Now I know a lot of you will think I'm crazy, but I'm thinking we'll probably beat them. It seems this year we've caught the tech bug of the past, where we play like crap against teams we should beat. Someone like Texas will get them a lot more focused.

Im saying this could be the home game where you all score under 10. McCoy is looking damn good...getting better with each game. Texas Tech seems to be falling apart one game at a time. I would also find it kinda neat if Baylor scored more points against UT than Tech... that would be humorous. I like Baylor though. They always try to keep up.

Im saying this could be the home game where you all score under 10. any other time i'd totally disagree... although in years past we've had time where we've beaten #5 in the nation then turned around and lost to a scrub team. there's also been times where we lost to a scrub only to come out with a big win. tech's theme seems to have always been: play well against good teams, play like crap against scrub teams. |

It seems this year we've caught the tech bug of the past, where we play like crap against teams we should beat. Someone like Texas will get them a lot more focused. Man that was horrible two years ago, I was right in the middle of the crowd waiting in line to get tickets when it happened. People were throwing all kinds of shit up in the air and it was landing on people. I remember a gallon of water hit a girl right on the head it was horrible. It almost turned into an all out riot. On a side note, I think we can beat texas if we get focused and pissed off after two losses in the past weeks. But it will probably not turn out that way and we will get pounded into the ground like ground beef after a caveman BBQ -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

If the offense can stop imploding, then it shouldn't be such a blowout really.
Baylor put up 297 passing yards against UT. Their secondary continues to be bad. Oh we are supposed to be impressed by Ross ? Big OU game ? He had a big hit on somebody going out of bounds, got an interception off a horrible pass by Thompson (who was shit ugly that day), then another off a free for all long ball. His hustle to the AD lateral pass was good though. If you actually watch games, you'll see that they really have poor coverage. They also rarely get their hands on the ball to force incompletions. The problem is, their front 7 are more than willing to make a play on ANY mistake of yours. This is where their defense gets its power. I really don't know if Harrell can man up and calm down and stop shitting, that's pretty much the most important thing. But can his young ass handle that ? I'm not counting on it. I think the very best Tech can do is keep it within 10 until the 3rd quarter. I'd like to have more confidence, but they just keep screwing up at the basics of it all.....make clean passes...catch clean passes. Their run defense is obviously weak, but that isn't even what I'm worried about. It's the run defense against the scrambling QB. You don't have to be blazing fast, just attempt to run against Tech and you'll get yards. McCoy isn't shy to running, so he'll get first downs on those series where the Tech D actually did step up fully. Leach's offense just needs more tuning, and more discipline out of these players. It's the defense as a whole that needs to be reconsidered. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

Harrell crumbles under any pressure while McCoy is very effective at avoiding the blitz |

Harrell crumbles under any pressure while McCoy is very effective at avoiding the blitz Harrell doesn't respond to pressure at all... that's his problem. He has no intensity at all. It's more like someone going out there to do a job. If he could change his attitude it'd make a world of difference. He needs to treat every game like a Big 12 championship or something. His main problems are: 1) not knowing when to get rid of the ball or when to tuck it and take the sack 2) not putting enough power in his throw 3) his habit of looking straight to the reciever long before he throws the ball (as in giving away where he's throwing) and as far as the offense being "a joke"... it's worked pretty great so far. if we could ever get some recruits we'd kick some ass. if the leach style offense was such a joke, people wouldn't be copying it all over the place (like the Baylor team you keep talkin up). |

i dont understand how Leach trusts Harrell, but oh well. He probably doesnt care. He has said his team is not growing at the pace he would like it to.
And I keep hearing people say Robert Johnson will go pro. I am going to say the only person who has a chance to get picked up in the draft is Joel Filani because Hicks has been a disappointment the last two years. No one threw the fade pass like Cumbie did. -------------------- ![]() |

the fact that we're still 16th in the nation in total offense would imply it hasn't been stopped. the problem isn't some miraculous defenses stopping us, it's us coughing up the ball and doing stupid shit that doesn't get us in the endzone.

