I've had this thing since 2002, D-Link put an EOL notice on it in 2004, and I think it finally died on me. Not able to get any wireless signal to my laptop, but I'm able to pick up neighboring networks. Anyone know of a way of testing if it's broadcasting? Like can I wrap a bunch of wire around the antenna and hook it up to a multimeter and get some kind of response? Doesn't have to be tested through the computer. I'd like to be sure it really doesn't work before I go and buy a new wireless router.

Open to suggestions on possible configurations on the router, too. So far I've tried changing SSID, channel, encryption key, and whether the SSID is broadcast or not. Gonna try turning encryption off now.

try running netstumbler and see if the mac is present?

If it's made in 2002, you may be due for an upgrade anyways.

Linksys WRT54G, WRT54GS, and WRT54GL are all highly reccommended, and don't cost all that much.

Or you can buy an el cheapo one. Wireless routers are pretty cheap nowadays, and WAPs are even cheaper.

I figured out it was the wireless portion of the router that went fubar on me. I'm too cheap to buy a new one, so I'm just running a really long cord to my laptop whenever I want to use it.

bring a sack lunch to work for a week. that's ~$20. enough to buy a supercheapo WAP, especially if woot happens to have one soon.

LOL. Eating a sack lunch for a week would probably raise my expenses rather than lower them.
