China produces something like 90% of the products we carry in our stores.

The U.S. Dollar is a piece of crap.

Hugo Chavez is attempting to establish a dictatorship in Venezuela

Putin is re-establishing the imperialistic fear and indoctrination of old Mother Russia

The Middle East is destabilizing.

There are rumors of doing away with NAFTA and forming the "North American Union" and creating a standardized currency like the Euro called the "Amero". This would mean complete and total free trade between Canada and Mexico as well as open borders.

Africa is a massive viral risk riddled with religious wars and extreme poverty.

Yep. We're fucked.

well, either almost every other major currency is beginning to do worse than ours, or we're gaining strength on their still-strong economies.

vs. US dollar, in november:

canadaian dol = down 9c
euro = stagnant
peso = down $.0015
pound = down 6c
yen = up $.0002
yuan = up $.0007

i love how headlines read, everyday, that the dollar is hitting new lows... but no follow up (except for thursday) when the market kicks back up. we actually did well in the 3q. gdp still grew at something like 4.5-4.8%, and 1.5% of it was due to increased american exports.

Well said. The 3Q GDP numbers have somewhat been ignored by major news media...

Once the Brits figure out that it's cheaper to buy things here, I'm sure they'll be flooding in.

I thought NAFTA was evidence that we were moving towards a North American Union. I remember explicitly Ron Paul saying during the debate that we should get rid of NAFTA in order to focus more on American sovereignty (rather than leading towards a North American Union...)

Yeah. There's a lot of economists who would argue that having a weak dollar is a good thing.

i didn't touch on that because Africa has been the source for some of the more deadly diseases...

i'm hinting more towards another black plague scenario where a majority of the population dies off and the survivors build an immunity....maybe it's nature's way of resetting itself

alex - the creator of this thread is most definitely not a democrat. so do all republicans think the state of america is going to kill off society as we know it?

dont listen to all of us on the boards and think you can generalize to democrats as a whole. imo most do not think that way (concerning your original question)

I think he was pandering and I don't like it. But it wasn't like what he said was offensive to the audience. Had he pulled a Hillary and started quoted James Cleveland in a derogatory tone (when she was at the church), he would have been crapped all over.

Were you upset she pandered to that church? Or are you more upset that they didn't care?

huckabee is a religious nut and he totally believed what he was saying in that speech. he talks like that all the time not just to jesus people

im not even aware of the hillary thing. james cleveland the reverend? sounds like thatd be a fitting person to quote in a church. tone of voice is a subjective thing that can be misinterpreted. saying you believe god is helping you win elections, that hes on your side is a totally different ballpark

I think it's fine to say things along the lines of "I thank God for my success".

Huckabee is a minister and was speaking at a Baptist university, why can't he say what he said?

What Hillary did was pander to southern African American voters. http://lashawnbarber.com/archives/2007/03/...t-black-church/

Completely agree. Romney said he wouldn't do a religious speech, now what does he do, a religious speech.

Well, as long as his uberness doesn't affect his decisions (which he said he won't), then I don't have a problem with it.

I am leaning more and more towards Ron Paul though.

But your basing "drive" and "influence" on semantics. A person who does things usually does them from moral principal and/or beliefs. If Huckabee believes something then he is going to live that life. He believes that Roe-v-Wade should be overturned. Nowhere does he say he'll enact legislation to do such a thing and nor does he have the ability to overturn it.

What's wrong with him believing that women are pushed into poverty? I guess it offends you? Then don't vote for the guy. But saying the world is ending because of him can be said about some aspect of all of the candidates.

I mean, are you willing to say then that Romney's Mormonism will drive every decision he makes and he'll be a shill to the Mormon church?

America is finally perfect

Nevermind the fact that our personal privacy is wrecked, gas prices are over $3, the economy sucks, and we're fighting a war even I think is pretty pointless

We finally indicted Public Enemy #1 after four long years and God knows how many tax dollars. Barry Bonds is going to trial for....I'm not even sure, really. Lying about taking some pills to help him excel in a kid's game, or something.

Well perhaps it is opinion based.

A: Third world countries with people starving, kids carrying AK-47s, terrorism rampant, road side bombs killing people, communist countries oppressing people.

B: USA where people average over $40,000/yr, 2 cars/household, people sit around watching football in HD and drinkin beer on the weekends. People driving fancy cars and travelling all over.

The democrat/liberal/lefty/republican-hater/hippie/treehugger will tell you that A & B are equally bad.

The conservatives will tell you B rocks and A needs to be wiped off the map.