STILL? umm have the numbers come out already? i honestly dont know so im asking.... i mean, i dont see how your offense could still be number 16 when yall only scored 6 points. that being said....its the OFFENSE THAT IS SUCKING...and its not all Harrell's fault. Its the assenine offense that Leach is running. |

16th in total offense what exactly is "asinine" about mike leach's offense? they're moving the ball fine, they're just not scoring, and they're making mistakes. it's not the coach's fault when people make mistakes. when our offense executes they're as good as any offense in the country. |

Him and Harrell should hit puberty sometime soon hopefully. You know who looks like a MAN ? Robison for UT. That dude totally embodies MAN ! -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

I'm not convinced Harrell is going to keep his cool...
But by all means, the O line is definately good enough to give him time. That UT front is brutal, and they'll get a few sacks, but really he SHOULD be able to just rape that weak secondary all day - assuming he doesn't fuck up, and the receivers feel like catching. Like you say, if Tech can keep from just turning it over...I think they can offensively run up some numbers on UT. But...the looming risk of blocked punts, and UT easily having the weapons to score as much as they want....booyah. It'd be really cool if Tech could learn to blitz. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

too bad it wont be as cold as nebraska, i think we would do better in the cold than UT would
after watching them play neb their defence looks good, espically at blitzing. That should cause some problems, but their offense wasnt connecting as much as i thought they should be...so who knows I still think UT has it by at least 10 -------------------- bored...so i did this

well we have them in the jones at night, that is one advantage
and as rocky says they do have a beat up secondary so if we can exploit that we can stay in the game. We just have to bring our A game and play our best game of the year against them. I'm predicting we stay within 10. |

I'm not really sure how you can say that.
Since 2002 we're 23-4 at home. those losses were: '02 - #17 NC '03 - #3 OU '04 - #9 UT (although we did beat #9 UT at home in '02 '06 - #23 Miz home field is a huge advantage for almost any college football team |

UT's secondary is weak. if graham gets time to throw the ball they'll get pounded. i think maybe you're underanalyzing fair enough, perhaps i am. UT's secondary isn't weak per se. they have trouble with the deep ball. they have enough team speed, however, that they're pretty efficient against the intermediate (5-15 yard) game. from what i've seen in the few Tech games i've seen this year - especially TCU - it's the same ole same ole. a bunch of 8 yard slants and 3 yard screens. works well against some defenses, not much so against a team like UT. have you seen Robison and the Griffin boys hit? if Harrell keeps baiting his receivers and sending em on those slant patterns toward the middle of the field they're gonna get themselves beheaded. also, YAC is huge in a spread offense. again, defensive speed helps to nullify YAC. and from what i've seen, Harrell isn't particularly accurate throwing deep. again, these are just my observations. being in austin i've seen a lot more of UT than Tech oh, and the topic of benching Harrell has been discussed. it would be incredibly short sighted to bench him at this point in the season. i know he's been talked about for the past few years, but he's still pretty much a rookie. he has about the same amount of experience McCoy has. i didn't see anyone calling for his head after the buckeye game. it might be a good short term solution, but it's really stupid long term. Harrell is gonna be the starter the next 3 years. why not sacrifice this season, so to speak - and by the way, 2 losses already in the Big 12 pretty much means you have no chance for any BCS bowls - and let him grow and mature? a lot of these problems aren't even caused by Harrell anyway, they're caused by the offensive coordinator and his game planning -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

The spread is currently listed at Texas favored by ~11.5-12.5
Holy fucking shit. I really expected that to be more like Texas +18 or somethin. Tech better be practicing the following things hard this week : - deeper passes - any kind of trick play with a RB or WR throwing a pass, heh - THE ABILITY TO STOP A FUCKING QB FROM JUST RUNNING UP THE MIDDLE FOR AN EASY 15 YARDS - teaching the defensive ends to stay home so that the counter running plays don't eat them up all day -Watching Brandon Jackson's amazing fucking touchdown on Texas this week. Shannon Woods better study that -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

Seriously. Why doesn't this happen more often. because typically a broken gadget play = nasty turnover/possible defensive touchdown I'm suprised it hasn't been used with RoJo being a former QB & all -------------------- |

"they haven't played anyone good" "they come from a lousy conference" etc etc wasn't that what people said about TCU before Tech played em? i've noticed people using those justifications way too often. oftentimes, they're incorrect remember two years ago, when USC crushed OU even though everyone though OU would roll because they came from a tougher conference? same with UT last year - the Big 12 was down, so lots of people assumed they'd get crushed by USC this isn't even about UT's team really, it's just something i've noticed. don't fall into that mindset of discounting a team just because they haven't yet played anyone good -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

oh this little thing called BCS not sticking up for it, as I'm not a fan of the BCS, but it does make quality wins matter. technically, it shouldn't matter, since strength of schedule was allegedly taken out of the BCS formula. of course, that isn't the case with the computers ranking UT 15 and USC 2 last week. it's painfully obvious SOS is still in there, although i'm not sure as to what capacity -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

