this, is nothing to worry about

in 90% of the cases of probation, it is a matter of including additional information. the article practically says that.

Give them time to manipulate some data (which all schools do for regional accreditation) and to ship the report over.

we've still got national accreditation full status and individual departments usually have accreditation as well

this happens more often than you think. its not because they are worried about our competency just one of those things where we have to send in a 6,000 page document to be evaluated and we missed out on one section or we missed a statisically significant standard.

not a reflection on the university in my opinion, knowing what i know about accreditation.

Probation is a serious finding of non-compliance and usually a last step before revoking an institution's membership in the accreditation association, according to the association's policies.

its also the only step usually.

Accredited
Reaffirming (we were in this process)
Probation (now we are here)
Suspension

its being blown out of proportion. I will probably end up serving on a few accreditation committees before my career in student affairs is over

Even if Tech lost its accreditation, the degree would still be worth plenty. Some employer isn't going to go "Well we'd hire you but Texas Tech apparently sucks so naaah."

Every music ed major out of tech in the past 20 years that has kept teaching, have pretty much paved the way in Texas for everyone....Tech degree in Music = win. On top of that, we have a damn good law and med school....so i don't care about the overall accreditation just the departmental.

when lucas was here, we had a very good trombone section in the goin' band. even for the couple years after he left, just because those guys were still there. it got to the point where the student body thought the trombone part in the fight song was the melody laugh.gif ....some still do i'm sure.

the trombone section isn't as strong anymore if you listen nowadays.

Tech programs remain accredited by 25 other such agencies, Whitmore said, and he had no concerns about what news of the probation so close to when college-bound high school seniors will decide which university to attend could do to next year's enrollment.

Bearden leaving has a LOT to do with everything going downhill.

edit: oh and impala, the trombone fireeater rank, the trumpet rank and woodwind rank were totally taken out by Anderson. now it's just one big block mad2.gif

as is the Addictive, Recovery and Treatment school (its a major in HS) one of the best in the country if not the best?
i dont know about HS in the broad term but a lot of majors under it are pretty high up there (hdfs, interior design etc)

yeah interior design is one of the top in the country. know a couple of girls that got ridiculous jobs in new york and california coming out of that program.

the addiction/recovery is probably the best. when i was there they kept getting money thrown at them.

the pfp program just got a shitton of money (like $4-6m) from some big financial company (i think ING) and they're supposed to be building a whole new "wing" on the HS building.

don't really know about the hdfs... everyone i know who graduated under that was either unemployed when they walked or was staying for a masters.

yeah... looking back, i should have stayed there for my masters in philosophy. I had several professors requesting me to join the grad program because of my writing...and the fact that I'm a girl (something their program needs more of). They were going to let me in conditionally before taking my GRE. I should have done it. Oh well. Maybe in the future, when I pay some loans down and finish this second degree Im working on now.

Dear Friends and Supporters:

On December 11, Texas Tech University was cited for insufficient reporting of
general education data by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(SACS), only one of the agency's 87 standards for accreditation.

Despite the unfortunate message this announcement sends to alumni, students and
friends like you, there was no fault found with the quality of any academic
program at Texas Tech University according to SACS.

I have personally spoken with Dr. Wheelan, President of SACS, and she assured
me that Texas Tech University remains in good standing with SACS and that she
is confident the reporting requirement will be satisfied at their next meeting
in December 2008.

I guarantee that Texas Tech University is not in jeopardy of losing accreditation
with this agency, or the more than 25 other accrediting agencies that presently
hold us in high standing. University officials and I are doing everything in our
power to rectify this situation, reaffirm your confidence in this fine institution
and protect its excellent reputation.

Respectfully,

Kent Hance