Which one is "correct" I suppose is subjective.

I remember when I used to actually post long, well-thought-out replies in NPR. Then people like you, CelebrityGooner (he disappeared long ago), and others came upon this forum with blind, "like it or giiiiiiit out!" ignorance.

Therefore, I said FUCK IT to even wasting my time on this forum with anything meaningful.

How is it ignorance to say like it or get out? IMHO it's pretty stupid to bitch about where you live all the damn time, and still live there. Or does a constantly dismal view on everything that goes on around you give you some sort of sick joy?

Quick taking everything so personally. I'm talking in general about the Democratic party and the liberal population. In general they do take a very negative stance on every issue. They can find something wrong with anything.

I've never met a Democrat or Liberal that has flat out said "I hate America" nor even come close. Those I've met may have issues with certain policies, but they love this country all and all.

I've met those pseudo modern Communists that have said that, but I forgot you think anything not flag-waving Republican is Communist and anti-America.

So Conservatives and/or Republicans don't bitch and complain about anything? Do you honestly believe that?

I really do think you have a problem with any form of verbal dissent, namely when it involves words that go against your views. But you border on the mentality of hating the right to verbally dissent such things.
Scary.

I didn't say liberals hate America. I said they tend to think very negatively of our country. (think negatively = hate?)

I don't think "not flag-waving Republican" is Communist. (not patriotic = communist?)

I didn't say conservatives don't bitch or complain. (think less negatively = never bitches?)

Don't be scared, I fully observe the rights of liberals to be whiny bitches. As well as my right to change the channel. (annoyed at comments = against free speech?)

It's funny how you take the really very "gray" things I say and immediately make them black & white (see parens above). Maybe you're just exaggerating but I honestly either think A) you just don't really understand what I'm saying or B) just don't want to admit that I'm right that liberals do think much more negatively of our country than conservatives.

i cant admit that because i dont believe that to be remotely close to the truth. verbal dissent, like zach said, does not imply hatred (or trying to be negative). you can disagree with just about 100% of policies and still love the country. its the idea of loving it so much you want to see it work in the way you see it working the best.
but neither party hates 100% of whats going on, thats just silly

you need to seperate "thinking negatively of our country" and just thinking negatively about some of the people in charge and some of the things that are going on

ie. Bush is not america. you can hate him and think negatively of him and that doesnt mean you think negatively of america

I'll take option C: You don't understand what YOU are saying and seem to feel that only you, in all your false-patriotic glory, can be right.

Liberals don't think negatively about the country...I'd say many think negatively about the policies that are implemented by a very neoConservative administration. (speak out about policies = speak negatively about the United States?)

Well of course the liberals hate who's in charge. But that's not what I'm talking about. When I turn on the liberal news and see report after report after report about how our country is going down the shitter, It's not about policies. When I see liberals screaming their lungs out about how bad the war is going, and then hear from my brother-in-law and many other troops how well things are going, it doesn't add up. When I see liberal after liberal candidate tell me how bad our healthcare system is, and yet people are flocking to the United States for healthcare, it's doesn't really make much sense. When liberals keep telling me how bad the air is, and then I see other top countries in the world having to wear masks it doesn't really add up. Then liberals tell me how bad the economy is and how it's going to go down the shitter soon because of __________, but then oh yeah it doesn't. I don't see how people could live like that honestly. I mean, hell, read the rest of the thread. The OP thought the dollar is in the shitter and going down, no doubt bc of what he sees on the news or hears from other liberals (who probably heard it from the news). Then you have someone who actually looked it up and wow isnt that neat, it's not doin all that bad.

So is the country/world really going down the shitter? Or are all the liberals just saying it is because they don't like who's in charge? (in turn making the blind liberal herd actually believe this shit).

i see conservatives hating on and screaming about illegal immigrants and gays. so then why are they being so negative. do they hate americans and are racists?

i dont think many people are flocking to america for healthcare. most americans cant afford healthcare here. in most countries its practically free. if you want highly specialized care and have money, you come to america. thats not most people

in your mind america is perfect, not in many other peoples. even republicans. not everyone is going to blindly love everything thats going on because its 'merica

I dont know what country you live in, Impala, but its not the US. Im neither Republican nor Liberal, but I see things that obviously you don't see.

1) Troops that I have talked to come home saying "It sucks risking for life and not being told why you are there risking it." I was neither for or against going to Iraq in the first place, and I agree that Sadam was an imminent threat; but the execution was bad timing. Who are these troops you talk to? The ones I talk to don't say anything good about being over there.

