Man flips off train. Train strikes back.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- An 18-year-old man was struck and killed by a train as he reportedly stood on the tracks and made an obscene gesture at the train, the Kenosha Sheriff's Department said Saturday.

Andrew J. Grosenick and Keith A. Lien, 18, both of Silver Lake, were using the tracks as a short cut home around 11:30 p.m. Friday, Lien told deputies.

Authorities say they believe both men were intoxicated at the time.

A train approached and both men got off the tracks, but Grosenick walked back onto the track, Lien told investigators.

The Wisconsin Central Railroad conductor told authorities he also saw Grosenick return to the track, raise his arm and "flip off" the train.

The train struck Grosenick, who was declared dead at the scene.

Lien was not injured but was taken to a hospital for what the sheriff's department said was an "extreme state of intoxication."

The accident remained under investigation.

Restaraunt employee attacked by naked angry customer

Police were called to a business in the 6500 block of Forest Hill Boulevard about a naked, drunken man trying to enter a business and attack an employee. An employee said that the man and a woman were in the backseat of a black Oldsmobile that was driven by another man and they ordered food. The employee said the man and woman were having sex. The employee told the driver to pull to the front of the business because of a mistake in the order. The employee stepped out of the business and handed a bag to the woman. The woman then said that he touched her breast. The naked man exited the car and attacked the employee. The employee tried to run into the business, but the man followed him and punched him in the eye. The man was lying on the ground with his body half inside and half outside, causing the door of the business to be open. The man stood up, went into the business and stumbled several times as he walked toward the bathroom. The officer made contact with the man who smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech. The man was arrested.

YONKERS — A Yonkers man was in extremely critical condition after jumping nude four stories from an apartment building landing yesterday, police said.

Police said they were called to 85 Riverdale Ave. about 2:50 a.m. yesterday on a report of a disorderly man banging on doors in the halls.

Lt. Timothy Hodges, a Police Department spokesman, said that when Police Officers David Barca and Steve Jesus arrived, a building security officer told them Franswa "Francios" Simmons, 36, of 6 Schroeder St., was running around naked in the sixth-floor hall.

When the police officers got off the elevator with the security officer, they saw Simmons screaming. His clothing had been thrown throughout the hall.

Simmons went into another elevator and started throwing out debris that he had taken from an apartment he had broken into, Hodges said.

When Barca and Jesus tried to talk to Simmons, the naked man got into a "fighting stance," Hodges said.

The officers sprayed him with department-issued pepper spray, but he licked it off of his face and told the officers that it tasted like water.

He then ran into another section of the building and jumped through a closed window and fell 12 feet onto a landing at 87 Riverdale Ave.

As the officers tried to talk to him, Simmons sat on the ledge for a short time, then jumped. He landed on the sidewalk four stories down.

He severely injured both legs, police said. Police and Empress Ambulance treated him, and he was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He remained unconscious and in a coma as of late yesterday, police said.

Hodges said there was no indication why Simmons jumped out the window and off the roof.

Simmons is being charged with burglary, a felony, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Both police officers were treated at a hospital for exposure to pepper spray and later released.

While at work my dad had an elderly lady customer approach him about something. They got to friendly chit-chatting and she mentioned how her husband used to "mix these chemicals by hand when he was a farmer. Now he's got lukemia...just didn't know about that stuff back then."
My dad makes an off the collar remark in response: "Yeah, it's kind of like the stuff with lead and the tainted pet food that came in from China...stuff we just didn't know about."

her next comment...
"Yeah, and boy I'll tell ya'. If that nigger gets in office he'll let all those AIDS niggers in this country and then AIDS will be everywhere! And just as bad if she gets in there...we'll all go to hell if she gets elected."

My father then said "Ok..." rolled his eyes, and walked away.

i have been getting home early lately and actually have caught the news the past week or so... BOSTON - Dunkin' Donuts has pulled an online advertisement featuring Rachael Ray after complaints that a fringed black-and-white scarf that the celebrity chef wore in the ad offers symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism.

The coffee and baked goods chain said the ad that began appearing online May 7 was pulled over the past weekend because "the possibility of misperception detracted from its original intention to promote our iced coffee."

In the spot, Ray holds an iced coffee while standing in front of trees with pink blossoms.

Critics, including conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, complained that the scarf wrapped around her looked like a kaffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress. Critics who fueled online complaints about the ad in blogs say such scarves have come to symbolize Muslim extremism and terrorism.

The kaffiyeh, Malkin wrote in a column posted online last Friday, "has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not-so-ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons."

A statement issued Wednesday by Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' Brands Inc., however, said the scarf had a paisley design, and was selected by a stylist for the advertising shoot.

"Absolutely no symbolism was intended," the company said.

Dunkin' spokeswoman Michelle King said the ad appeared on the chain's Web site, as well as other commercial sites.

"Kaffiyehs are worn every day on the street by Palestinians and other people in the Middle East — by people going to work, going to school, taking care of their families, and just trying to keep warm."

While some extremists and terrorists may wear kaffiyehs, "To reduce their meaning to support for terrorism has a tacit racist tone to it," Bishara said.

Malkin, in a posting following up on last week's column, said of Dunkin's decision to pull the ad, "It's refreshing to see an American company show sensitivity to the concerns of Americans opposed to Islamic jihad and its apologists."

Ray, host of the Food Network television program "30 Minute Meals" as well as a syndicated daytime talk show, began appearing in ads for Dunkin' Donuts in March 2007. NEW YORK - Wall Street has — at least for the moment — shrugged off some of its many concerns and bounded higher thanks to a drop in oil prices.

The Dow Jones industrial average has shot up 276 points to the 11,239 level, its biggest jump in more than three months.

Investors were relieved when crude fell $4.14 to settle at $134.60 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That brought oil's two-day plunge to more than $10.

Supposed Murder Ruled Suicide--Real Life CSI Case

Authorities say a man believed to have been kidnapped and murdered while on his way to Lubbock actually committed suicide. Thomas Hickman--regional manager for Red Lobster-- was headed to Lubbock back in March when he disappeared.
His body was found in a field in eastern New Mexico. He had been shot once in the back of the head. Authorities now say Hickman staged his death to look like murder. They believe he duct taped his own mouth and even tied a gun to several helium balloons to make it float away after he pulled the trigger.

Look at the scale! Just because it's pretty damn close to the line doesn't mean it's $0, especially way back in the 1920's. Obviously, there's not much adjusting needed for the modern era, but there does seem to be some spikes around early 1920's, early 1930's, early-to-mid 1970's, and 1986-87.
