Rules? Options

I thought it would be appropriate to split this topic off from the rest of the "adapting the boards" thread. The current rules are as follows:

General forum rules - these rules apply across ALL forums on Techsans.net. Additional rules may apply for particular forums, so see those rules threads as applicable.

1. Love, Relationships & Adult Related (LRAR) is generally a Not Safe For Work (NSFW) forum. Browse at your own risk.

2. For other forums, link NSFW pics rather than using the IMG tags and mark them with (NSFW) or something similar. If an entire thread is generally NSFW, say so in the title. These guidelines are recommended for LRAR as well, but not required.

3. If you are discussing a news article (whether it be in NPR, Entertainment, or any other forum), post a link to the article in question (preferably a credible one if in NPR).

4. Posting the full text of an article is optional, but if posted please place it in a quote block to distinquish it from your commentary.

5. Don't ask someone else to summarize an article or ask for "Cliff Notes". If you want to know what it says, read it!

6. Spamming is fine to a reasonable extent and is most tolerated in the Off Topic forum. Spamming in the asdf thread is absolutely ok.

7. Trolling and flame wars are looked down upon, so keep such things in check.

8. No specific rules against double or triple posting, etc., but see #6 about spam above.

I'm of the opinion that all of the mods (myself included) simply need to enforce these rules better, but I know some people were in favor of adapting them a bit. What does everyone else think?

when its clear someones being a jerk or personally provoking for the sake of provoking i think their post should be edited.

but this is exactly the problem before, what's clear to one person is not to another.

i think the personal attacking/provoking/whatever isn't that big of a deal. at least it doesn't seem as bad as it used to be. and like someone said in the other thread, it just makes the attacker look like a loser, so why not let em?

personal attacks like "haha your family is poor and you have a terminally ill sister LOL, freak" are clearly personal attacks and cant have anything to do with anything

that shouldnt be allowed to even remain in a post
and its unfair to the person on the receiving end because i sure as hell dont blame them for trying to defend themself. than that causes a whole shit storm. cut it before it starts

then thatll cause people, whose sole reason for being on the boards is to try to personally provoke everyone, leave. because they arent a contributing member anyway

i don't remember anyone saying that spamming and double posting are ok... i think it's stupid and unnecessary. just for people who want their post count to go up, which is ghey.

Pretty much agree with everything you said.

Personal attacks are ridiculous. If you want to call someone out for something they said, fine. Don't bring their brother/cousin/grandma in to it. Fuckiing dumb and immature.

but then you open it up to the person being attacked defending themself. i dont blame them for that, its really hard not to. and if you ask the mods to do something about it they dont do anything.

Ya know, not that I really disagree with the enforcement being a problem thing, but I don't recall ever seeing you report a post...

If a post is really bothering you, please report it to us.

Best thing to do is not to PM any individual mod but to use the "report post" link. That gets it to every user who has mod powers over that thread.
