QUOTE January 27, 2006: After two decades of use, the U.S. Department of Defense is getting rid of its Beretta M9 9mm pistol, and going back to the 11.4mm (.45 caliber) weapon. There have been constant complaints about the lesser (compared to the .45) hitting power of the 9mm. And in the last few years, SOCOM (Special Operations Command) and the marines have officially adopted .45 caliber pistols as “official alternatives to the M9 Beretta. But now SOCOM has been given the task of finding a design that will be suitable as the JCP (Joint Combat Pistol). Various designs are being evaluated, but all must be .45 caliber and have a eight round magazine (at least), and high capacity mags holding up to 15. The new .45 will also have a rail for attachments, and be able to take a silencer. Length must be no more than 9.65 inches, and width no more than 1.53 inches. http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htweap/ar...s/20060127.aspx |

the 9mm was good for two things...cheap ammo and qualifying on the pistol range (pretty accurate).
considering that is a peacetime, pogue ass mindset...yeah good riddance. |

Wonder if they're gonna switch back to some iteration of the sexy, sexy m1911 (not advanced, hopefully), or if they're gonna use/develop some newer model
You know if there's any branch of the armed forces which actually, legally uses a Taurus raging bull mod for either their rugers or colts? Always wondered D: Timbo -------------------- ![]() |

heckler and koch make the socom 45. I highly doubt that will become a service-wide issue though. too $$ for everyone.
while very pretty, the m1911 is outdated. cant hold enough rounds, too heavy, trigger squeeze to hard...I'm gonna assume they will go with something without a hammer. but there are still alot in the armory, so they may revamp them? I just bought the world's ugliest pistol and they will probably go to something like that since it holds so many rounds and is light and shoots rad. regarding the taurus...I personally have never heard of nor seen a taurus in the armory. |

QUOTE (CANNONBALL @ Apr 7 2006, 01:31 PM) PPKs arent ugly? Eh, I think they are. They're all scrawny and scrunched up; Roger Moore be damned, it looks silly. But yes, the XD's whole two-tone thing makes me question my faith in Jesus Timbo -------------------- ![]() |
