I found this article about a new type of wal-mart they are testing in plano. It is going to have sushi and a coffee bar among other stuff.
any of you in dfw area been to this store? QUOTE By MARIA HALKIAS and JAKE BATSELL / The Dallas Morning News PLANO – From now on, Plano shoppers will have a lot to say about what Wal-Mart sells in its stores. The world's largest retailer today opens a first-of-its-kind "laboratory" store in this city, with the purpose of studying how to entice shoppers to consider Wal-Mart for more than everyday essentials. A more upscale Wal-Mart with a specialty-store attitude, it carries premium products and services not found at a typical Supercenter. John Menzer, vice chairman of Wal-Mart Stores USA, said the chain has put its best ideas inside this Supercenter, which is at the southeast corner of West Park Boulevard and Dallas Parkway. "Now we'll see what the customer thinks," he said Tuesday during a store tour. The 203,091-square-foot store has the chain's only sushi shop, more than 500 organic products and a wine department with more than 1,000 varieties ranging up to $500 a bottle. It features a Wi-Fi-ready Kicks Coffee Café at the front of the store and a kiosk in the meat department that prints recipes and shopping lists. Even the employees' aprons and vests have been replaced by a more polished navy polo and khaki uniform. Customer service will be available during peak hours from specialists in electronics and cosmetics. Bikes are assembled out in the open so that staffers can answer questions at the same time. About 1,500 premium items not sold in other Wal-Mart stores are being tested here, said Ryan Lincks, project manager and senior analyst for U.S. strategy for the retailer. The store doesn't sell fabric or guns and carries less fishing gear than a typical Wal-Mart. Instead, that space is now devoted to fitness equipment, kids' crafts, sporting goods, patio furniture and hot tubs. Automotive supply aisles are also smaller. "This customer doesn't work on the family's cars," Mr. Lincks said. Arkansas-based Wal-Mart has a history of trying new concepts in Dallas-Fort Worth. More recently, these have included 24-hour pharmacies and an environmentally friendly store in McKinney. The new Plano store has been shaped to fit the lifestyle of area residents, many of whom strongly opposed its construction. it'll still be a shithole and attract the kind of people that west plano doesn't want. plano tried to prevent that store for a couple of years.
and the traffic at park and the tollway is already atrocious, so it's going to increase tenfold. |

They said they would have specialists in the consumer electronics areas and some others, kinda like best buy or circuit city do. They're trying to build this thing around the concept that Best Buy does, fitting the store to the customer, not the other way around. They're gonna have all kinds of attractions for all the rich snobby people in plano -------------------- LANCE IS PRO-CENSORSHIP! HE IS CENSORING MY LOVE FOR THE LORD!

In another article I read, over 1200 types of wine and beer. I'm very curious to see how the beer prices are. Other than that...meh.

i think it opened today or yesterday. unforunately they moved all the staff from the park & preston location to this one, so it's already full of demotivated asshats. I've never seen stupider or ruder walmart employees than i have there.
apparently the whole thing is to make it similar to a Super Target... which the new walmart is located across the street from................. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

QUOTE (woody @ Mar 24 2006, 01:10 AM) plano is north of the south pole but south of the north pole just north of dallas. it's kinda odd, plano is more or less framed on all sides by a major highway. North side = 121 East side = 75 South side = George Bush (193) West Side = Tollway (Dallas Parkway) okay, so none of them are exact, but pretty much anything of note is within that lil box. -------------------- WAIT. cut n pasted from my "shit you bought" thread.
QUOTE (me) I cannot stand Fallout Boy and their shitty excuse for music. I'm very much more a Floyd/EITS/GY!BE/Doors/Soft Machine kinda guy. It's just not my kind of music. Anywhos, I was checking out the new WalMart in plano today, and lo and behold, Fallout Boy is appearing to sign CD's or some shit. After informing my sister of this fact, she texted me back saying that she wanted me to pick up and get signed one of their albums, so I proceed to stand in line with half a million teenage girls. Some of them were seriously CRYING. It was ghey. I finally get home and she informs me that she's totally gonna put it on eBay. No sir. I was doing this to be the nice big bro. If someone's selling that piece of shit, it's gonna be me. So anywhos, thats my story for the fallout boy cd, it is signed by all 4 members of the band. If anyone wants it, PM me and let me know, cuz it's going on eBay next chance I get. sum it up to say, falloutboy was there today :puke: -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