2) Our healthcare system is great, but it is also complete and utter shit. Doctors in the US can do amazing things to save people's lives or give people with deformities a life they thought they would never have...it all comes at a cost though. If a person doesn't have insurane in this country, they are fucked. I don't have insurance because I'm in school and I'm not covered by my parents. I went to the ER over the summer for kidney stones, and I left there with a $7,000 bill for no more than 2.5 hours there. What's saving someone's life (obviously NOT talking about my little ER visit) if you are just going to leave them in debt for the rest of it? That, sir, is shit.

As for air quality, I don't really care... because I have no evidence to say either way. I haven't read or heard anything convincing enough from either side.

The economy: meh, I see the effects of issues like the mortgage crisis. I think our economy will recover just as it eventually did after 9/11. Gas prices + mortgage crisis = weaker economy (not weak...just weaker than what it was/could be if those situations were not occurring)

Democrats continue to make issues out of nothing. Republicans continue to make issues out of issues.

Realize that our political system is fucked and what happens in our government REALLY DOES AFFECT THE REST OF THE WORLD.

So therefore....WORLD = FUCKED

i see conservatives hating on and screaming about illegal immigrants and gays. so then why are they being so negative. do they hate americans and are racists?

I bolded the important word there for ya, since you did actually say it. And yes you're right conservatives tend to think negatively towards gays. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that most of them feel it's morally wrong. But again, you're not addressing what I said. I said liberals tend to think very negatively of everything that goes on in this country. You guys still have not denied this and seem to only come back with "well conservatives blah blah blah". Bottom line: liberals are insanely more negative about issues than conservatives.

QUOTE (Testm0nkey @ Dec 9 2007, 11:11 PM) *
i dont think many people are flocking to america for healthcare.

Then you would be wrong. People come here from their socialist healthcare systems because they can't choose their doctor, end up with a shitty govt paid doctor, or will have to wait six months to get a wart removed.

QUOTE (Testm0nkey @ Dec 9 2007, 11:11 PM) *
most americans cant afford healthcare here.

Completely taken out of your ass. You really mean to tell me that 51%+ of americans can't afford healthcare. BS.

QUOTE (Testm0nkey @ Dec 9 2007, 11:11 PM) *
in most countries its practically free.

Yeah, if you consider 50% income taxes "practically free". But then again you libs do sway a little socialist so I guess you would think about it that way.

QUOTE (Testm0nkey @ Dec 9 2007, 11:11 PM) *
if you want highly specialized care and have money, you come to america. thats not most people

Again taken completely out of your ass. Healthcare that's not highly specialized isn't expensive in the first place.

QUOTE (Testm0nkey @ Dec 9 2007, 11:11 PM) *
in your mind america is perfect, not in many other peoples. even republicans. not everyone is going to blindly love everything thats going on because its 'merica

There yall go again taking the gray and making it black. I never said we're perfect. All I'm sayin is things aren't as bad as the liberals would have us believe.

I didn't say they enjoyed being there. I don't think anyone does. But when progress is being made you suddenly don't hear about Iraq on the news. Hell look at this forum, someone posted an English teaching job over there. Are they going there to bomb little kids or teach english? People I've talked to include a couple of cousins, brother in law, and two old high school buddies.

QUOTE (Jessica @ Dec 9 2007, 11:24 PM) *
2) Our healthcare system is great, but it is also complete and utter shit.

Sorry didn't really feel much like reading anything after this sentence. See reply to cat for healthcare.

QUOTE (Jessica @ Dec 9 2007, 11:24 PM) *

Well see there ya go, you're thinking positively wink.gif

maybe im not so glad impala is back! jk

maybe no one is answering your question because we cannot follow your logic and all you do is say "you are pulling that out of your ass". we could say the same things about what you say.

# Nearly 82 million people – about one-third of the population below the age of 65 spent a portion of either 2002 or 2003 without health coverage (3).

and those numbers are rising and have been rising since 2002

and so you admitted conservatives think very negatively about a lot of issues. for example, homosexuals.
i as a democrat thinking very negatively about invasions of privacy but i dont think very negatively at all about education reform. whats your source for "all democrats think negatively about everything"

Of course there will be others, but the general negativity still belongs to the liberals. It's not conservatives jumping in and taking the scoreboard down at little johnny's soccer game. They think everyone is oppressed except the white male, when it's really the other way around.

What invasion of privacy? Who invades your privacy? This is what I'm talking about. You seem to think there's some invasion of privacy problem... why?

Because your depictions of liberal beliefs simply isn't true.
