My girlfriend's car was broken into this morning. They took the CD player, some CDs and her insurance card.
Any idea what they would want with the insurance card? As far as I know it does not contain any sensitive information. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Less of a chance they'll get caught. No insurance card = lower chance of filing insurance claim = less chance of an investigation = less chance of getting arrested. I'm being sarcastic, but car theives aren't the brightest people in the world. They did, after all, try to break into my locked truck using a flathead screwdriver to pry the door open. Dipshits.
They also have her address now, which is BAD. You break into a car with several thousand bucks worth of stuff in it, and it only goes to think that where they live might have equally valuable stuff. And now they got your address. This might actually be the most logical explanation -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

Well, I am not sure if the address on the card was her Houston address or if it was her parent's address in Austin (she's still on their insurance).
She doesn't drive a super nice car ('94 Honda Accord) but I don't like the fact that they have her address (if it's the Houston one). -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I thought they did it just to be a jackass. My family's cars have been broken into numerous times and they steal the insurance card most of the time.

99% chance it's the Austin address then Hopefully. She's just a little freaked out by the whole thing since she lived in the ghetto in Austin and never had any problems at all. Then she moves to an ass of a town and is broken into 2 months later. God I hate this city. The HPD had the nerve to tell her that they would "call her back" That's fantastic. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

my parents got the insurance card stolen. Some people tried to use it as part of a scam. I would just inform the insurance company, and get her a ccl.

Yeah, I went and looked more at the car just a minute ago.
When he popped the locks it appeared he popped the window of the tracks but I found out it just popped out of the plastic sealant that surrounds it, so no biggie. I did find out why he took the insurance card. The card was in inside of the center console. For him to steal the CD player he had to take the entire console, hence him taking the card. I didn't realize this at first. We are going to put a temporary freeze on her credit and inform the insurance company. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Dipshits. how does not having your insurance card equate to not filing a claim (or less likely)? That's ridiculous. I dont know anyone who wouldnt file a claim simply because their insurance card was stolen. Most people have the paperwork to their insurance at home...or they have online access to file a claim.

Yeah, I'm aware but they have people who do just this. Hell, a Houston Constable lives next door to her. They took her info over the phone and gave her a case number. If anything they should file a timely report to help track crime. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

keep in mind though that there's a thing going around where illegal aliens are now stealing people's identities to take money, etc.
