Ok, not so much the majority of Democrats because they didn't vote for the bills, but the Democratic leadership needs to be shot for backing down on this.

Pisses me off, but I'm more interested in seeing the Senate vote on this bill.

They still get another shot at it in September and will be able to have more ammo if the current plan fails to produce results. I don't see any reason for you to panic and call it a loss. Call it a tactical retreat.

I know, but I wanna know *who* voted which way. Same in the House, actually. I'm curious about a few people there. Specifically, I want to know about the presidential candidates.

Found the House votes. As I figured, Ron Paul was one of the two Republicans who voted against the measure: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congres...se/1/votes/425/

I wonder how many of those no votes would be yes votes if they had the feeling the voting would've been closer. Maybe it wouldn't have changed anything, but I like to think they would've put aside politics of the war to provide financial support for the troops.

Ok, I'm back to reality.

There is such thing as losing a war. Since the invasion, the situation in Iraq has gotten progressively worse and worse. If the situation doesn't get any better within the next year or two, I would hasten to guess that it will never get better.

oh I agree. but if you tell your enemies you will withdraw on X date, they'll simply ride you out until then if they can.

The war is a lose-lose situation at this point. We stay, we lose; we leave, we lose. Might as well save our money and keep troops out of harm's way. Congress controls the money, but little else concerning the war at this point. Defunding the war is their only option for forcing us out of Iraq, and it's not like that goes into effect immediately, leaving our troops stranded or any BS like that.

yeah... that's what I meant when I said "I agree" after quoting your post retard.gif

But that is 1-2 years away. I still think it's extremely stupid to try to make policy which tells your enemy when you're withdrawing.

go ahead and explain the "we stay, we lose" part to me. and if we leave, everyone loses.

also explain to me why congress would have some reason to force us out of iraq by "defunding" the war. even your precious democrats voted to keep funding the war. which is hilarious to me, because all the anti-war activists feel all betrayed now laugh.gif reality is a bitch huh

It's pretty simple, really. We can't force them to have a nice, happy, rainbows and kittens democracy like we want them to have. They have to work things out for themselves. Being there keeps our occupation in their faces and aggravates those who want us to leave, spurring more violence. Meanwhile, we're dumping money and manpower into being there, primarily for the purpose of squelching violence that is halfway provoked by us being there in the first place (the other half being fighting between sunnis and shites because they're violent little bitches like that).

And "precious democrats"? You really need to get a better idea of who has what political leanings on this forum. I tend to vote about half-and-half Republican/Democrat, excepting a few independents here and there. My hands-down favorite candidate in the primaries right now is a Republican; unfortunately, he doesn't have a chance in hell of becoming their nominee.

of course we can force democracy on another country. did you ever see how happy those iraqis were when they got to vote? those that want us to leave are the ones who also want to take the country back and re-instate a saddam type dictatorship. do you think that'd be a better "loss" than staying there a while longer to try and stomp those people out and let the people get their freedom?

and that's all beside the fact that al queda is one of the primary sources of violence there now. even the some of the iraqi insurgent cells are siding with us in fighting them!

oh and yes I know you're not some strict democrat only person blah blah. that was more of a general statement. on a funny note:

I think it is funny that every other thread seems to eventually lead to a political discussion about the War in Iraq with the same people arguing the same exact points over again...

How long as this been going on, and has anyone actually switched their viewpoints because of what they've seen on techsans?
