I have a degree and a job. I suppose if I really wanted to stick this out I could make a 'career' out of this, but I really don't wanna have a career that has virtually nothing to do with what I went to school for.
I am gonna seriously see about going back to grad school for a petroleum engineering degree so I can actually work as a real engineer in this industry, heh ![]() -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

why is that sad? Well it's not sad that I'll have 4 degrees, but it's kinda silly that I've gone all over the place. I've attended: University of North Texas (1999-2001) Texas State University (2001-2003) Texas Tech University (2003-2005) University of New Mexico (2005-2006) And I'll probably be attending UT for my PhD eventually. -------------------- |

I like San Marcos and the campus is pretty, but the quality of education you get there varies widely by field.
I was there during the big stupid-assed debate over whether to change the name (from SWT) and that ticked me off. Not because I cared about the name of the school, but because I gathered documented evidence that some of their reasons for the name change were complete and utter BS. -------------------- |

Well a lot of their reasons were subjective, but there were two objective things that I checked out.
1) Claimed that lack of name recognition was the reason they weren't granted a chapter of some major national honor society. I contacted the society and found out that they hadn't applied for a chapter in something like 30 years. Reasons for turning them down included availability of library resources, number of scholarships given out, things like that. 2) They also claimed that lack of name recognition was the reason that they weren't listed as a Carnegie Foundation Tier 1 school. That I found was simply because they hadn't granted enough PhDs in the last reporting period. -------------------- |

I freakin love Texas State and would recommend it to anyone that loves hiking and rivers... and just a really beautiful campus set in the hill country. We don't have the city like atmosphere that UT has, and our campus is far more laid back.
And Jonathan: I went to CC in high school, dual credit and took courses in the summer. So technically, 3 colleges. Zach: I'm in the Poli Sci department here at Texas State. It really all depends on what you want to do with your masters degree. I've heard some really good things and some bad things. But the good by far outweigh the bad. All of the Poli Sci professors are AMAZING. I wouldn't trade any of them in for the world. |

God I can't wait to go back to school... Seconded. I've fucked myself because of my majors/activities. I'll never be happy unless I'm doing one of four things as my "job." 1.) MMA 2.) Upper level political science work 3.) Upper level history work 4.) Something involving the outdoors/nature So I'll be happy when I'm back in school seeking my PhD. -------------------- |

I want to go back to school but I don't know where to go. That's my problem...they're all out of state and they're so scattered that I dont know where to go. Although, top of my list is San Jose State...their MAT program has an education track so I can teach later. |

We even have buses that go from North and South Austin. Maybe things have improved since I lived there. I lived on Aquarena just east of the stadium and usually took the bus onto campus (took my bike a lot too, but it really just depended on where my first class was). There was always major traffic backup along Aquarena, then again at LBJ on the loop up to the student center. I think they may have made that bit of LBJ buses-only, though? The big problem there was people driving up and dropping people off. I also heard horror stories from commuters about how bad the parking was. -------------------- |

Parking isn't bad... students just don't want to park at Bobcat Stadium. I live off of Post Road and take the Post Road bus every day. My biggest issue with Auxiliary Services not informing students when bus stops close down |

UT sucks. Everyone there has a snobby attitude, and they dont like undergrads who are older. If you are in freshman classes you better be 18 or 19, etc. All the classes I took had all the notes posted online and there wasn't a single reason to attend class. The worst part was commuting to the school from anywhere except downtown. If you don't live downtown, don't go there, especially if you have classes from 8-10am or 3-5 because you will get assfucked in traffic.
Texas State is ok. I don't dislike the school. Teachers seem to care more here. I think I'm just tired of school. Plus, I don't like it when some grad student who finished his undergrad last semester is grading my papers. That would happen at any school, though. One more semester, and I'm done. Thank God. I think I'll just work for a year or two before I even think about grad school. I'll take the GRE now so that I get that out of the way, but unless I get some great scholarship where my tuition and fees are paid for and they give me a TA position so I can make some cash, I'm taking a break. I'm tired of school. |

A&M then? Fuck you. That isn't even something to joke about Seriously, I'd rather be degreeless, jobless, and homeless, than a fucking aggy You can always do courses by correspondence. Explain correspondence courses. I'm too lazy to research them. Basically, work at my own pace at night in my free time? If so I'm down for that. -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

oh and Texas State has a Round Rock campus.... they offer quite a few courses there. Since you live in North Austin, that's not too bad of a commute.
Fuck you. Most are not at your own pace....some are, but they still have to be done by a certain time.

Plus, I don't like it when some grad student who finished his undergrad last semester is grading my papers. Well hell, I was grading math papers and teaching physics labs when I was 17/18 at TX State. Then again, I've always been a bit of an academic oddball. -------------------- |

Basically, I know more than my Writing for Mass Media TA. He doesn't understand hyphen and comma rules so everytime he grades my papers I have to show him where he screws up.

I forgot about Round Rock. Thanks Jessica!
We do offer a wide array of courses at our RR campus, and correspondence are fairly within the leisure of your own time. You have 9 months to complete them, they're actually less expensive than courses that you have to sit in a class room for, you get all the materials. you just have to show up to campus every so often to take a proctored exam. |

Seconded. I've fucked myself because of my majors/activities. I'll never be happy unless I'm doing one of four things as my "job." 1.) MMA 2.) Upper level political science work 3.) Upper level history work 4.) Something involving the outdoors/nature So I'll be happy when I'm back in school seeking my PhD. ..... this sounds like a steven segal movie..... you can be a "in your face" kung-fu-savvy Yellowstone National park guide/game warden that has connections to the nitty gritty underhand politics of the area. -------------------- |

haha yeah... it's been a long month. sorry. I'm keeping it up. I need to find out if St. Mary's Law School has Spring Applicants, because I really don't want to be out of school for too long. i'm not 100% sure, but i think they only admit people in the fall. i might try to do the night program (a couple of years from now) because it will be mostly free... sucks though because they only admit like 70 people into that program |

Last I checked, Law School only starts in the Fall Semesters, so you would have to wait 'til the fall. You better get your LSAT done now, though.

TX State - BS in Physics TTU - BS in Mechanical Engineering UNM - MS in Mechanical Engineering Ok, so you have multiple degrees, can do differential and integral calculus in your hand whilst playing video games, and are going to get your PhD ..... Yet the numbers 3 and 4 confuse you ![]() -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

i am only applying to a few schools but i know i should apply to more. but at this point it feels like i would just be picking schools randomly -------------------- Little monkeys making money

How many PhDs out there claim their Bachelors & Masters as "2 other degrees"? Or are they all different majors or something? |

Ummm... they are all different degrees. Different diplomas = different degrees. Granted, only the highest one really matters, but still...

(ie. my dad doesnt have two degrees , he has a masters in engineering) -------------------- Little monkeys making money

*shrugs*
It doesn't really matter. I've always thought that different pieces of paper = different degrees, but like I said, only the highest one in a given subject area really matters. If I look at it your way, I have two degrees... a BS in Physics and an MS in ME. -------------------- |
