Wow. I realize the people posting in that group are probably just a small sample of the Alaskan population, but considering its population size, I wonder if it's an accurate sample :-\ So much hate for another state so far away just doesn't make sense. The only state I've heard Texans make fun of was Oklahoma and even that was in good fun, not like what's coming from these people.

texans have the biggest ego about their state that i've ever seen. i could name off about a million reasons why texas sucks, but i think that this is what most people have a problem with. nobody cares if you're proud of where you're from, but texans might want to tone it down a bit, considering they're living in mexico's toilet. |

one of the main reasons texans are so proud is because of our history.

I consider myself one of the most hated people on the planet. Everyone hates the USA. Everyone in the USA hates Texas. Everyone in Texas hates people from Houston.
but yeah... F' Alaska. They're only big for the same reason the USSR was so big... because nobody f'n wanted all that shitty frozen land. And there aint a damn thing wrong with having state pride. Believe it or not, there is a difference between pride and ego. |

that says nothing about the best state economy.
and where are the lists for highest crime, most disgustingly obese people, pollution levels, lowest education, highest number of welfare recipients, worst drivers, most intolerance (religious, sexual, and racial)? all of those "best places" lists totally fucking cancel each other out. so houston and dallas have a shitload of violent and white-collar crime, but plano and sugarland are safe and happy? no way. you get all the city scum no matter where you live. |

I thought Texas had the largest state debt...or at least is in the top 5? Not even close, unless something changed drastically between now and 2004. There was a time when it was written into our state constitution to limit the amount of debt we could have, but either our constitution was amended (highly unlikely) or the state legislatures found loopholes. -------------------- Spam? It seems you harbor a lot of hatred and disrespect towards Texas. If this is the case, I respectfully request that you get the fuck out and don't come back. You can obtain your education from one of the "better" states so you will not have to be associated with Texas forever.

There was stuff all over the news about 2 years ago about how our state had like $6 billion in debt. Yeah. That's about what it is. $6 billion isn't that much for a state this large. For comparison, in 2004, California's state debt was $55 billion, Florida's $17 billion, Illinois $25 billion, Pennsylvania $9 billion, Ohio $9.9 Billion, New Jersey $25 billion, Michigan $6.9 billion, Georgia $7 billion, North Carolina $5.8 billion, and New York $48 billion. Out of all those states, we had the lowest per capita debt at only $237. The next closest per capita debt was North Carolina at $682. that says nothing about the best state economy. heh.. so forbes listing texas as the #2 best state for business doesn't say anything about the state's economy? "highest earning cities", "fastest job growth", "best places to live" lists don't say anything about the state's economy? and where are the lists for highest crime, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States...s_by_crime_rate For cities greater than 250,000 pop in 2005: 17. Dallas, TX (#9 in population) 18. Houston, TX (#4 in population) 41. Ft Worth, TX (#19 in population) 48. San Antonio, TX (#7 in population) so these cities are among the largest, however have much lower crime rates most disgustingly obese people, pollution levels, lowest education, highest number of welfare recipients, worst drivers, most intolerance (religious, sexual, and racial)? obese people - how would you rank this? BMI? so is this really one of your criteria for determining how "good" a state is? pollution levels - granted, cities like houston & dallas rank very high, but if pollution makes a state shitty, you'll have a hard time finding many states to put on your "good" list. lowest education - i'm not really sure how education is a quantity. state education spending? % graduation rates? colleges & their figures? perhaps you can enlighten us with some details on what makes texas a "shitty" state as far as education is concerned. worst drivers - this is completely opinion most intolerance - again, how exactly do you quantify this? all of those "best places" lists totally fucking cancel each other out. so houston and dallas have a shitload of violent and white-collar crime, but plano and sugarland are safe and happy? no way. you get all the city scum no matter where you live. well you've obviously never lived in a big city then, because that's exactly how it is. I work in Houston and live in a suburb (very simliar to sugarland). And yes, the pollution & crime in the suburbs is no where near that of the city. You get the best of both worlds, large nice houses in great communities for good prices, and the job growth and economic success of a major city. it's interesting to me how you talk about texas being so shitty, and ask for data on its economy, and then when I post the data you revert down to stuff like homo-tolerance and items you can't possibly quantify to compare to other states. it'd be great for you to go ahead and give some data to show just how shitty texas is, and which states are not "shitty" by your standards. am I saying Texas is the best hoo-rah get the fuck out? no (well i think it is but that's just my opinion). but by the numbers, texas is a damn good place to live, and is definitely not "shitty". just as an example, how are no texas cities (categorized by large and small metro ares) listed in the top 25 on this other forbes poll, the "best places for business and careers," when texas is the second best state for business? http://www.forbes.com/lists/2007/1/07bestp...reers_land.html maybe it shows that forbes isnt as good a source as we thought |