The season isn't over yet, and they could probably jump up to 4th if they continued to win every game, and with strong performances. I'd personally love to see them play West Virginia in a bowl game. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

I'd personally love to see them play West Virginia in a bowl game. doesn't really matter how high they go. if Auburn wins out and beats Florida again in the SEC championship game, tthey'll go, assuming there are no other undefeated teams (discounting Boise State) i don't even think UT is the best one loss team in the country at this point, and their schedule is too weak to change my mind by the end of the season as long as UT wins out they'll be guaranteed a BCS berth. ideally, i'd like to see em play OSU again if UM beats them. the odds are pretty slim they'd play WVU. if WVU beats Louisville they're going to the championship (again, assuming USC loses, which they should). if they lose, they ain't going to a BCS bowl. WVU/UT would be fun, though -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

If Tech (somehow) wins on Saturday, I then cheer for the Aggies to beat Baylor, and hope they somehow win out the season to be big 12 south champions....
But More likely I'll watch UT win, and then cheer on Baylor, on principle of fuck the aggies, and I like Baylor's improvements. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

The last time Texas lost a true road game was to Texas Tech in 2002. The Red Raiders used a little trickeration, receiver Mickey Peters tossed a 29-yard pass that ultimately set-up the go-ahead score.
Texas Tech ran the same play (basically) last year against Kansas, with wideout Robert Johnson overthrowing Joel Filani. |

wouldnt that leave A&M with only 2 overall losses? will they lose to Baylor this weekend? In my lil wish list I put "Nebraska beats A&M on 11/11" which gives them 2 conference losses, which would tie us, except since we beat them we win the tie. And who says Nebraska will win the north? Wat about the Nebraska/Mizzou game? It could very well be mizzou, but today they play OU, and then have Nebraska in Lincoln. All of this, plus, us winning the rest of the season is very slim. i know... which is why i injected so much sarcasm into my post I think you have more of a chance to win the lottery well... call me an optimist but my guess is tech has better than a 1 in 175,711,536 (mega millions) or 1 in 25,827,165 (tx lotto) chance of winning the big 12 championship (damn, never realized chances of the tx lotto were so much "better") heh |

Making that field goal made it a three score game for UT again... and had we scored ONE more touchdown the whole 2nd half, it would have been the winning 3 points. |

man what a heartbreaker... although i think some of the calls sucked, put simply, we got beat. we did what we've done most of the year, play one good half (in this case awesome half) and one bad half. you can't give UT the kind of chances we gave em, or not capitalize on their mistakes (turnovers).

I also have to say I was extremely impressed with our team in this game though. Graham was throwing some dart passes for a change and was deadly accurate. The defense I thought did amazing. There were a couple of blown coverages that resulted in UT TDs, but I credit UT more for taking advantage of that every single time.

although i think some of the calls sucked, put simply, we got beat. i watched the first half of the game last night when it reaired at midnight because i wanted to see what angles tv people had and what those commentators would say. its really interesting the comments they made about the booth review judges and how theyre almost harming more than theyre helping. like that one play where they reviewed if hicks had possession or it was incomplete, when they stopped and said the play was under review, the commentators (much like most of the stadium) were like what is there to review? i just cant help but feel that the refs gave ut the game. there were some key calls that were made that just stripped away our momentum and handed it to ut on a silver platter, when the calls were blatantly wrong (or blantantly not even called in the first place ie penalties). and yeah i know people are gonna say we shouldnt have let it get that close to where it came down to one bad call that ended the game, but it wasnt one bad call, it was several very important bad calls. i respect ut and i know that they are a good team and i would be able to accept the loss if i feel it was earned. im not whining because omg tech should have won because theyre my team and no one else is as good, but i really feel like we were cheated. -------------------- Forget regret

too many replays
i think for the most part, the calls were right...except one (the catch, fumble, recover) i think replay is a good thing to have...but that's way too god damn many. instead of letting the game be played, it's the whole 'are we sure'. I think the coaches should have their replay as it is, but the booth needs to calm down on that shit. UT won because they are the better team. TTU had their chances to capitalize and they did in the first half. but you can't blame it on GH not getting the first, or any other specific play. -------------------- |

what a helluva game
as much i am a UT homer, there were some pretty questionable calls against tech. tech shouldn't have anything to be ashamed of. they came out pumped and outplayed UT the first half. UT's D and Leach's coaching was too much to overcome in the second half McCoy vs Harrell should be fun the next few years -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

