http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/12/18/h...d-_n_77315.html (sorry couldn't find a good article)

The article only points out that Huckabee says "Christmas is about Jesus Christ" when in fact he continues to say "... and family and friends". It's a Merry Christmas ad.

Now people are up in arms about the supposed "cross" (which turns out is a bookshelf). First, who cares? It's Christmas, last time I checked, Christmas was supposed to be about Christ.

Second, if he has a cross does it matter? Can't he say whatever he wants? If people don't like it, don't vote for him.

I'm not for Huckabee because I think his politics on certain issues are questionable but this is insane. I guess if he had a Christmas ad with a 18 yr. old girl elf sitting on his lap while he did tequila shots it'd be ok.

So don't vote for him. He's not forcing you to vote for him.

If a Wiccan came on with a giant pentagram behind him, would you care?

It is pretty ridiculous that people are going nuts about this ad. Who cares? The man is an avowed Christian and he's not shy about it. I won't vote for him, but he's just pandering to his core demographic. *shrugs*

I'd be surprised and then suspicious. A lot of Wiccans are fluffy bunny retards.

i don't plan on it.

it's just funny to me that some of the christian candidates try to make sure everyone know that they are christian.

it's very important that i'm christian cause that's what makes me a good person.
if i wasn't a christian i would be a bad bad person. because that's what people who aren't christians are.

doesn't bother me. nothing new. just funny.

The democratic candidates do the same thing so I assume you're throwing them into your generalization.

Why would it be funny to you that a Republican presidential candidate would discuss their religion when the vast majority of their target voters are religious? It would seem to make sense to me. Just like how the democrat candidates discuss their gay tolerance.

because it's so in your face that it's hilarious. even rudy made fun of him (i think?)

i haven't seen the ad from hillary that says "today is gay pride day.... today we love gays. gays are the reason for the season."

i'm not dissing him for doing it. if that's his audience, fine, do what it takes. i'm not, so i can think it's funny.

i think it's kinda like the magnets on the back of the cars. "look at me, i'm a good person."

Seconded.

I also hate those "Support our Troops" ribbon magnets. (as does every vet I know)
People used those as beacons to say "HEY I've got 6 magnets I'm more patriotic than you AMMMMMMMMMUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRIIIICAAAAA!"

I would put a support our troops sticker on the back of my truck, not because Im patriotic but because I have friends and family over there. The troops really do need our support. Also, if I were religious, a fish on the back of my truck (while very cliche, yes) wouldnt be like a HEY LOOK AT HOW RELIGIOUS AND GOOD I AM... it would be a "I love God" thing. I dont know. I think it's an unfair generalization.

Most Republicans support viewpoints based in religious beliefs - against gay marriage, pro life, yada yada yada

Most politicians believe in god. There are still enough idiots in this country that if someone who didn't believe in god ran for office, they probably wouldn't get elected

arent those yellow magnets given for a donation? Plus, it's telling other people to go out there and donate.

I dont have either of those things on my truck, but I do have a sticker that says Texas Tech Alumni on it. Is that rubbing it in stupid people's faces?

I think its awful that you guys are trying to make something good into something bad. Are people not allowed to express their viewpoints on their own vehicles anymore? I dont support certain ideals but I dont get all butt hurt when I see a "NRA: loosen gun laws" sticker on the back of someone's vehicle. I dont think to myself...wow.. what a self righteous prick. those magnets pay to keep the factory going first and foremost. if i remember correctly, only about .10 to a dollar went to the troops. and it's a $10 fucking magnet.

the message it portrays to me is to steal them. i once had over 600 of them stuck to my fridge. we ran outta room.

and yes, having a texas tech alumni sticker is saying "look at me, i'm special"

Well, $1 donation is better than $0 donation, but Im pretty sure its more than just a dollar.

I think thats pretty assholish to steal someone's sticker, but whatever. If it makes you feel better about the whole issue.

No, its called school pride. It means that I spent a shit ton of money on a degree and Im going to put a $3 sticker on my vehicle because Im proud that I finished and that I made the investment.

According to the American Religious Survey in 01, 81% of the entire country is Christian, 4% are some other religion, and 15% are no religion at all. That alone should be plenty.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_united_states

Here's a party breakdown in a post 2006 election poll:

So the more the person goes to church, the more likely they'll vote Republican. With the total amount of votes skewing slightly Democrat, obviously because they won.

i don't feel the need to advertise that i belong to a certain group. i know who i am, and i don't need other peoples validation of that fact.

So just because you don't feel the need for those reasons, you automatically assume those that do put stickers on their vehicles are doing so for those reasons? Is it not simply that someone puts the shit on their car because that's what they like?

Do you wear t-shirts with your favorite bands on them?

