I was looking at my sister-in-law's pictures and noticed that there is a massive pool and lazy river in front of the rec center! What?! When did that happen? What do they do in the winter? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I was actually pretty against the Leisure Pool idea until I got to see it -- it turned out pretty tasteful and I like how they included a pool with lanes in it as well. What's also cool is that they have family hours. A lot of community pools have been closing around the city so this is probably a welcome sight for most families. I just wish the thing came in not 50% over budget....

I miss swimming. They closed down the Natatorium here at Eastern for renovation/repair. It was supposed to take about 4 months. That was last August...

You request a lot less money than you actually need to get approval for the project, then you come back like "Ohhhhh! But if we had another $XXXXXXXXXX we will have a fully automated super turbo fully redudant midget widget articulator integrated with the electronically actuated wumpy mumpus drying system!!!" http://techimpressions.net/082/leisurepool/comparison2.php last paragraph QUOTE When compared to the four conferences that surround the Big XII, out of 38 public universities only five have leisure pools on campus. Out of 11 public universities, five of them have leisure pools on campus. also from first page of article: QUOTE Tech is just one of five schools in the Big XII conference that will have a leisure pool on campus. The Big XII Conference has more schools with leisure pools than any other conference surrounding our area. Of those conferences surrounding the Big XII, only one Texas university from those conferences has a leisure pool on campus. Texas Tech, in addition to Texas A&M, the University of Texas and Kansas State University and the University of Missouri are the schools in the Big XII with a leisure pool on campus. The University of Houston, in Conference USA, is the one other Texas school with a leisure pool. -------------------- |

that first quote is kind of redundant or hard to understand. also, it just says conferences in our area...so that might just mean the small conferences around us like conferance USA, sun belt, etc. and not the SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, etc.

There's something going on at the Business Administration? The only construction that I see on campus is that they are making new booths for the traffic/parking people scattered throughout campus (the ones that tell you you can't cut through campus) and also are fortifying the underground tunnels near memorial circle. Oh and the library parking lot got repaved and some dorms are getting new windows. -------------------- |

The new BA construction is where Thompson hall was once located. Also, the sam's place in chitwood weymouth no longer exists. The new sam's place west is opening in August in Wiggens and will include a chic fil a, quiznos and a habachi grill.

Yeah. Policy has changed. Now students are not allowed to buy drinks and other things for the employees. This can lead to termination.

I don't think that's the motivation for the policy. Students have already purchase their dinning bucks. I guess it's not to encourage employees to seek out these donations. -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? Doesn't have anything to do with Tech. Govt employees cannot take gifts from anyone while on the job.
