ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A St. Louis legislator wants to require that baking soda be sold behind the pharmacy counter, as part of an effort aimed at a base ingredient in crack cocaine.

The proposal by Democratic Representative Talibdin El-Amin is modeled after a state law that requires some cold medicines to be placed behind the pharmacy counter because they contain ingredients used to make meth.

i like it.

eventually all i will have to do is walk up to a window with brands and items - they do the rest.

Honestly, the sudafed (sp) behind the counter thing made a little sense because it was already a drug, thus being behind counter wasn't that big of a deal. So taking a medicine that is abused for other things and making a little harder to get is understandable.

But baking soda is kind of redicustupid.

Agreed. The sudafed thing is a bit annoying, but not too ridiculous. Restricting baking soda, though, is just f'ing nuts.

personally, i feel it's an individuals choice if they use drugs..

the problem as i see it is that america keeps trying to childproof it's self against these people. personally, i feel that if you're dumb enough to fuck yourself, you deserve it. we should stop pampering people who make mistakes, get rid of governmental help. you made your bed, now lie in it. used too many drugs and burned yourself out to where you have to work at burger king all your life? tough shit. got caught selling illegal shit and put in jail, and can't get a job now? tough shit. don't have a job, 4 kids, and you are single and dropped out of high school? tough shit, you made the decisions to cause it, now you deal with it. we take your kids, but you gotta pick yourself back up.

i'm tired of america trying to baby the ignorant and irresponsible. not everyone can be an astronaut. quit bitching about how your life sucks, you made the decisions to cause all of it.

*NEWSFLASH*

Obese people around the country are denied treatment for diabetes and heart disease because they were "ignorant and irresponsible" when they ate those cheeseburgers.

AIDS patients are denied medication because the government is tired of "pampering" these people. "They slept around and shot up drugs, they got what they deserved!"

*end of newsflash*

In response to your last sentence, while decisions do play a part in how ones life turns out there are other factors to consider such as socio/economic background, mental/physical health, etc. Some people are limited by the cards that were dealt.

Drugs cause peson to become addicted, person spends everything on drugs, person kills so he can get more drugs, person goes to jail where we pay for his life behind bars...

Or help take horrible drugs off the street to protect innocents and our tax money.

Nothing is black and white, and some drugs should NOT be legalized, and should be fought against.

Is taking baking soda off the shelves a good way... i'd say no. But we still need to try and protect society against these drugs.

They don't help our economy per se but they don't hurt it. It would help the Gov. even more if they legalized marijuana and taxed it.
