Anyone getting one or know anyone who's getting one? People are putting them up for $25,000 starting bid on ebay. It's actually kinda funny to see all these professional looking people waiting in line for a cellphone.

Who the fuck wants an iPhone? Here's a list of stuff it DOESN'T HAVE.
1. Songs as Ringtones 2. Games 3. Any flash support 4. Instant Messaging 5. Picture messages (MMS) 6. Video recording 7. Voice recognition or voice dialing 8. Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming (A2DP) 9. One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones) 10. 3G (EV-DO/HSDPA) 11. GPS 12. A real keyboard 13. Removable battery 14. Expandable Storage 15. Direct iTunes Music Store Access (Over Wi-Fi or EDGE) http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/apple/what-the-...have-272571.php |

Yeah, but it's Apple, which means it's trendy, which means people will buy it even if it's not remotely the best product of its kind on the market. Exactly. Apple and the iPhone release is analogous to Sony and the PS3. Sony announced that they could release a total piece of shit that doesn't even play games, call it a PS3, and still sell millions because of fanbois. Apple is releasing a steaming pile of shit and all the fanbois are going crazy over it. Same scenario, different company/product. |

Apple is releasing a steaming pile of shit and all the fanbois are going crazy over it. Same scenario, different company/product. It's just because they're a lot better at marketing than they are at designing, I think. The ability to see full format web pages seems pretty awesome, but what's the point if you're not on 3G. Also, I have fat fingers, so you're trying to tell me I'm going to type out full emails on a tiny on-screen keyboard? I have the cingular 8525, and I like the sliding keyboard because I can type with both thumbs. The iPhone's design makes it seem as though you have to type everything out with one finger. I'll wait until I get my hands on one to pass final judgment, but I'm not excited over it like some. It kind of reminds me of the iPod: There were lots of MP3 players on the market at the time, and some of them were a lot better than iPods (I love my iRiver and the ability to drag and drop songs or data into FOLDERS) but iPods came out and were stripped down, defective models. But they sold like crazy because they were easy to use for people who didn't know what an MP3 player was, and they had a tremendous amount of advertisement behind them compared to other brands. -------------------- LANCE IS PRO-CENSORSHIP! punk bitches make you accept their cookie to view a video... no thanks.
what i mean though, is how is the thing going to determine which way you're looking at it? it's obvious if you're holding it at a 90 to the ground, but if it's flat on a table, how will it know which way to rotate the screen? |

As far as getting an iPhone, it looks cool but the fact that the camera doesn't have a zoom (basic phones with cameras do), you can't send picture messages, and that it uses the EDGE network are big negatives for me.
Usually, I use my Palm when I need the internet in places that don't have WiFi or I don't want to get out my laptop. So if I am in a cab and need to check-in for a flight, I use my Palm. This could be a painful process on the iPhone. As AT&T moves away from EDGE and starts upgrading their network and the phone gets revised, I may buy one. The simple fact is, it's a revolutionary phone. The touchscreen, the keyboard, and the sensors make it that and soon we'll see other devices using the iPhone as a benchmark. So, whether you like it or not, we'll soon see "clones" of it. Lance, I wholeheartedly agree with you about some of the issues, but for one, only a few people have played with the keyboard, and all of their reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Also, the expandable storage? Do you really need more than 8GB? What are you going to be doing on the phone, writing a novel? Apple has actually said that there are features it has not released yet, some of which may include songs as ringtones. Guess we won't know till Friday. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I don't think you see what I'm saying. If I take my iPhone out of my pocket and set it flat on a table, how does it know which way the screen should face? I know what you are saying. From what I've read, the default facing will be vertical until the accelerometer senses a change. This makes sense, as when you set something down on the table, you do it so that it faces you. You don't usually use a phone as it sits on a table unless you're using the speakerphone to talk to someone (in my experience). Movies and TV shows will always be shown in horizontal mode (as far as YouTube goes, I haven't found anything). -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Yeah, I'm not real confident in their ability to produce a good phone considering this link broke my browser (Firefox) then when I restored the session it told me that my Quicktime software is missing a component to show the video, and the component is not available on the Quicktime server. -------------------- LANCE IS PRO-CENSORSHIP! My current phone:
![]() I got this in 2002 and it still keeps on ticking (best receptions, coverage, etc... of any phone I've had with no problems whatsoever). I don't understand why everyone wants to pack so much shit into a mobile device. On an iPhone I would use: voice, text msg, and music. I couldn't imagine using any of the extras to justify the cost. Maybe if I lived in NYC and had a long commute I would use the video/web browsing features, idk. *shrug* -------------------- ![]() |

QUOTE Why didn’t Apple use AT&T’s faster 3G Internet network? Apple says that today’s relatively unpolished 3G (third generation) radio chips would drain the battery too fast  and at this point, wouldn’t provide enough of a speed boost to justify that trade-off. Apple will release a 3G iPhone model when the time seems right. lol "when the time is right". in other words, when the buzz wears off and they need to sell another one to the same people who bought the first one. |

I had that same sanyo phone that was posted for a long time, was an awesome phone until I accidentally smashed it on the ground.
as far as using more features... I like my pda phone a lot for the extra features, being able to browse to this site is huge for me. i also like the fact that it's an actual computer and I can put other nifty apps on it like novii remote (which I've used on tons of occasions to turn the volume up on TVs at the bar heh), media players (I've actually used it to watch full length movies on planes), and the ability to open office documents. It's way easier to send text messages because of the full qwerty slide out keyboard. having the ability to fully syncronize my outlook calendar & contacts with the phone, my home computer, and work computer is also a huge plus for me. If one of the computers or the phone takes a dump, I don't lose all my contacts and they simply get resynced. Plus, I can enter them all on my computer, along with people's picture and everything, rather than having to type them all into the phone by hand. I can connect to other computers or networks using bluetooth, wifi, or a USB cable. the nice large LCD touchscreen makes the interface easy to read and use. I will agree with you guys on the "well all i need to do is use the phone and send text messages". My PDA phone started out as a toy, but now that I've had it for about a year I now find all the features to be extremely useful and worth the small cost difference between it and a regular cell phone. |

Yeah, when you start using the PDAs and smartphones as such and not as status symbols, they end up being a great tool.
I use the camera on mine to grab shots of things when I'm not carrying a real camera, I don't listen to music on it, I use the calendar (a ton), and Google Maps on this thing is just like on the iPhone except you use a stylus ( i can call directly from the map) -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

that will pass... my parents have phones they got in 2001 and they look like bricks but people still comment on how "cool" they are because it's "oldskool" then people will ask you where you got that phone...and you can tell them you time traveled... That's funny...the nickname for my phone is "the brick" -------------------- ![]() |

Extremely since there probably won't be sell-out of the phones at most stores (and since you can pick them up at AT&T stores). I find the news coverage hilarious. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Is it true that you have to get some special data plan for the phone?

bought it.
the thing said 2-4 weeks but i'm sure it'll be here next week. i heard it projected on cnn that iphone would take over 12% of every cell phone that exists. thus 3 out of 25 people will have an iphone. seems crazy to me. initial response is looking good though. -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

I'm gonna head to the Apple store in a bit to play with the demo.