When everybody does their job on the Tech Offense, its amazing what happens. For the passing of course.
My Tech Wishlist : - FIND SOMEBODY WHO CAN POUND THE BALL FOR 1-2 YARD GAINS - Learn to stop a QB who decides to run. Here's a hint, what QBs has Tech played this year that scrambled for first downs at important times ? TCU, Missouri, Texas.....and tell me how those games ended. Good show though. I'm with Will on being excited about the McCoy vs Harrell match up. I don't know what kind of talent UT has coming into their secondary next year, but they gotta get something goin on. It's wayyyyy too early to seriously talk about next years game in Austin, but imagine how big of an upset that could be. Hows the receiver farm for Tech ? I hope that after Harrell finds his groove this year and prepares for next year, he has plenty of people to still throw to to make plays. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

Texas Tech only has two healthy running backs on the roster right now: Shannon Woods and Kobey Lewis. Second-string Baron Batch came down with an injury a couple of weeks ago and is likely out for the season while junior Taurance Rawls was lost for the year before spring practice even started. Pete Richardson entered fall camp at running back, but soon moved to cornerback in an attempt to gain more playing time. Of all of them, Rawls and Batch are arguably the more "powerful" backs, though neither would ever be mistaken for Jorvorskie Lane or Henry Melton.
While the Red Raiders have a fullback-type on the roster in David Schaefer, his primary role is pass protection. There are certain plays where he flares out as a receiver, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen him get a carry during practice. Additionally, Schaef has recently returned from an injury. The idea of stopping a running quarterback is much easier said than done, *especially* when you're trying to defend a team as talented as Texas. Any one of their two-deep skill players is a legitimate home run threat whenever the touch the ball. Limas Sweed, Quan Cosby, Billy Pittman, Jordan Shipley, Jermichael Finley, Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young are as explosive as anyone else you will find in the entire country. So, to set aside a linebacker to spy on Colt McCoy would arguably make the Red Raiders more vulnerable than less. What you can do, is try keep McCoy contained inside the pocket but that is pretty impossible to do all game long against the Longhorn's All-Universe offensive line. Plus, there aren't a lot of times where McCoy runs on designed keepers. Not nearly like Jeff Ballard of TCU or Missouri's Chase Daniel. Against Oklahoma last week, Daniel had nearly every single one of the Tigers' rushing attempts in the second half. That isn't McCoy's game, but he will definitely hurt you when the pocket breaks down and there isn't anyone open downfield. Though next year's receiving corps will likely not be as talented as the one Tech is fielding this year, there isn't much reason to believe that there will be a significant drop in production because of it. The Red Raiders lose three wideouts - Jarrett Hicks, Joel Filani, Robert Johnson - all of them starters. Danny Amendola returns next season and, barring injury, will undoubtedly start at H-receiver. He's really the only guy, I think, that has a secure spot for next year. Of the guys on campus right now, you'll have guys like Todd Walker, Ed Britton, Michael Crabtree battling it out for the nod at X and Z. Grant Walker, Eric Morris, Adrian Reese and L.A. Reed will all be in contention for the vacant Y, though Morris will likely stay at H and Reed could possibly see time at X or Z. (FYI, Hicks = X, Filani = Z, Johnson = Y, Amendola = H) Lyle Leong, who grey-shirted this season, could also push for time. He's plenty tall enough, and can leap like a gazelle, but needs to add some bulk. Depending on who they end up signing, a couple of true freshmen could also play for Tech in 2007. A guy like Gerald Jones, who visited this weekend, would probably see the field as a true freshman in some sort of slash capacity. If I had to guess right now, the four wideouts that start September 1, 2007 against SMU would be Crabtree at X, Ed Britton at Z, Amendola at H and Reed/Walker at Y. Okay, I copped out at Y but Reed could honestly start at either inside position - he's been moved around a ton since he's been on campus. Honestly, in my opinion, the biggest thing that will help/has helped the development of Graham Harrell will be/has been the lights-out performance of Shannon Woods this season. He has exceeded all of my expectations by a very large margin. |

Losing Hicks, Filani, and Johnson is going to suck

filani, not so much, dude can't catch a ball or carry the ball without fumbling
it's not like we don't have a whole stable of talented receivers to replace them though |
