As the day marches on, perhaps I'll see if a brave delivery boy is just that.....brave.

The funny thing to me is how everyone freaks out so badly here about weather. I had to go to work of course, and the roads weren't even bad this morning (I got off at 730). The South 1st bridge was a touch icy, but not bad. Schools are closed, roads are closed, no one is going to work, etc. It all makes me laugh actually. At least the majority of the shitty drivers are staying home it appears...

They kept making announcements at work last night, and one of them said there were 45 wrecks in 15 minutes. Come on people!

Yeah, thats what makes me happy about staying home. People here are absolutely horrible drivers when there is the lightest sprinkle of rain, so I'm not about to do battle when there is some ice

My poor little RWD car wouldn't stand a chance on the ice. Doesn't help that my parents' long-ass, meandering driveway is iced up all to shit.

Why can't people seem to understand (these people include those who insist on driving huge mother fuckin Texas trucks) that driving 20 on icy roads is not only acceptable but NECESSARY! Nothing pisses me off more then some fucker riding my ass in a snow storm.

it got to freezing in el paso today

which meant all day yesterday were local news clips on tv:

Is snow in the forecast for el paso, watch KVIA/KFOX/KVIA tonight to find out

then you watch the news, and show the projected weather...but, just to tease everyone, they tell you what needs to happen for snow to occur

the the moisture from about 100miles south of juarez needs to come up over to el paso for snow to occur

god fuck i hate el paso

Dallas is interesting when there is snow and ice involved...

The roads were dry yesterday, so everything was fine, today there is no ice really but people don't know what snow is and freak out when they see it. I was going 45 on the freeway, which I thought was reasonable, especially with deicing stuff and sand on the road...

What is really weird is how much stuff is just deserted.

I gonna try to actually go into work tomorrow. I got all of the ice off my car (up to an inch thick in places!), so I'm ready to brave the long-ass driveway tomorrow. unsure.gif

if you don't have to go in, i would definitely recommend staying home, especially if it's as bad as everyone has been saying.

driving on snow is easy and fun. driving on a sheet of ice is not if you're not used to it.

heh, whenever it got really icy in denver, we would drive to our high school's biggest parking lot, pull the e-brake, and just slide around until we either stopped or (almost) hit something.

My boss said that even if Lubbock gets 10 inches of snow, work will not be canceled.

that's understandable

lubbock gets snow often enough that it's not too much of an anomaly

although austin had an excuse because from what i understand the ice storm was intense

10 inches is A LOT of snow

i do agree that a 10 - 12 inches is gonna be crazy out there but i think they will be prepared with snow melt and plows on the main roads...

that's what i meant about it not being too much of an anomaly

Everycar looked like this. A sheet of ice around an inch think, covering every inch of the car.

Some people at work said that their driveways had up to 4 inch thick layers of ice.

Ditto what Rocky said. My hands and elbows are sore from beating the shit out of the coating of ice on my car to get it uncovered.

I was hoping that post that I made earlier would have worked so that I could be lazy...but it did not so .... I repost the ice from my car

some chunks we took off were WAY bigger than this

none of that is snow....just ice

Thats not an icicle...thats how thick the ice was..... sometimes twice that

Thats two leaves frozen inside an icicle...crappy pic, but I thought it was neat

Sorry for the piss poor quality. I did this with my camera phone.

Lubbock is full of BS. Last sat when I left lubbock for Ruidoso, at 12 noon, there was lots of ice on Brownfield. They didn't even sand the road. That is one of the many reasons this town sucks.

Within reason - the ice isn't even THAT bad.

The problem is when you can't even get out of your apt complex or driveway. And lets asy you can, then you ask yourself if you trust driving on the roads next to people who think slamming the breaks on bridges is the best way to approach possible minor slickness..............

I've driven in a few "snowstorms" of sorts in North Texas in the DFW region. it is a bit wacky, but you can get by fine if you keep cool and focus...This ice shit is just asking for trouble in the ATX area especially. Mostly due to all the fucking JEWS.
