I'm not sure I understand... So they voted down immunity when participating in government mandated surveillance via a lopsided vote. But then they strongly support a similiar bill:
QUOTE Instead, the Senate kept alive a competing proposal from the Senate intelligence committee that would offer legal protections to the companies and that has strong support from the White House. So immunity vs "legal protections". Anyone want to explain this to me? |

No, they voted down a bill that didn't include immunity. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! Ahhhh ok. good. It would be pretty shitty if the govt ordered a private company to help them, and then have that company be legally liable for what happens.

I agree with what you're saying in principle, but this unfortunately helps legitimize the warrantless wiretap program, which I personally think is unconstitutional. -------------------- |

Yeah, I know. The private company shouldn't get in trouble for records they were ordered to give up, but the government shouldn't be asking for those records in the first place (imho). Stupid government.

Stupid government. That's the thing though. If there wasn't a warrant or other type of court order, the government didn't order them to place the wiretaps. They did so willingly. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! *shrugs* I don't know all the details. Neither do I. It'd be great if a court of law could figure all those details out. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome!
