QUOTE KEWASKUM, Wis. - Police Chief Richard Knoebel says he wasn’t about to take the easy way out when he accidentally drove past a stopped school bus with its emergency lights flashing.
For violating traffic laws, Knoebel wrote himself a ticket for $235, docked himself four points on his driving record and paid the fine the next day. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! that is admirable
-------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

I think this guy is an idiot. Everyone makes mistakes every once in a while- not seeing a stop sign, not realizing its a school zone, etc. While, I think he needs to pay attention to the road, I dont think he should write himself a damn ticket. I bet this cop never lets anyone by with just a warning.

I didnt read the article. All I read was that he ran the little stop sign that the bus throws out.... which if you arent staring at the damn thing could happen very easily. |

a bus stopped with its lights flashing means its pulled over to let kids out. thusly passing it is side swiping the bus which is illegal

a bus stopped with its lights flashing means its pulled over to let kids out. thusly passing it is side swiping the bus which is illegal 1) no shit its illegal 2) I have never heard that term before 3) I am willing to bet that the bus was in the process of putting the stop sign out and he ran it as it was coming out. If thats the case, maybe he had his eyes in other places....like I dont know ...scanning the back of the bus for kids to make sure he wouldnt hit anyone. Either way, I think this was just him trying to get attention. |

I'm pretty sure "side-swiping" is literally scraping the side of another car with your own in a quick manner, like a cat swipes its claws at shit.

honest only if it wasn't done for publicity reasons. i am a little hesitant to trust that kind of fanaticism or maybe it was done to avoid publicity. if there was a stopped bus with kids getting on/off, there were probably parents watching. i bet he did it because he thought some crazy soccer mom was going to report him, which happens more often than you would think. |

anyone who thinks this is a publicity stunt is a dipshit.
it's a town of 3,000 people; everything is public. the only reason anyone found out about this is because court records are public and some bottom-feeder journalist stumbled upon it while searching for anything newsworthy in kewaskum, wisconsin. he clearly didn't want anyone to know about it. this happened in september and there was no news for five months. BUT I BET HE IS JUST TRYING TO GET ON JAY LENO AND GOOD MORNING AMERICA |

BUT I BET HE IS JUST TRYING TO GET ON JAY LENO AND GOOD MORNING AMERICA makes a bit of sense, while part of me thinks there are't many soccer moms out there with the brains to know where to find the police cars number, it is a possibility one of them could have stopped gawking like an idiot and actually taken notice. if the officer thought himself in danger of being reported, writing himself a ticket is definately preferable to being fired. at least by taking his own punishment into his own hands, he might have been able to avoid more serious reprecussions from the Chief. for publicity, or for security it doesn't matter, it's a win win situation as long as he doesn't mind parting with a bit of cash. -------------------- |

I bet this cop never lets anyone by with just a warning. I doubt that...most cops write warnings because they don't feelt he infraction warrants the mountain of paperwork they have to file. I think he did it because he is honest...perhaps kept 'honest' by this video-happy society we live in. If footage of a cop blowing past a stopped school bus hit the air and he HADN'T fessed up to it (written himself a ticket), that dude's career would be over. Plus he's the chief. Leadership by example. I think he's GTG. |

He kept it hush hush for a while. I'd agree with Cupcake and think he was just being honest, but there is a slight chance he did it to cover his ass. There has to be at least 1 good cop though.

it is publicity... earlier you said it was a stunt. actually i called it a "publicity/look-at-me stunt" he gave himself a ticket for the sole purpose of drawing attention to himself (a publicity stunt)? or to avoid it (being honest and keeping things quiet)? he didn't blab to reporters, he was discovered after a several-month hiatus in the court system. if you'd stop throwing around your calling people dipshits and read the article and think about it for more than five seconds, maybe it'd make more sense to you. i don't know what courts you have ever been to, but i sure as hell haven't ever seen one that makes traffic fine information publicly available, or tiny shit town newspapers who rummage through traffic tickets looking for a big story. you really are a dipshit, though, but this is just one of many reasons. yeah... mmk... pat yourself on the back for that one Who really cares whether it was a publicity stunt or not? i'd imagine people are trying to figure out why the hell a cop would write himself a ticket and how the hell it would get into the news |

I think it's just silly. *I* wouldn't have given myself a ticket, but I'd also never want to be a cop. *shrugs*
