Well I imagine they're connected by lower education. Less educated folks are more likely to have lower-paying jobs and have more kids. Not sure if the "more kids" thing is due to a lack of knowledge about birth control, less money to pay for it, or lacking understanding of how many kids they can afford to raise.
I'm not big on government handouts and state-run programs in general, but I would 100% support free condoms and free/cheap birth control pills for all. We'd have to get rid of the "abstinence-only education" mentality first, but I think free birth control could make a huge difference in poverty pregnancy rates, welfare/WIC/Medicaid dependence, etc. This post has been edited by Spectatrix: Dec 20 2007, 01:56 PM -------------------- |

thats what i was thinking about the other day. there are side affects and you are supposed to get pap smears and all the jazz before getting a prescription but it seems pointless and there are really bad side affects and certain health risks to taking aspirin (which is OTC) once again people characterizing the poor based on a news information concerning a very specific/small group -------------------- Little monkeys making money

I don't think sex accelerates those conditions, but I could be wrong. I just know I had a doc (at TTU) tell me that they really just bribe women with BC pills in order to get them the annual pap smears, but they're not actually needed. Student health center at UNM didn't require paps for BC prescriptions at all.
