Anyone know anything about Alaska cruises or cruises in general. My sis and I are thinking about going in together to get my parents one (they've been wanting to go on an alaskan cruise for a while). What are the good companies/bad companies, etc?

I've heard nothing but great things about Celebrity Cruises. The commercials are cheesy but they state facts, you can do things when you want, instead of having somewhat of a schedule.

my parents go with this company that has restored old riverboats (you know the big boats with the fancy paddle wheel thing). they have an alaskan cruise thats really cool.
and they dont have a lot of whiney kids or crazy young people on them - thats what my parents like. so "older" people seem to like it cant remember the company's name though -------------------- Little monkeys making money

I've never been to Alaska on a cruise but I have done 3 Caribbean Cruises. They are my favorite way to travel because you get to see alot of areas and its a good way to visit places you have never been without committing a week in the place.
The only companies i have used are Carnival and Royal Caribbean. They were both great cruise companies. Carnival seemed to cater to the younger audience (late 20's) while Royal Caribbean had a wider age range and seemed a little more upscale. If you have any more specific questions let me know. |

Ferries scare the crap out of me because I have heard of a lot of them crashing. I will get on a fairy at Disney World for a ride from the parking lot to the Magic Kingdom, but I'll be damned before I get on one in open water. Screw that.

I wouldn't mind going on a Disney Cruise, because they have a good bit of adult-only sections and activities. And I wanna see Mickey Mouse!!
I wouldn't go on a fag cruise, cus it's all like greasy 50-year old men. Not the hot muscley guys like in the ads. Anyone done a cruise out of Galveston? |

I went on a Disney Cruise when I was younger. I believe I was 13 or 14 at the time. We went on their 4th cruise ever so they were still trying to get things squared away and solve minor issues. I think I'm probably looking more for the big cruise ships rather than the smaller boats. Thanks for the suggestion though Cat. Yall can take the shipwreck arguing somewhere else

Our honeymoon cruise was on Carnival out of Galveston. Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel. Like Jimbo said, you can test drive before you buy, in a sense. You also get to pick your own stuff to do in port, so if you don't want to spend the day in a bar you can make your own plans. The ones who excessively party on ships like that are the ones who PLAN to do so, not because there's nothing else to do.
Jason's family did an Alaskan cruise on Princess about 5 years ago. They really enjoyed themselves from what I hear. www.cruisecritic.com was such an amazing resource while we were planning our honeymoon. Boards broken down by company, by ship, by itinerary, etc. Lots of money-saving tips as well as insider info that you may not find on cruise company websites. -------------------- Forget regret