I dont really look at that...youre right. I was just commenting on state debt well lamont was right in a sense, i mean, you can go find data and rank any state in just about any position. but imho it's the quality of life and economics that matter most. but i suppose if what matters most to someone is homo-tolerance, texas probably isnt the best state |

I never said texas wasn't hated, or attempted to change that fact. I'm simply saying that, by standards that people use to determine a place to live, texas is a great place to live. so great, in fact, that people (such as yourself) who hate the place, live here!

i think this is blown out of proportion. i think most people in america just dont give a fuck. you really think people in kansas are posting on their messageboards going GODDAMN.... GODDAMN. ARGH TEXAS i am willing to bet not. the silly shit about the hate because bush is from here is so stupid i believe it must be a joke.
i like texas because its nearly always warm! screw having to "layer up". if i ever want to snowboard again i can take a vacation! thats what snow is for vacations i like texas because we have mountains, lakes (reservoirs so what KEVIN), forests, cool swamp land national parks (the one in houston is badass looking), coastline, plains, hills. we got everything put together. and it can still take more than a day to get there! BUT road trips in texas are fun because you see some crazy shit. and because texans have some inborn pride thing these towns of 10 people are less are hugely welcoming and always have some sort of museum or cool place to eat. TEXAS PEOPLE ARE NICE! (except east texas then just watch out - but every state has a part where they're like ehhhhhh) AND where else can you live in a huge city and can afford to be "poor" in comparison to many other states. Appalachia W. Virginia may be cheaper to live but having the hills have eyes who have never seen an "outsider" as a neighbor wouldnt be fun when i traveled a lot i knew shit tons of people that started moving around in texas and even more that wanted to see texasx. the hate here isnt a fair representation of whats out there -------------------- Little monkeys making money

I think lamont thinking there's a country-wide hatred of texas is distorted by both colorado and san diego.
there are an asston of annoying hicky-hick ass texans in san diego due to the abnormally high military presence there. and colorado hates us because we hick up their state by skiing and buying real estate. sounds like someone's having a case of the mondays... |

understand that a lot of the hate is actually complete and total ignorance
people i talk to outside of texas (mostly new england states and northern states) have asked me in the past if we actually have trees i ask them if they're joking they say no so it's people that have some kind of established view or understanding of what texas is that then base their hatred off of it... if you want a bad state to live in....go live in Louisiana or New Mexico....or maybe try Alabama. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. QUOTE it really is, though, I think you might be seriously delusional... most people either don't care, or think it's a novelty (like in NYC...native NYers dig texans). most people don't intrinsically hate texans...unless they live in san diego or colorado (like I already stated), and even then they don't hate us that bad, or I wouldn't have had surf buddies and girlfriends... QUOTE nor do they care or want to hear about it all the time. ANYONE who talks about other places and how cool they are all the time gets annoying. I don't think that is limited to texans... |

i think people should make it an effort to travel outside of their home state and see what other states are like and what the people are like before they get to pass judgement