But he does use his status as an OBGYN to backup his feelings on abortion.

nope.

btw, i feel the same way towards anyone who feels the need for group affiliation.

people wearing cowboys jerseys, or any other football team you want to fill in, black guys who will only wear Jordans or FuBu, dumb cunts obsessing over Prada bags, etc.

it's peoples natural tribe/gang mentality, where they HAVE to belong to something that irks me

if you want to be a christian, do so. humility is one of the key lessons of the bible, so you shouldn't have to constantly remind others of your ideals, because then it becomes a fashion statement no better than a prada bag

That's what I'm getting at though. Why does my desire to wear an Astros t-shirt make you feel like I have to be part of a group? I wear the shirt because I like the Astros, not to try to make some fucking statement. I'm not trying to affiliate myself with some damn group.

ok. would you wear that astros shirt if the writing was only on the inside, where no one could see?

even though the cost of a plain t-shirt is $5, and the astros shirt, that looks EXACTLY the same cost $40?

because it's so in your face that it's hilarious. even rudy made fun of him (i think?)

i haven't seen the ad from hillary that says "today is gay pride day.... today we love gays. gays are the reason for the season."

i'm not dissing him for doing it. if that's his audience, fine, do what it takes. i'm not, so i can think it's funny.

i think it's kinda like the magnets on the back of the cars. "look at me, i'm a good person."

actually hillary is touting the christian thing more than everyone else. that's what i've been told at least. i haven't kept up with her.

well kind of.

he doesn't say "well I've delivered so many babies that I believe life is precious, yadda yadda yadda..."
it's more of a "well if I hurt a fetus I could be sued as the doctor for hindering life, so why is the abortion debate any different?"

it really annoys me when you say this. I would like to know where you get this statistic from.... that most Republicans are religious. Many people who vote republican are fiscally conservative and it has nothing to do with a moral stance.

If that is true and the majority of republican's are republican's because they are fiscally conservative, then Ron Paul would be the majority in the polls....

why is this thread about finding horribly ugly cheap astros gear?

i still like the argument that an ordained southern baptist minister who has admitted that his faith is the drive behind everything he does would not use that faith as a basis or moral standpoint when acting as president

Now you're completely off the wall here. This isn't about price. I can go find a "plain" t-shirt that costs $200. It's absolutely stupid to think that every branded item in existence somehow means that the owner has some terrible emotional problem and needs to feel "affiliated" to that group. Pride is a concept you don't seem to understand. I'm sure you take pride in something, just not necessarily the same things others do.

kevin and i were talking about this at dinner actually. pride is one of the 7 deadly sins but i dont think its something to be ashamed of unless that pride becomes aggressive or boastful.

but the stickers, magnets, and behavior like his is "in you face" which no one likes. if i put "be a part of humanity, drive hybrid" on my prius - thatd be in your face.

by the way that bumper sticker is copyrighted as of right now

what i'm trying to say is, would you wear that Astros shirt that you paid way more money for if you knew that no one at all would know you were wearing it? people pay outrageous prices for items because they are namebrand. do you think every woman in the world has the same taste in purse? hardly. but they get the designer label because they can feel confident that people looking at her would be impressed by her choice.

and i am very prideful. i've faced obstacles and overcome them, and i have my share of success. that DOES NOT mean i feel it necessary to brag every time i get a gold sticker.

and the point is, people want to fit in to something. they want to belong to something bigger than themselves. my problem lies in people taking credit for being apart of a group without understanding what the hell they want to be a part of. when those damn WWJD bracelets were popular, i could count only a fist full of people who could even recite the 10 commandments. the BASE LAWS OF CHRISTIANITY, and these fuckers couldn't even get that right, but they are sure gonna advertise they are christians.

in this world, individuality seems to be the true sin. everyone must conform, there is way too many sheep in this world. just be happy in who you are without the need to try impressing total strangers who don't give a rat-fuck about you.

Yes, and I have. But if I'm lazin around the house I'll put on the sleeveless ratty Astros shirt... whereas if I was going out to eat or to work I might wear the Astros polo laugh.gif. And you don't pay "way" more for shirts with team logos on them.

I know what you're saying and I'm not disagreeing that it happens. There are trends, and fads, etc. I just think you're taking it a little to the extreme to assume that anyone with a fish or a double-t on their car or t-shirt needs your validation or is trying to say they're better than you. It makes you look really insecure if these things threaten you so badly.

There is some truth to this, but IMHO it's to the point where those trying to be so incredibly different are essentially just a different species of sheep. I see a lot of people who declare themselves non-conformists all following the same pattern... they wear clothes & tattoo/pierce their body in the same way that other non-conformists do, so guess what that makes them? Conformists smile.gif. The bottom line is there's not much you can do to be a completely different individual when there's 8 billion people on the planet. Of course we are all different in some way, but I'd venture to say it's near impossible to truly be a non-conformist in appearance.
