I was looking at my sister-in-law's pictures and noticed that there is a massive pool and lazy river in front of the rec center!

What?! When did that happen?

What do they do in the winter?

I was actually pretty against the Leisure Pool idea until I got to see it -- it turned out pretty tasteful and I like how they included a pool with lanes in it as well. What's also cool is that they have family hours. A lot of community pools have been closing around the city so this is probably a welcome sight for most families. I just wish the thing came in not 50% over budget....

I miss swimming. They closed down the Natatorium here at Eastern for renovation/repair. It was supposed to take about 4 months. That was last August...

Every construction project that there is comes in over budget, it's designed that way..

You request a lot less money than you actually need to get approval for the project, then you come back like "Ohhhhh! But if we had another $XXXXXXXXXX we will have a fully automated super turbo fully redudant midget widget articulator integrated with the electronically actuated wumpy mumpus drying system!!!"

And you get more money.

It's a cat-and-mouse game smile.gif

but not the clever ones....

i agree with you completely though. if i was at an apartment that had a pool, i wouldn't want it filled with freeloaders either. but that still doesn't stop me. (asshole, i know)

forgive me, i didn't mean to imply that it was. was just saying that there are plenty of freeloaders out there that never get caught, no matter what "safety" is put in place

I really don't think its fear of being caught people don't do it. Its that people don't want to be viewed as trashy, even to complete strangers.

Almost three years after the initial groundbreaking ceremonies, the Student Leisure Pool at the Robert H. Ewalt Student Recreation Center is open for business, making Texas Tech the fifth Big 12 school to feature such a facility.

http://techimpressions.net/082/leisurepool/comparison2.php

last paragraph

QUOTE
When compared to the four conferences that surround the Big XII, out of 38 public universities only five have leisure pools on campus. Out of 11 public universities, five of them have leisure pools on campus.

also from first page of article:
QUOTE
Tech is just one of five schools in the Big XII conference that will have a leisure pool on campus. The Big XII Conference has more schools with leisure pools than any other conference surrounding our area.

Of those conferences surrounding the Big XII, only one Texas university from those conferences has a leisure pool on campus.

Texas Tech, in addition to Texas A&M, the University of Texas and Kansas State University and the University of Missouri are the schools in the Big XII with a leisure pool on campus. The University of Houston, in Conference USA, is the one other Texas school with a leisure pool.

that first quote is kind of redundant or hard to understand. also, it just says conferences in our area...so that might just mean the small conferences around us like conferance USA, sun belt, etc. and not the SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, etc.

Seems like a case of "keeping up with the Jones" since A&M and UT have one.

that's what I figured. can't let A&M or Texas do anything we're not doing.
how's the progress of the new BA going?

There's something going on at the Business Administration? The only construction that I see on campus is that they are making new booths for the traffic/parking people scattered throughout campus (the ones that tell you you can't cut through campus) and also are fortifying the underground tunnels near memorial circle. Oh and the library parking lot got repaved and some dorms are getting new windows.

They're beginning the foundation of the facility. It's going to be fairly large and spread out (not as tall as the current BA).

My understanding is that the BA will become a new Holden Hall type facility and a new business school will be built.

Yes, I know. They want to move that stuff to the current BA and turn Holden Hall into offices or renovate it for better classrooms.

The new BA construction is where Thompson hall was once located. Also, the sam's place in chitwood weymouth no longer exists. The new sam's place west is opening in August in Wiggens and will include a chic fil a, quiznos and a habachi grill.

Wasn't Wiggins the old dining hall that turned into the athletic dining hall?

What took the place of the Sam's Place in Chitwood/Weymouth?

Yeah, Wiggins is just west of Chitwood/Weymouth.

Right now they're gutting the old Sam's...not sure what they're doing with it. Possibly another large study area or common room.

Yeah, I agree. All you care to eat is amazing. Unfortunatly, they are going extinct on our campus... not enough revenue.

Wasn't Wiggins the old dining hall that turned into the athletic dining hall?

What took the place of the Sam's Place in Chitwood/Weymouth?

Yeah, it's been completely remodeled.

best part was working there, and at the end of the year, people wanting to use their cards to get rid of their food plans. i came home with 3-4 12 packs of dr pepper every day, at the end of the year, i had a pallet of dr pepper

Yeah. Policy has changed. Now students are not allowed to buy drinks and other things for the employees. This can lead to termination.

gay

what justification do they have for that policy? i'm just curious, because it's odd to think that someone could get in trouble for a free gift.

How to you figure? I don't think that's the motivation for the policy. Students have already purchase their dinning bucks. I guess it's not to encourage employees to seek out these donations.

Doesn't have anything to do with Tech. Govt employees cannot take gifts from anyone while on the job.
