This two-year-old pit bull shows no signs of aggression, but it did on Sunday when it apparently sodomized a Lockport toddler.

Residents who live in the neighborhood where it happened are still talking about it.

One neighbor said, "You hear about dogs attacking children in horror films, but as far as in this community, it's never happened."

Police say the boy was sexually assaulted in his Washburn Street home by his family's two-year-old pit bull, who had been with them since it was a puppy.

Lockport Police Detective Captain Larry Eggert said, "A little boy was home with his family, and the family pit bull actually sodomized the boy."

Eggert told us the boy's family members and neighbors had to beat the dog to get it off the child.

Schultz: How serious are the child's injuries?

Eggert: He's had some surgeries to repair some pretty significant damage.

Animal advocates agree that this case is an unusual one. While pit bulls are notorious for being aggressive, they say it's not always true.

Al Chille is executive director of the SPCA in Niagara County.

Chille said, "I, personally, am against this idea of outlawing any specific breed of animal."

Schultz: What would trigger a family pet dog to attack like this?

Chille: One doesn't know, really. ... There could be some quirk in the brain of the dog. ... It could be the smell of the diaper or something. I don't know.

Police are bringing in a behavioral expert to help determine what triggered the sexual assault.

The boy's family wants the dog destroyed, but nothing will be done until the investigation is completed.

Chille said, "The intent, apparently, wasn't to hurt the child. ... My understanding is the child had no bites on him at all. ... I guess the message is be respectful of a dog, until you absolutely know the animal."

a friend I used to play with as a kid was maimed to critical condition by two pit bulls when I was in the 5th grade. It was back when LBK was bussing kids in different grades across towns to ghetto schools trying to integrate us, or some such liberal tripe.

anyway, that bus ride from the barrio delayed me getting home by 45 minutes...and I arrive to a strange scene of cops and whatnot...if I was at our normal school I would have been riding bikes with him and maybe have gotten it too.

if I ever see an unchained/unleashed pitbull, I will pop him dead faster than you can say DOG KILLER! I am not taking any chances with those fuckers.

Let's all remember that the novelty of having dogs as pets is a recent trend. Dogs for hundreds of years have been kept around to do work. Herding, guarding, sled pulling, assisting with hunting, killing. Some things have been hardwired into them, like pit bulls and terriers. They were bred to kill things. Obviously selective breeding has lowered the risk of crazy dogs, but tens of thousands of animals are abandoned because they've been improperly raised, socialized, or their natual instincts rule them.

Attacks by pit bulls accounted for about a third of the 238 fatal dog attacks in the United States during a 20-year study, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Pit bulls were blamed for killing 76 people, or 32 percent, during a study of dog attacks from 1979-1998, the study showed. Rottweilers were the second most deadly animal, reportedly killing 44 people, or 18.5 percent, during the same period.

yeah...unfortunately it happened in the past 4 years several times...but it was army SF (green beanies) that went to afganistan and lived with the norhtern alliance and assimilated with that tribal culture. they got home, their wives had cheated on them...which in that tribal culture is punishable by death.

I told her of a pit that killed the cats of my friend, who also happens to have kids, and she said that she should pop the dog off if he gets in her lawn...and just say he was on the attack. she doesn't have a gun nor would use it, so she told her to marinate a steak in anti freeze and leave it out for him.

amarillo alone has had several pit attacks in the past year.

I have a rottwieller, and i wouldn't be against a pitt. They are actually very good family dogs... When in a good family obviously.

With that being said, i hate the fucking idiots who let those two types of dogs roam unleashed, or don't put them behind a fence. They are natural gaurd dogs. They have property and they gaurd it. Of course brought up well they are fantastic dogs. But i think naturally someone not taking care of the dog by keeping an eye on it deserve to lose the dog.

As for shooting i'd say im against it unless the dog was naturally aggressive, or was ALWAYS roaming.

As for dogs sodomizing... i've got nothing.

Oh and you'd be surprised the amount of ex-military that kill when they come home. Im actually planning on researching a little more if i can to write a paper in law school about effects on military when they return home.
