Hey, anybody know what diseases/vitamin deficiencies/ etc. can be causing my hair to fall out? The past 2 months has been ridiculous. I'm not getting a receding hairline or bald spots or anything and hairloss does not run in my family, so it's nothing like that. My hair is just falling out. I can run my fingers through my hair and a handfull of hair will be in my hand. When I wash my hair, I'm just pulling out clumps of hair. My hair feels noticeably thinner to me, but nobody else notices because I have thick hair. I find hair ALL OVER THE HOUSE. I mean, it's everywhere. What is wrong with me?

Hmm... I think the shaved head look on females is kinda cool. Demi Moore in GI Jane. or better yet Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta. However, my hairloss isn't a genetic problem or anything. I think it's some sort of vitamin deficiency. Also, my hair is very "bendy"... like it just curls up in one or two spots on each strand and sometimes at a right angle. I don't know why it would do that. I have heard of hair doing weird things during pregnancy, and my hair was quite difficult during pregnancy. I know those things can be permanent, but what is happening now didn't happen when I was pregnant. Also, my scalp is incredibly sensitive. Not to give too much information, but I usually like my hair pulled, but I can't even stand someone touching my hair now. It just hurts.

Does psoriasis run in the family? I would go see a Derm.

B vitamins, primarily. Start taking a multivitamin if you don't already. That's usually sufficient to cover any deficiencies you might have.

Apparently it's normal to lose hair after giving birth. Should return to normal 6 months or so post-partum: http://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-normal...irth_1335883.bc
And yeah, I know you're right at 6 months, but everyone is different. -------------------- |

ok that's gotta be what it is. It started, like I said, about 2 or 3 months ago, which would have been between 12-16 weeks postpardum

It's getting worse. I'm waking up to a pile of hair on my pillow. I'm also super tired all the time. I went ahead and made a dr's appointment for tomorrow.

Haven't you been diagnosed as borderline anemic before? Hair loss + fatigue pretty much screams iron deficiency to me.

Haven't you been diagnosed as borderline anemic before? Hair loss + fatigue pretty much screams iron deficiency to me. ya and I have a reoccurring thyroid problem which can also lead to the same thing. I'm taking vitamins now though so I would have thought if it were iron deficiency that it would have stopped by now.

yeah. Sometimes it's hyperactive. Other times it's hypo active. I guess now it's hypo. They just need to kill my thyroid already. They noticed I had thyroid problems again when I was pregnant, but they can't kill it when you are pregnant. Then, we moved to Georgia, and I got it checked here and it was fine again. That was like 4 months ago though.

Not anemic for once in my life.
Tests came back that my thyroid is hyperactive again so they put me on a beta blocker. We'll see how this goes. The last time I was on one, my bp dropped and I couldn't even stand up without almost passing out. I wish they would just kill the thing already. I don't feel being on medicine that I'm not allowed to get pregnant while taking. |

That would be because beta blockers are blood pressure meds...

That would be because beta blockers are blood pressure meds... well, no duh. I know that. i don't know why the doctor would put me on that medication when I have lower bp as it is. I'm not going to take it for now. I don't know what else to do. That medication is only going to help with the racing heart, nothing else like my hair falling out.

Why don't you go back and talk to your doctor about your concerns? Don't just NOT take the medicine!

Why don't you go back and talk to your doctor about your concerns? Don't just NOT take the medicine! I am. I can't go today though. I have a baby to care for. It's not like if I do take this medicine and it drops by bp that I can just chill until it wears off.
