Local restaurants, reviews and such Options

I think we should start a reviwing system of restaurants around here. We've all been to chains before (chik fil a tastes the same here as elsewhere) but what about stuff that's local or maybe just not nationwide?

Moose Magoo's:
It was ok. I got a chicken sandwich but the chicken was not very good. I had to pay extra for fries instead of chips and the sandwich was on the pricy side to begin with. The strawberry margarita was good though and we hit happy hour so it was like $2. I might consider going back, maybe on karaoke night, but I would not get the same thing again.

Ruby Tequila's:
Took a long time to get seated as a party of four on a Friday night (there were some other parties each in excess of like 12 people apiece which I'm sure didn't help). The food was really good (I got beef fajitas) but would have been really expensive if not on a value menu of sorts. The margaritas come from a slushie like machine, so they got less frozen and more runny as the Friday rush started. I'd go back.

Home Plate Diner:
Food was mediocre. So boring I don't remember what I got (maybe a baked potato?) Very informal setting but not crowded so that's a plus. Nothing special. Might go back if I was invited to a group already there, but probably wouldn't go back on my own choice.

Cafe J:
Really, really good food but very pricy. Atmosphere was nice, but waitstaff seemed slightly underdressed for how nice the place was and how pricy the menu got. A place to take someone on a date (we went for our anniversary) or maybe like a nice dinner when family is in town. Would definitely go back, as long as mom pays!

Zookini's:
This one is an "eh." Not impressed by anything there. The plus is that they have both a salad bar and a menu so you can choose which mood you are in. Next time I'll try the salad bar.

Sugarbaker's:
This place is a bakery, but they also have a kind of cafe with sandwiches and stuff. A little pricy for a turkey sandwich, but the desserts looked really good and I got some cookies which were good. Funny thing is we went around Valentine's and they had some heart cookies with sayings on them. Pretty sad when they used the wrong form of the word "you're." Would go back for dessert.

Gardski's:
Been a few times. The monte cristo sandwich is really good. Free chips and all that. Cute little place. Would go back.

Skyview's:
Really nice. Really fancy. Really pricy. If going for dinner, check the menu ahead of time to make sure it's something you like because there's really not much choice. Pretty pricy but nice for a special occasion (like my 21st birthday!)

Every time I have been to Gardskis I get horrible service. The food is pretty good though.

I would agree with Zookinis. The salad bar is the only really good thing about it. It has pretty much everything you could put on a salad.

Thai Pepper is my favorite thai food place. It can get busy around dinner. It isnt too expensive either.

ruby tequilas is cool and if you get their house margaritas its pretty damn good (the swirls) i want one now. but since they are like slushes you are running the chance of them being melty yeah but thats also a chain

i guess im saying ive never been to any 'local' places. except skyviews - thought it was good and i like the whole 2 menu items with options stemming from there. more of an authentic restaurant feel but i had what the kids were cooking. still good

Hebi's
Good local deli. Nice atmosphere, free wi-fi, fairly well priced food. I thought the food was good and was in my price range (didn't spend $9 for a sandwich and drink like at Jason's Deli).

Hamburgers, Fries, and Cherry Pie's
Stupid name, interesting concept. It's a take on the 50's diner and it has the atmosphere, though it is laid out a little strange. The food was decent but was a little pricy. I had a mushroom swiss burger and was just dry, definitely not a plus.

McDonald's on 4th/ Slide - The food was good but once I went at 4am and they weren’t serving their lunch menu. I’d go back. Great Value! Drink, Fries and Sandwich goes for about 4-5 bucks.

Taco Villa on 19th- Great service and atmosphere. The only complaint I have is they don’t serve rice. Strange?

Mi Tio's on 80th-ish and Univeristy has really good mexican food.

Harrigan's in the memphis place mall (memphis and 50th) is REALLY good and the bar they have is also very classy. Great steak.

Cagal's has really good steak too.

I personally think taquiero jalisco's is terrible. I also think gardski's is pretty bad too.

i have no idea if flatlanders is a chain or what not but i really liked it. i had a great cooked how i liked it huge ass steak and awesome fries plus i like the 'atmosphere'. service is laid back but i dont mind sitting around. i love the building. i cant remember what night but they have some live bands play and i saw some cool dudes there one time

El Paso (not that anyone cares, but Im bored at work)

Avila's Great Mexican food and great, friendly service. A lot of people go there because its a quiet and relaxing environment. They also have great chips and salsa while you wait. The food is out promptly. They have a kids menu for those kids that dont like Mexican food. They get a lot of compliments on their enchiladas.

Rancher's Grill This restaurant is awesome. It can be SUPER busy there, but they will always get you seated fast and your meal will be out before you know it. They have an awesome salad buffet and then a great menu with a lot of different things to chose from like chicken, steak, etc. I personally love their fried okra.

Village Inn This place has gone down the drain a little bit over the years, but its still one of my favorite restaurants to go to when Im at home. Its a great place to get breakfast (think Dennys or a cheaper version of ihop) and the service is usually really fast. Most of the restaurants are getting pretty old though. Its fun to go hang out there at midnight.

These are just a few of the billions of restaurants in El Paso. I swear Lubbock has crappy restaurants.

I had a *well-paying* job, not a cool job. In fact, I'm quitting there effective tomorrow. Working at Sandia is basically my last resort... if I don't get a good job offer by the time I'm coming up on my thesis defense, I can probably find a job out there.

Sandia itself is ok, but I don't like Albuquerque. There's a big class divide, which is kinda bothersome, and the climate is NOT to my liking. It's way, way, way too dry.

weather in el paso can be better at times. it just depends. when its windy, its worse in el paso, but we have a lot more days that are warm. THere are mountains in the middle of the city so that makes it a complete opposite of Lubbock. I guess they have their similarities, but if I had to pick a city to spend more than 4 years in, I would pick El Paso over Lubbock anyday.
