you could use a "marijuana pipe" to smoke other types of narcotics. thats probably why the EMTs thought he was overdosing


i think this case is just the cops/EMTs being really stupid and trying desperately not to get into trouble for it. there are other cases that are more supportive of police officers actually using tasers maliciously (not that i agree with them all)

You can also get hyperhydration/water poisoning from drinking too much water...


But I dont think there are any statistics ever of anyone ever overdosing on marijuana. It just cannot happen. You get to a certain threshold level of THC saturation in your bloodstream, and anything further has no marginal effect.

What if the kid really was on some drug? How are they supposed to know? Quit armchair QBing all these stories and look at it from the EMT/cops point of view. What if the kid was on PCP? He could have killed someone. You gonna believe some kid at the scene or you gonna take the precautions necessary to protect everyone? Have any of you ever seen a person have a grand mal seizure? You have to pretty fucking retarded to not know a person is having a seizure. Honestly, I am all for police having the proper devices to protect themselves, but in this case, I think they were just irritated that the kid was flailing about.

Haire contacted an investigator with the Texas Municipal Intergovernmental Risk Pool, which insures city governments against lawsuits. Haire said the investigator told him that a check of the Taser shows it was fired 15 times within five or six minutes that day.

I would say that is a tad bit excessive considering the kid is under 18 and isn't a serious threat to the medical personnel/cops. He has no weapons. The reason you aren't supposed to strap them down is because it injures them while seizing. They will literally jerk so hard that they will have strap marks all over their body. If they really wanted to strap him down, fine; but don't use your damn taser when you can't get the kid to hold still and stop throwing fists.

Now if he had just had a seizure a couple of minutes prior, I can understand where the officers would have been confused. People act very strangely after seizures. My brother acts like a 5 month old baby after a seizure. He loses all verbal skills, can't talk, is very disoriented, stares off, cries, and then falls asleep for 6 hours. This kid just could have gone psycho afterwards.

All in all, I think the police officers who tasered him should apologize, take a first aid medical course (they talk about seizures in first aid), and that be the end of it. Also, if a minor doesn't have a weapon, is it really necessary to use a taser? I don't really think it is.

Yeah, I mean, that's true. I seriously think it boils down to whether the kid was actually having the seizure at that moment or if he had just finished having one. Like I said, it's pretty obvious when a person is having a seizure. Afterwards, though, people vary in their behavior. Many epileptics won't remember both the seizure and a while after it over with. If they do remember any of it, it is very faint. My brother can't recall a thing for the 10-15 minutes he is having a seizure or the hours afterwards. He says he "had a bad dream"

Also, would you really want to tase someone who is overdosing? I mean, they are already having serious life-threatening effects on their body.

Eyes roll back in their head, they start foaming at the mouth like they have rabies, they fall to the ground and usually end up in the fetal position and convulse. The only way you can help them is getting them to the ground safely so they don't bust their head open. A lot of people will tell you stick your finger in their mouth to prevent them from swallowing their tongue. Not recommended, unless you want to live the rest of your life with 9 fingers.

They usually "wake up" delusional and have no recollection of having a seizure. Erica asked me what the fuck she was doing laying on the garage pavement and I had to explain to her what happened. She was groggy and not really responsive to too many questions. She spent the rest of the day resting in bed. Apparently seizures are very taxing physically.

This is just from being around one person who had one seizure so I'm not an expert, although the research I did seems to back up what I saw as the norm.

Regardless, if I saw someone having a seizure and it was my first time seeing someone having one, my initial reaction would be it's a coke/speed/meth overdose.
