jesus christ...that girl should be tranquilized. I hope that really was faked although it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility. For my sister's wedding i let the stylist cut two, thin bangs on the sides so that it could be just the way she wanted it, but I didn't really care. The marriage is just a ceremony...there's no need to freak out like that...

Of course my sister took 9 hours at the bridal shop trying to decide between two dresses...there were many tears involved.

Basically guys choose a girl who is confident, level-headed. There are signs that a girl is crazy; like if she can go shopping for more than 6 hours and end up not buying anything....beware.

Weddings are symbolic ceremonies to me. Taking this into account, there is no reason to spend thousands of dollars on ONE day. It is better to elope or have a small unique cost effective ceremony. Also, it is key to have a reception with lots of food, music, and booze.

I concur. I really enjoyed my mom & step-father's wedding... had it at the Texas Renaissance Festival, about a dozen people there total (most of whom were in the wedding party), it was raining but all that meant was that the kids got hot chocolate and the adults got hot mulled wine at the reception. Actually, I probably got mulled wine too, 'cause my folks are cool like that. happy.gif

Couple of thoughts:

1) I agree with Gonzo. I would spend more money on the reception than the ceremony. A big fancy wedding would scare the crap out of me. Too much pressure for everything to go perfect.

2) I love how everyone is posting from each other's screen names (no offense to Chuck or Jenna) and nothing is being said, but when Will and I did it everyone bitched like little school girls.

3) Remember that thread where Melanie and I think Amy were all talking about expensive rocks and shit for their ring. That thread made me laugh. Thats just ridiculous. Its more important to me to be with the one I love and happy (which lets face it, financial stability definitely harbors happiness...its not the only thing, but it definitely helps) than have my guy go 10k into debt buying me something that I will probably lose before our 5th anniversary.

guys still marry them because their really physically attractive usually and they think that having a hot wife is worth all of the obnoxiousness....that or they're really desperate for poon. I think we need a guy's opinion on this one, because I'm not really certain I'm just speculating.

usually a guy will buy the biggest ring he can because women bitch and brag, and make the cost of the ring such a big deal that a guy feels like less of a man if he DOESN"T go in debt. it's mind-fuck-conditioning, and besides, starting a new life together, i would think that a guy would want to put his best efforts forward, and not start things off by feeling that he didn't give his new bride the best she deserved or the best he could offer.

besides, the second a fight happens, you know the bitch is gonna be the first one to bring up how "poor and stingy" he is.

so true...too bad a majority of women are like that...

I personally want that money (and that money that would have been spent on a big wedding) to go into a home....I just want a simple band, if that...If i got something that put him in debt, id actually be upset...yeah im odd.

that's how most women on these boards are but that's not how most women are. I know a girl who got married to a guy she had intended to break up with just because he got her an eight carat diamond in a platinum setting.

The future mrs. spivey will not be receiving a 10k ring or a huge ass elaborate wedding. If she does not like that, I probably would not be marrying her in the first place.

there was a girl in my french class who was complaining to our small group that her fiance wouldn't have enough money to buy the ring she wanted because he was paying for his grandmother's nursing home care..she actually said: "I wish she would just die already...she's old anyway." I told the girl that she was a bitch and tried to avoid being grouped with her again.

I HATE FREUD

I don't hate him, but I think he was full of shit.

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? Freud tried to have conviction by applying his abnormalities as normal thoughts.

I'll let you misinterpret as to why that is. Begin.

Philosophy laid the groundwork for psychology and we all know that philosophy does WAY too much questioning. I believe Freud considered himself to be more of a philosopher than anything, but I could be wrong on this.

I believe so. He is more of a philosopher as nothing he ever did was very scientific and hes far from being the first person to question and theorize in what is psychology. He's far from being the father of psychology and no one follows anything he ever did very seriously but he did lay the groundwork for psychoanalyist which of course everyone knows what that is. a lot of people hate him though for bringing about pop psychology which would have been brought around eventually

Yeah, Im taking a freshman psychology class which is just about the gayest thing ever because you have all these little 18 year old kids that are going to leave class and try to psycho-analyze everyone.

I just dont like Freud. I think its funny that so many people praise him when hardly any of his practices and theories are used today. He did lead the way for a lot of study to be done, but I just think he was a ridiculous man. To each their own.

And like I started to hit on earlier.... philosophers has been questioning everything for thousands of years....just think about Socrates.

people can ego-trip on any subject...BELIEVE me. Philosophy probably does question too much, but I like philosophy...that's why it's my minor. I have known people of many majors though, who totally powertrip on everything from computer programming to exercise sports sciences. Philosophy does ask some very good questions, but I try not to take it too seriously....especially existentialism, which seems to be the one field that everyone thinks they know something about. I think that people perceive it as this really intellectual, interesting topic, but I think its pretty much a joke.

I admit to ego trippin in whatever multicultural course I had to take in the mass comm dept. It was like a speech req?

anyway everyone in there was your run of the mill frat/sorority kid who've never really been anywhere except maybe cancun or their aunts in minnesota.

it's hard to sit quiet when you hear rampant ignorance spew from the suck of some 19yr old chick from Round Rock...

I'm sure they just thought I was conceited. but what the hell are you supposed to do when you're discussing african tribes and the civil wars and they're talking out their ass, but you've been there and witnessed the genocide and whatnot firsthand? just sit there and let them feel good about themselves?

can't do it.

Probably incorporate it into my ren fest costume and otherwise have it displayed up on a wall.

I wouldn't mind a simple wedding band, but I dislike typical engagement rings with a huge rock and whatnot.
