I've done it before in places like Slide where there's two lanes. I'll get next to someone going like 35 and just slow down and ride next to them for a ways.

the cops in dallas tried to do this for like a month about a year or two ago, they called them "rolling roadblocks"...

it didn't last very long, and laura miller caught a lot of flak for it (bitch needs to die)

Wrong. The actions of the driver in the white van almost got a car ran into. Also, you don't know if there was anyone in the car or if it was broke down on the side of the road with the driver not present.

My point is that they weren't going slow. They were going the speed limit - the fastest they were legally allowed to drive. When you accept your driver's license, you kind of obligate yourself to following these traffic laws.

and in texas it isn't illegal, it's not considered a roadblock unless it actually keeps traffic from moving on the road; this is how it was legal (albiet stupid) when the DPD did it in dallas for a whole 2 or 3 weeks before they realized it was a waste of manpower, time, and energy.

furthermore, there isn't a judge in the land that would charge them guilty for obeying the law.

What isn't illegal?

I think you are talking to the wrong person about that.

All I'm trying to saying is that people that don't go with the flow of trafic cause problems.

yeah, i would have quoted the two different posts but this version of IPB doesn't allow that. the first sentance is for you.

the rest is for whoever said that it was illegal. i forget who.

If I look in my rear view mirror and see someone weaving in and out of traffic (which I see often), ill drive right next to someone in the lane next to me. I love to do this on Frankford past 4th street. Everyone drives like maniacs on that street. I like to piss people off when I drive.

actually the lefthand lane is considered a passing lane by law and you can get a ticket if you are purposefully going slow it in...

Oh and also, creating a hazardous situation on the road, like they did, is also illegal, no matter how close to the speed limit you were going. Because there is proof that this was a pre-planned event and not just 5 random strangers, they can be charged with creating a hazardous situation on the road.

obeying the posted speed limit is hardly a hazardous situation, driving 20 over is a good bit more hazardous.

heh i actually had a friend get a ticket for driving in the left hand lane because he wasn't passing anyone.

but you said if you are purposely going slow in it... they weren't going "slow" legally, they were at the max legal limit.

Wrong. The actual wording of the law only allows for violations when signs are posted stating left lane for passing only. And then, that only applies to highways, unless the municipality created an ordinance concerning city streets. I consulted my father about this a couple months ago for some reason.

However, what Chuck said would allow for ticketing if it could be proven that you were coordinated, but that'd be damn hard to prove in most cases...creating a video of it was pretty damn stupid laugh.gif

Here's something to ponder, in Houston, if you are in the fast lane and not going 90 you will be run off the road. However, there are police up and down the beltway and they never pull these people over, why? Because they are going with the flow of traffic.

What these kids did, while funny, is pretty stupid. They created a major traffic jam that could have been relieved had people been allowed to pass. Doing something like this in Houston would get you shot, literally.

jesus, did a few of you even listen to what their point of doing this was ? It wasn't to create a traffic jam, in fact there was no traffic jam, just a lot of cars going the speed limit. Their point was to show how ridiculous the 55mph speed limit was on that particular road. And how can you call that impeding traffic when the cars were all going the speed limit.

Not speeding does not equal impeding traffic. Now going 55 in a 70 in a left hand lane = impeding traffic.

Texas law states that you are to go with "the flow of traffic" but that doesn't mean everybody can legally fly at 90.

ya, if the law says speed limit 55...then that's the speed limit.
there's also (at least a texas) a minimum speed d (45?)
so you have to go at least 45 and not more than 55 in the given case...

is it illegal to go over 55...yes.
if it 'slows' down traffic...well it shouldn't slow down traffic cause they can't be doing more than 55..

the only people in the video directly impacted were the people directly behind the wall and those to maybe 50 feet back. you can see it in the video, after a point it filters to look like normal traffic, just going 55. it didnt look much different from the opposite lane of the highway.
