My husband's 14 year old brother is coming into town next week to spend 4th of July weekend with us. I need some suggestions of things to do.
Here is the list of stuff I am looking for:
  • Affordable
  • Fun for both him and us
  • Not too hot
  • Not a lot of standing
  • Possibly less known so that the crowds won't be too terrible
Basically, we want to take him to the Schlitterbahn, but I don't know if I can stand being out in the heat that long. I won't be doing any of the rides of course, but it does seem like a huge waste for me to pay almost $40 to get in and not be able to do anything because I am about to pop. My husband is going to take him paint balling, but I want something we can all do together. I don't want to go any further than Austin or San Antonio (I live in San Marcos). Gas is too expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially if they involve caves or spelunking. I think that would be neat.

something where you can sit down and just relax would be good in your situation.

jessica, it is kind of expensive but wonder world cave can be a good time, otherwise you can still hit up the movies, the river (without tubes even, go to rio vista falls over by the river pub), bring him to the REC for some racquetball for $3 a person, go get bubble tea a the Bubble House, all here in san marcos

in austin, you can kayak/canoe (you can sit in the middle and have an umbrella) on town lake, go play mini-golf, alamo drafthouses, san antonio? you can always go to the river walk and get some ice cream, if you don't want to walk you can get a wheelchair for yourself.

Thanks for the ideas, Blue. I'm not too concerned with walking the River Walk. I did it on Saturday so I'm sure I could do it again, especially since it's really shady. I just don't want to be in the sun AND walking. That would suck ass.

I just really wanted to do some scenic stuff like caves and stuff. It would be fun.

Oh and what is Bubble Tea?

It's funny. I have lived in San Marcos for almost a year, and I haven't heard of almost any of the ideas you mentioned lol.

there is also the inner space caverns in san antonio as well

bubble tea is basically a tea product that is mixed with fruit flavors and either served on ice or blended with ice, with milk if you like. what makes it bubble tea really is that you can get these large gummi tapioca balls in your beverage with a great texture and taste like tea. you suck them through a big straw, quite delicious in my opinion. it is over one block south of sean patrick's

oh yeah, you can also go to the driving range on Hopkins, just past the walmart, if your husband is into golf at all. his bro might like it too.

A giant public pool that uses the spring for water... It's always like 67 degrees.

Well, both my husband and my parents forbid me to have this baby until the 15th. I can't just sit around bored all day. Sucks for me. I'm tired of being pregnant. My dad has work stuff until the 11th, and my husband wants to use the baby as an excuse to get out of something at work. HAHA sheesh...

It's all a joke of course.

Of course, but let's just get you some more practice at closing your legs and squeezing tight for the next two weeks. I say you go teach it as one of the lessons at some abstinence training.

Yeah...I just realized that's gonna be taken out of context. Closing legs and squeeze tight to keep the baby in. Not knocking on you or whatever. Abstinence training cuz that's something they preach, I think.

umm.. no. That place sucks. I went there last month. It was expensive, it smelled, and there were icky roosters everywhere going COCKILDOODOODLEDOOO constantly.

I just found out the Warped Tour will be in town that weekend so my husband is going to take him to that. I haven't been feeling well the past 2 days so I won't be doing much while he is here. I imagine I will feel worse next weekend.

Better do as much as possible now, because you're never going to feel the same.

Maybe. But from what I hear, things get a little lose after giving birth.

Well, I don't know how bad it is, really. I mean, you're supposed to take almost a 2 month break after giving birth from having anything go up there. That gives it time to reform and stuff. Plus, I know this kid is small. But maybe I will get lucky and they will have to slice me open instead. That's what I secretly hope for.

Well if you get a C-section, you can never give birth the "natural way" ever again though.

Yes you can. Old literature I have read says that, but everything published within the last 2-3 years that I have read says that you can.

Went to Austin back in March. Inner Space Caverns on the way there (from DFW) is worth it for sure. Zilker Park in Austin was neat and they have a beautiful botanical gardens. We also went ice skating. Alamo Drafthouse has good food. The Capitol, as well as the history museum and IMAX were neat too. Still not warm enough for us to try Barton Springs, but would have loved to.

heh we just ended up going to Warped Tour yesterday. I AM A BAD ASS. 1 week and 3 days from my due date, 2 centimeters dilated, contractions.... and I go to an outdoor festival of bands. It was awesome. We had a great time. Only complaint was that the band I really wanted to see came on at like 11 a.m., but the tickets we had said doors didn't open until noon. Pissed me off. Oh well, I doubt we would have gotten there any earlier than we did anyway.