so only two areas of the country dislike texas? isn't this group about alaska claiming superiority? Are you continually asking people if they have jobs because we are posting on here? Youre behind a computer too. Im sure there is something more constructive you could be doing....and aren't you like 30? you've got a job right (like i already asked)? nobody intrinsically hates anything. reading/watching the news just about takes care of that. fattest cities in america, worst violent crime rates, mexicans, george w, etc, etc... Texas: beautiful cities, wide range of landscapes and climates (mountains, hills, plains, subtropical, desert), good sports teams (at least in basketball), city life, country life, cultural diversity, (why the fuck would people look badly at Texas because of the President...), Florida has the worst violent crimes, fat people are everywhere not just in Houston, prestigious schools, yeah, not complete sentences. Dont care. |

you have to admit that we got the shitty end of the deal by being bordered with mexico
maybe some people hate the fact that we're letting mexicans flood into America and not really doing much about it -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

of course I have a job...and sometimes...when I feel real crazy...I actually have a few jobs and even do contract work!
what's my age and job status have to do with the price of tea in china...regarding this thread? ...contrary to what you may think, universities are not relegated only to kids straight out of high school. in fact, most graduate students are people who return to school after having been out a few years (i.e., me). and I was a 22yr old freshman to begin with. right now I am waiting on someone to get back to me on a project...have shit to do except await an email and an attachment... your attempted stab at...whatever...fails miserably... |

from wikipedia.org article on Texas QUOTE Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its use of ship channel at the Port of Houstonâ€â€the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.[6] The state is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies and has the second-largest economy in the United States.[7][8] The Texas Medical Center contains the world's largest concentration of research and healthcare institutions.[9] well i'll be damned! -------------------- ![]() |

and for the record, DFW is now the #4th largest metro area in the US. (Not Dallas, but DFW, and yes, it might as well be the same fucking city.) Yeah, that's cool. I just don't get why someone would stay in a place they don't like, be around people they don't like, do stuff they don't like, etc. The wonderful thing about this nation is that we have the freedom to change, within reason, the things we don't like by moving somewhere else, associating with different people, doing different things, etc. So why put up with it unless you're under some kind of contractual obligation to do so.

Texas is kick ass because of its awesome people, cities, things to do, economy, geographic regions, diversity... etc.
To call Texas "shit" is crazy. Dislike it... fine, but don't be stupid. Lets do it this way, name the states above Texas in "good" and i'll make up things that are my opinion, completely lacking in data, and claim you are simple minded.... yawn -------------------- |

Texas has good roads and nice people, minus places like Vider. Everyone has arrogance. I perfer the land of California but the people there suck. On that note I'm going there this weekend. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

yeah, I was well-received in London, but of course I was only 16 and 18 at the time, so people may have been being nice to me. I ate at the "Texas Embassy" or whatever it's called in london, now a restaurant, but formerly the actual Texas Embassy, back from when it was it's own country. Supposedly the best steakhouse in london, and shit, even just Texas Land And Cattle could grill the pants off those limeys. Britt's don't know steak for shit, but what with mad cow over there and all, I can't blame 'em. Ruth's Chris would be too much for 'em.
uh, back to the topic, the whole "cowboy thing" get's the ladies wet over there, whether you wear spurs or not. regardless of jingle-jangle-jingling. This post has been edited by zetec: May 8 2007, 05:31 AM -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

i've already decided long ago, that if i ever go to any asian country, i would force myself to wear more cowboy clothes. would also take several REAL pairs of wranglers, etc. and would sand the skol canister shape into the pocket of them.... i heard those bitches sell hardcore over there. heh. the hats ARE exceptionally comfortable though... considering taking up wearing them every day.

the only people i've come across internationally who haven't liked Texans were the Australians. and this is from several examples in different continents. i think it had to do with Bush, though. really? I found the aussies very hospitable. in fact a guy closed his shop one day just to take me and my buddy surfing. |
