this. so that isnt even really a concern for me. it falls back into the first issue. yes there are some bad people, but they still need/deserve help because they arent just cast off and out of society. they affect all of us therefore we need to do what we can to help. its the same freeloading question. not as many exist as a lot of people think.

everyone fails. its a part of life. because someone fails once, twice, three times, again thats not a reason to just cast them off. i can only speak from a social services perspective because thats in the manner i think so, there are a million different ways to interact and help people. maybe one approach just isnt as successful and it takes a few times to really get to someone and maybe it takes a few times to find the right housing, grant, home, medical center etc. for someone.

as far as are there people out there with the intention to to "get them." no i dont think so necessarily. but i think the political and social climate we live in now can be argued as doing so.

oh alex just because we arent talking about sending minorities and immigrants to death camps doesnt mean this thread is now shit!

Stephan's making a valid point. I try to help my students, but so many of them just don't care. I almost bit my tongue off last week while trying to hold it from bitching out one of my prego students. She refuses to do the class project of finding a job, any job through any means necessary then telling the class a little about it. Why? "I don't need a job." "How will you take care of your baby?" "There's government programs that help me with that." Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Going to sleep so I can enjoy a wonderful day at school tomorrow...

Well, I'm personally going to hoard as much money as I can, while raping the poor, polluting the environment, and womanizing as many women as I can in life.

I just need to get a personality transplant for the latter.

more fun:
http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature+Monit...rticle10866.htm
QUOTE
Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on.

No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

A compiled list of all the sources can be seen here. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to wipe out nearly all the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year's time. For all four sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.

I wonder how long it will be before Al Gore jumps all over this as "his initiatives are succeeding" or something to that effect.

People should just take care of their environment regardless of what it is causing. Even if its causing cooling or warming, we are affecting it with the shit we do.

Cat, I'm tired about you saying that we all don't understand and you are such a saint. You could be helping your friend doing something worthwhile instead of stealing hubcaps, but no you post about how you give your life to help others. Its like people going to a protest so they feel better about themselves and are "saving" the world. And its about economic status, not race anymore its the latest clique in the road to social justice™

I read it exactly in context. he said "poor is the new black". and added "ironic how that doesn't change much". since he doesn't think it changes much, he is in fact implying that poor = black.

How can that be... I know way more white welfare moms than I do negroe welfare moms.

There's an awful lot of mexican welfare moms I've met, but surprisingly enough, very few black ones. Very few black ones indeed ...

Don't know about folks on welfare, but as far as WIC bitches are concerned, I usually see Mexican ones. They piss me off because it takes like FIFTY TIMES AS LONG for them in the grocery line just to buy a gallon of milk and some orange juice concentrate.

No, they've got paperwork that has to be filled out by the store clerks and it takes forever and a day. You're thinking of the Lone Star Card, which is for the food stamps program.

Weather Channel founder wants to sue Al Gore:
http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2...0303175301.aspx
QUOTE
Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.

“[I] have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the media stand to testify, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”
