The movie is fanfuckingtastic. Frank Miller does it again.
The dialogue was taken directly out of the graphic novel as were most of the action scenes. It's a perfect adaptation. This movie is not meant to be historically accurate and not in the same class as sin city. It's an embilleshment of the 300 legend. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

well... the spartan solder has to be at least a level 6 fighter, because they were attacking twice for every attack the enemy threw at them..... their physique gives the impression of a strength 18, dex 16, and a charisma of at least 15...... they are weilding Spears of Peircing, armor ment nothing to those weapons... and the enemys attacks were almost always off target... leading me to believe that all of these soldiers had Cloaks of Displacement (major). and we can't forget the +3 Leather Man-Panties

the spartans were laconic in their rhetoric. laconia...and all... Ay. Aren't the lines about finding soil and water in a well, if you want our weapons come get them, we'll fight in the shade etc all from written accounts of the events ? They were raised to talk directly and to the point, with more focus on battle and war etc than art and literature. Or so they say !!@!! -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

satyrs aren't necessarily a derailment. i haven't seen the film, but "historical" and "mythological" are pretty interchangeable when it comes to history of this nature. greek and roman history are based on myth.

This is what I was trying to get at... The story itself is steeped in mythology. People don't know how many each side had. People don't know much about the battle other than hearsay, really. The story itself was exaggerated without Miller's touch. He just made it more so. -------------------- ![]() |

I realize it was artistic embellishment by Frank Miller, which is why i am still considering it a good film. That creature you mention is one of the common representations of gluttony. I'm actually very much surprised at the opposing reactiong to this film. A lot of people love it. A lot of people hate it. Some say it has political implications when Frank Miller and Snyder claim that was not the intention. People have to realize this is Frank Miller's ARTISTIC representation of the legend of the 300. This is by no means supposed to be a historic retelling of the event nor an accurate portrayal of Spartans and Persians. You were supposed to hate the Persians in the story and so they were created as a demonic horde. It's the fact that people take things way too seriously and can't differentiate between a piece of artwork and reality. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. (i'm refering to the part where they talked about freedom not being free, that it had to be paid for with blood, and how america is bitching because we've lost a mere few thousand troops across seas and are bitching like we never should have lost one) -------------------- |

They were raised to talk directly and to the point, with more focus on battle and war etc than art and literature. Or so they say !!@!! to the outsider, yes. but unlike the other greek societies they educated their women. they were smart in their own right, but yeah they didn't dick around in the commons and discuss philosophy and their history is passed down verbally. I haven't seen it, but have watched the commercials and stuff on youtube, and there are several historic lines taken directly from the accounts of the battle (the 'fight in the shade' one you mentioned). the one where Leo says 'tonight we dine in hades!' is another. and I don't know if they showed Leo's wife bidding him farewell, but spartan wives coined the saying, "come back with your shield, or upon it" when their husbands head off to war. I only know this crap because we studied laconic wit as a device in a lit. criticism class at NYU and the prof was all up sparta's ass for that section...considering they invented it. |

The movie had no character development. You're supposed to feel something when characters die, or when they triumph, but for me it was more like "Oh look.... king whatshisface died. That silly Spartan."
I don't think this movie provoked a single emotion for me in 2 hours. The cinematography is cool, but there is absolutely no development in this movie. It blows donkey dick. |

They need MORE movies with full frontal male nudity, in my opinion.
Actually, I LOVE John Cameron Mitchell, and we went and saw Shortbus....OMG, ITS FUCKING PORN! Not like Cinemax porn....its FULL ON PORN! The opening is a guy jerking off...and we saw this in a REGULAR movie theater...not a dirty porno theater LOL |

it's not homophobic at all. it's normal to not want to see things you don't like.
I don't care to see pics of gore or movies with it. likewise, I don't care to see movies or pics of nude guys. I've seen enough real-life carnage and swingin dicks all showering together in the squadbay to last me a lifetime. duane would have been in heaven... |

i understand that you may not want any male nudity in movies and such, but what about those of us who could care less to see all the tits and muff that Hollywood has to offer? Trust me...we get A LOT more of that than you do nude men.
Maybe that makes me heterophobic... on that similar note, i went to the gay bar last night (in Houston) and good lord were there a ton of straight couples....WTF |

I was gonna use gays growing irritated with straight couples in "their" establishment of another example of the above. my chicks works at this rad sushi joint in oaklawn and oh shit do they hate when I show up and she and I hang out down there. like these dudes are seriously butthurt that we're hanging out in "their" scene. I could care less if gay dudes hang out where I am. as long as they're not mugging down; but that goes for straight couples too. keep that PDA shit away from me. |

I think it's funny when straight people venture over...let them have a little taste of the 'other side'
Although you don't find many straight couples stumbling across gay bars like The Ripcord (Houston) and The Eagle (Dallas)...those ones might be a bit too disturbing. It may also have been because last night was karaoke night...usually there are some decent folks singing, but last night there werent many. I have no complaints, because I've never had any problems with straight folks while they're in the gay bars. EDIT: do you really refer to her as your "chick" in person? |

Now that we are off of the Gay Bars...
Seen the movie, pretty good. Action kicked ass, historic accuracy was minimal, but i thought the plot was actually better that what i had been hearing about it. I'll buy it when i comes out. Now back to gay talk: i seen Borat the day after, i'd rather see the nudity in 300 than in Borat any day... -------------------- |

i don't care if it's homophobic, i don't like to see naked men in a movie. or anywhere for that matter. It's ok. You've said your line so people won't think you're gay. Now you can go back to jerking off to gay porn. no I understand about the amount of T&A everywhere. it doesn't only bother you, it bothers mommys and wives everywhere...trust me. Actually, the thing is that it doesn't really bother me to see T&A in movies. If I can tolerate seeing naked chicks in an otherwise good movie without acting scarred for life, straight guys can put up with spartans in codpieces in one movie. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! The movie lacked plot and was propaganda. The west vs. the persians.

It wasn't really expecting anything great from the plot or dialogue of the movie. The movie is based off of a Frank Miller book. Everything he does is just good looking and fun to read. I enjoyed it though.

Iranians are ethnically persian
I was not serious about the propaganda comment per se. I just found it some what interesting that this movie was released at the same time that American rhetoric was building against Iran. ummm, The persian army did have elephants -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The Iranians don't get that the American government doesn't want to turn their country into a parking lot because they are ethnically Persian. The United States wants to make glass Iran's principle export because they're asstacularly insane.
America has a similar attitude towards North Korea for the same reason, yet they're "little yeller fellers." |

It was also a joke.... per se? And i still don't get the iranian thing... its not like the bush administration put this movie out. Its a classic battle where they could give us gore and nudity, perfect for a movie. -------------------- |

Funny how an ancient historical event represented in a current day movie is automatically propoganda.
What you should be worried about is the fact that we're still hostile with each other even from ancient greek times. I wouldn't expect anyone to think about that. It's always America's fault because we're the big boy. It could never be that the Middle East is full of a bunch of suicidal douchebags. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good.
