why don't all 3 of you buy it together?

think about it. cmac can do all the html and whatever stuff needs to be done on that end
hartmann can do all the advanced stuff or come up with new ideas to add to the website
zach (since he's the most active probably) can run the forums and be admin to that side.

everyone wins and its only $100 a piece.

Pretty much.

Lance, e-mail me.

Oh, and plans, if I took over the site? Ban cmac.

Just kidding. I would probably re-arrange the different forums, try to get the word out on the campus (I still have to go back to Lubbock every now and then), and maybe have some other features that have been talked about in the past.

What on earth would possess someone to pay Lance $300 for this? He's probably just tired of paying the $5 domain renewal and figures one of you suckers will actually think you can do something useful/profitable with it.

true, but maybe they can learn from their mistake. i think all of them were kinda friends that hung out, and then had disagreements and what not. i dont think that would be the case with these other guys.

hartmann used to be in all of it, so i'm sure he has a lot of info and ideas on that. even if he buys it totally, he could use cmac and zach for day-to-day updates, modding, etc. since he seems to be kinda busy.

I would be all for letting cmac do some design for the site, Zach doing the day to day running of the boards, and Spectatrix helping.

The biggest thing that would change is probably some more rules so that the content is actually something that college kids would want to take part in.

Well, I haven't logged in since forever and I haven't even checked on the site in weeks. I'm not motivated enough to work on the site to improve it, plus I have way to many other side projects which are higher priorities.

Given all of this I might as well transfer it to someone who is motivated to improve the site and will actually do something with it to improve features and traffic.

I like the idea of multiple people taking control and ownership.

Once everyone pays I'll transfer the domain to whoever and then you guys can get your own hosting account etc. I'll also give you the login to the account on Invisions website which holds the license for the IPB forum software so you can always get the latest version. Everyone paid 250 way back in the day through donations to get a license. Who knows though, the new owners might convert it to phpBB or something.

If I buy it, I'd like a database backup as well.

I think the prof-rating service would be a bigger draw.

I think the best bet for long-term success would be to turn Techsans into an general Texas Tech portal. Academic & sports calendars, sports results, general news, student org stuff, rate-a-prof, forums, etc.

The rate-a-prof idea is a good one and is something that I will explore. Other ideas?

a restructuring of the forums.

Part of the main page could be set up as a blog format, where the admins post stories and a link back to the forums for discussion/debate.

the only other tech message board i know of is raiderpower.
maybe something that can lure their users over? but not compete..that wouldn't happen obviously.

if you redo the forums and stuff, they should all be sfw and normal, and then just have one where all the forsaken/dogmeat/posts would go. as far as modding, less mods. you only need 3-5 and just have them all global instead of one for each thing.

If you want new people to come and stay, the first thing you have to do is quit letting people post stupid shit like what Brandon does. Yall spent all that time putting up flyers and advertising and shit, peak someone's interest, then they come here and see some stupid ass anime hardcore porno pics. Or some stupid NSFW avatar. I got sick of blocking this crap and finally just had to block everyone's avatars and image posts. I don't mind reading his posts when he's actually discussing something but the line needs to be drawn on NSFW images. Even in the love & adult related section IMHO.

I'm thinking we'll revert to something similar to the RaR rules regarding images. NSFW images will not be allowed in avatars or signatures but may be linked to (with a "NSFW" next to it).

I think you're shooting yourself in the foot allowing that stuff at all, IMHO. At least, if your goal is to get tons of people to use the site.

Well, I think some things are perfectly ok to link to, as long as they are marked as NSFW.

Things that won't be allowed are posts full of naked women, sorry Dogmeat.

Well look at someone like Dogmeat or Brandon's definition of NSFW vs someone else's.

I don't think there should be an exception. It makes people wary of going into threads.

1. What makes you think that after 20 posts someone will be less offended by those types of things?

2. Requiring someone to make X number of posts before doing Y is detrimental to them using the site. I know several forums I'm on might have say, 40 active members, but then have 200 "lurkers" who eventually start posting once they see something they want to post about.

Glad Hartmann threw out the green for the site.

I'm up for being a mod/admin/whatever was suggested earlier (since I'm a loser and check the forums all the time, lol).

And I agree: I think NSFW images should be linked and clearly marked, even in LRAR (You should be able to read any thread at any time without getting in trouble). NO NSFW AVATARS OR SIGS.

Yeah, I don't like the idea of having a minimum post restriction on a forum. I'd rather just clean up LRAR. Frankly I don't care if there's *some* NSFW stuff on the forums, but it needs to be LINKED and it can't be pervasive.

the only other tech message board i know of is raiderpower.
maybe something that can lure their users over? but not compete..that wouldn't happen obviously.

if you redo the forums and stuff, they should all be sfw and normal, and then just have one where all the forsaken/dogmeat/posts would go. as far as modding, less mods. you only need 3-5 and just have them all global instead of one for each thing.

First, I don't post NSFW images in the general forums. Never have, and I'm not planning on starting.

Second, if you think I'm going to change my posting habits even slightly you are sadly mistaken.

well let's not go nazi germany on the changes yet

you can't just alienate the rest of the people here simply because you're all global moderators

NSFW image links is a good change...but the flaming shall never stop...

if you want to attract "new" people, I suggest you start a new board entirley.

You can advertise it as a more preppy alternative to Raider Power and kick all the people on here who are here now off, then invite all the frat boys and their ilk.

It will be stupendous! rolleyes.gif

??

This isn't going to become "I don't like someone... banned!".

There are going to be forum rules and if the rules aren't followed then the person goes. I don't really want a "preppy" version of RaiderPower, I'd just like to have a forum that more than 15 people visit.

I can name several forums that more than 15 people visit smile.gif

But, seriously.

The reason that this site as well as other message boards have so little traffic is primarily because of Facebook.

Why do you need to have a college-related message board unto it's own when Facebook already provides all that functionality + glam?

There's no reason for anyone to come here anymore because there are 9081 bazillion face book groups dedicated to every university out there.

I honestly think what the board needs is a sports section update (like a news feed for scores, scedules, news, etc.). Lots of college kids seem to like to use sports as a reason to be on boards, other stuff would be a plus to keep them when sports are slow.

Meh, we need SOMETHING other than just being a forum (something that peaks interest, then they stay on because of the people w/ same interest).

i never said anything about images. i meant posts in general, and yours are usually nsfw.
either way, all that's up to hartmann, dude. dont get all pissy at me.

on another note, there needs to be something that interests students to come here. raiderpower is more of an older crowd, so maybe we can gear towards the students? i know facebook has groups and stuff, but you cant communicate everywhere in one place like you can with this.
there's gotta be some ideas we can use to get people to come here.

You're talking about attracting Tech students. If you want alumni to stay you have to have something to attract them as well. Otherwise there's a conflict of interest other than talking about Tech sports.

Generational differences and all.......unless you're making this for Tech students...then whats the point of us staying? Some of us are almost in our 30's. Think about that.

MEH. i'm in a group where about 6-9 of us are writing a book from our individual experiences of the zombie apocalypse. we sorta just build on top of each other. i will admit that a couple of the characters can be eliminated completely due to their lack of originality or creativity, but for the most part the story is pretty interesting how it all meshes together
