Best Places You've Been To Options

I know that a lot of techsans do a lot of traveling, so I thought that it would be cool to post some pics of the coolest places that you have ever visited.
I just got back from a little Scandinavian stint earlier today and thought I would share some pics of absolutely the most spectacularly awesome thing I have ever done/seen/etc...



For those to find out more about the location it's called Kjeragbolten in Southwestern Norway (near the city of Stavanger). Interestingly, a friend pointed it out that it was a location for one of the wherethehellismatt videos.

When I went there was a group of seven BASE jumpers who jumped off it. It was pretty sweet to witness it.

Also, I went to another crazy place in the fjord called Preikestolen, which is this flat triangular overhang about 800m high.



In both places, there are no railings or nettings or any safety precautions. It's reported that there have been no accidental deaths (which I can see because people are SUPER cautious) even with people hanging off/dangling over the edge. Crazy!

I just thought I would share a crazy seldom visited/known area of the world that turns out to be pretty cool. I'm interested to see photos/hear stories about other areas.

Don't have pics, but one of the coolest places I've seen was up in the mountains in Colorado. We were headed up there for Tech vs CU, and we pulled up to this rest stop at like 10:30PM, was in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains, had ONE bare bulb light, and we unscrewed that and wow the sky was amazing, you could see so many stars it was crazy, and the shooting stars were almost constant, probably 20-30 per minute. Very neat place.

oh, and not joking about the 600,000 figure. broke a record on sunday. usually it just hovers around 500k.

Man that's nuts... Do they all walk there? Hell even parking your bike somewhere over there would get crowded... much less cars.

actually there arent many bikes here (not like china), but im sure there are places across town to park. however most people probably use public transport because its really good here.

its not *that* bad as you'd imagine. and, there are so many 20 something girls just walking around together. makes it all worth it!

I think Salzburg is a great place.

We just got back from our honeymoon in Belize (San Pedro), talk about being remote. Very few cars on the island since the main mode of transportation is bikes and golf carts.

Life was just slower.

I wish my husband and I could take a vacation somewhere. His work schedule doesn't allow us to though.

I guess that curly thing w/a dot underneath made me confuse your statement for a question. I suppose if I was to see an example of a surprised comment it'd be something like... "Oh wow I didn't realize Hartmann got married."

You didn't perchance go on a Royal Caribbean cruise for your honeymoon, did you, KC? I ask because those are the same destinations (+Labadee) that we had for a family cruise several years back.

I really loved Grand Cayman when I went. Beautiful snorkeling and I bet they have great scuba diving as well. Cozumel was pretty nice too.

Another pretty remote place I got a chance to go was up in the Peruvian Andes near Huarez:



Literally, I was the only person at that place.
I prefer unknown places (like this one) than sites that are known for their beauty but swamped with tourists (Machu Picchu).

We thought so too!

It was right next to a teeny-tiny church (you can see the cemetery in the picture), so it may have been the pastor's house.

We were up on Mt. Floyen. Took the funicular up, then hiked our way down, stopping to do some geocaching along the way.

Anyways, Norway is frickin' gorgeous. The prices there aren't for the faint of heart, though; we had -- literally -- $80 nachos and beer in Bergen (that's 2 beers, 1 soda, and 2 tiny nacho appetizers).

Flam was really scenic, but it's a teeny-tiny town, so there's not really anything to do but hiking and going up and down the Flam Railway, complete with the "Maiden of the Mists" at a big waterfall... that turned out to be a guy in drag. Bergen seemed to have a lot of interesting stuff to do and I might like to return there some day.

LOVED Scotland too. We did a taxi tour there, seeing Loch Lomond and Stirling Castle and hunting down haggis (harder to find than you might think). I would love to go back and tour all over Scotland, seeing the different castles and other sights.

It would be nice to travel across the Pacific but it would also be nice if I didn't have to pay for it. Some people get the benefit of a corporate plane ticket! As much as I'd like to save up for a billion U.S. dollar European vacation, I have to pay for gas.

That's a pretty cool sunset pic. That is one thing that I miss about the Lubbock is how vivid the colors of sunsets would be sometime (and how different they are almost nightly).

The only decent hotel in town was an Amerihost Inn and was right behind the Bob Evans... Never ate there. I ate everything on the menu at Baristas (since I was there for dinner every night), it was all tasty.
