So, I've been wanting to get one for a while.....was looking at Best Buy's ad, and they have a 250 GB portable for $139 or a 320 GB regular one for $129. They're both by Western Digital....are they any good of a brand?

I kinda prefer the portable one, because I dont need THAT much memory, and my Macbook has 160 GB. I just wanted one for occassional backup purposes.

Also, any other good specials?

EDIT: and just to piss off Impala....I want a GAY ONE!! Something in pretty colors!! laugh.gif

That's a good brand, I have a Seagate and I've had no problems with it. Been using it for like 4-5 years. Just use it to store media.

Western Digital is generally a good, solid brand. Seagate, like TTULow mentioned, is also good. I've had good luck with Maxtor in the past, but I don't know how they fare now.

If you have Leopard, just spend the money and get the Time Capsule thing from Apple. You can use it as a mixed "selective" backup and a complete backup solution.

What I mean by that is, you can have your repository of photos on it while backing up your machine's state. It can also power iTunes from the network.

$300 = 500GB and it's a wireless router / print server.

But that's the thing...I already have an Airport Extreme.

So I would have to go and sell that and try to get $150 for it, and then pay the other half for the 500 GB HD feature of the Time Capsule?

And when is TC coming out anyway?

As far as I know it's in stores today. And remember, you can back up your iPhone to this thing as well (wirelessly).

Oh, if you have a Airport Extreme (one of the newer ones), you can plug in an external drive to it and get basic backup functions readily.

WD is a good brand. Same with Seagate. I have had success with Maxtor as well, but it's loud!
