I just realized this after waking up from a wierd dream last night. I've never once died in a dream. I've gotten close, where someone is chasing me with a pickaxe or something, and right when he strikes I wake up. Same thing with sex. I'm always rounding third base with some hot chick then my alarm goes off. I've never actually scored with a broad in a dream. Sucks

Is this a common occurence?

i wish i could find the book i was reading this in, but it was talking about how the human mind was flawed. that it was completely incapable of comprehending a world without it's self in it somehow. dreams where you supposedly die always have you somehow over looking events that play out. supposedly no one has a dream where they actually, truelly die, that right when it is happening, they jolt awake because the mind rejects such an image.


i liked the book because of it's suggestion that this is why man invented religion. all religions have 1 thing in common:: an existance in some shape or form after death.

First time: Was falling into the grand canyon. Hit ground along side river. Dream went black for some amount of unknown time. Came to, got up walked some ways. Dream ended.

Second time: On a naval ship in a battle. Explosion knocked me into ocean. Was eaten by shark. Took awhile to die. Dream was black yet still was aware and questioned why I still had conscienceness. After a small amount of time of being incapacitated (no sight or sound) and bored, woke up.

Third time: Some sort of civil war era conflict. My squadron was ambushed and I was shot dead. Again, dream went black, but this time it restarted. Same dream but this time I tried something different. This happened several times in a Groundhog day like scenario until I eventually just fled the battlefield and survived. After short time of walking down a road, I awoke.

This does seem to be uncommon as I have yet to find anyone else with a similar experience. I do find it annoying of all the horribly wrong theories about what happens when one dies in a dream, though.

Correction: The first and third I did not have some kind of awareness. The second and third I did not get up and walk away.

Though I have a feeling what this is going to turn into. Your belief doesn't exactly match up to what happens in reality. Instead of accepting reality, you're going to try to tear it down because you can't accept that your belief can be wrong. This happens all the time. well unless one normally lives after falling off a 30-40 story building and hitting the concrete face first, then I'm pretty sure I died. not to mention getting shot in the face, etc. I've died in dreams many times . On a more serious note, it is entirely possible for your mind to simulate what it believes to be death. It is possible to imagine an experience without actually knowing for sure what that experience is like. For instance, I have had dreams of experiencing sex (unlike Will) before I had actually had sex. It is not so much that you cannot dream of dying. But is your dream accurate? Well, without knowing what death is really like, that is impossible to say for sure. But it is possible for your mind to try. In my case, and likely many others, it has.

But either way, the random guy that wrote the theory that our minds cannot imagine a world without us in it doesn't seem right to me. I have had dreams where I was not a character in the dream. The third-person type dream, except I was able to watch multiple characters and none of them were me.

Either way, it's moot. I think the only direction we can go from here is you telling me how dreaming about sex is different than dreaming about death and totally missing the point of the post. Or you can be totally original and in spite of the previous claim jokingly tell me how dreaming about sex is different than dreaming about death because you think you're funny. But I think we should all take a lesson from Brandon and just post blasphemy.
