i got my new TV and an Xbox 360 smile.gif

not tryin to argue... but you'd finance something $20k-150k or so, but not 1-3k (at 0% for 3 years no less)?

Maybe in a few years, when I'm on more of what I'd call a career path, I'd consider it, but as it is, at the moment I don't trust myself enough to make consistent payments on anything that I don't deem essential, especially when my current pay is based partially on tips. I'd rather pay for something like electronics all up front.

By the same token though, I need a new TV _really_ badly...

oh yeah i understand... it's insta-financial-crisis if you can't pay the thing off in the alotted time or miss a payment. all accrued interest gets tacked on and your interest rate goes up to like 20%.

oh and another tidbit on the deal, you only have to have $999 in the home theater dept, so it can be TVs, recievers, DVD players, speakers, cable, etc, THEN you can tack on whatever else you want. i went and grabbed a xbox 360 and a couple games and it was tacked on to the no interest deal as well.

here's the TV i snagged (out of stock but I should get it delivered by 12/18)
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1138085317167 (was already on sale for $2499 from $2799) I did my research and this sucker is a badass.

i used to work at a best buy a long long time ago, so i know the insane markups on cables, but this is getting f'n ridiculous.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1142301233713

don't ever buy cables from best buy unless you get them on the employee discount.

what the FUCK

that cable is insane.

granted, 35 feet with a high-def signal on cutting edge HDMI would need some serious shielding and whatnot, and that's about as far as it's gonna go without any signal degredation (maybe 50 feet, iunno much bout HDMI signals), but DAMN. I could buy a cheap TV for that much.

Monster does make good cables, nobody can deny that, but they've always had a ridiculous markup. They're the cables you buy if you're building a home theater for someone else. And they're footing the bill.

yeah, when i worked there, just before i left i bought a ton of monster cable. the total at the register was about $650, after employee discount (which is 5% above cost) my total was like $95.

first off, if samsung cant make a lower end tv without fucking it up, ill hardly trust their higher end shit. plus, i hear a lot of samsung horror stories.

additionally, pioneer's plasma tvs are the best that are out there. when plasma's first came out, pioneers were the only ones that you could take into the mountains (or any high elevation) without the inner core bursting.

Pioneers are beautiful. Yeah, i would rather have the $7k tv, but i would still buy a pioneer over any other brand any day.

Although comparing a dlp with a plasma is like comparing apples and oranges.

DLP: Mitsubishi
LCD: LG
plasma: Pioneer
those are the brands I would go with.

plasmas = suck- they're huge, heavy, hot, can burn in, overpriced
LCDs = awesome but overpriced and cant get em as big as others
DLP = the shit, decent price, can get giant sizes, awesome features, no burn in ever

right now the DLP title is arguably between three different brands- Sony SXRD, Samsung, & Toshiba

there's no reason a spool of CAT5 should cost that much... something fishy there.

edit: i'm told samsungs are bad for gaming, real lag problems, even for non-bemani games (ie, DDR, Guitar Hero, Beatmania)

from a bemani forum i'm on. a bunch of them work for CC/BB as well, but mostly they know that shit because they're all hardcore about their scores n shit.

side note though, lots of newer games have a HD/progressive scan calibration thingie now, Guitar Hero II is the only one I know of so far, but it's pretty much on the way to becoming standard.

heh... i worked at a best buy man... i know how the training and product knowledge works. the training consists of, "here's how to sell the most monster cable with their TV purchase" (i was in computers so my training was "here's how to convince the customer they need the 16' gold belkin printer cable that costs more than the printer itself"). working at best buy or circuit city doesn't imply any knowledge of electronics. i've overheard stuff that made me want to throw up both while working there and browsing as a customer. i don't blame the employees though, i blame the management and corporate of these companies, because they're the ones that trickle down the information. and don't get me wrong there's definitely some smart people working at best buy, but they didn't get their knowledge from working there.

if you want to get to the people that know what they're talking about go read sound & vision magazine (and/or forums) or go to http://www.avsforum.com

i'm not tryin to be mean or anything, there's honestly awesome info from those two sources... and terrible info from BB & CC.

I hate to tell you this but you are soarly misinformed

Plasmas are NOT heavy. In fact, they are very light. I could lift a 50" plasma by myself. Huge? Umm they are flat panel... DLP's are huge. They are hot, ill give you that. burn in? dont be a retard and leave your tv on for 2 days straight....cuz thats how long it takes. overpriced? they have come down in price significantly. Plasma technology has advanced a lot in the past 2 years. Whereas the average lifespan of a plasma used to be 5 years...its now 10-12. The best LCD tv is no way as near as nice as a pioneer plasma. End of discussion. If you think differently, then you are retarded.

a 50-inch plasma weighs about 100-150lbs. that's not light. not as heavy as a CRT at that size, but heavier than an LCD. 50-inch LCDs range from about 50-85lbs.

i checked on amazon, so don't say i'm also an idiot who is soarly[sic] misinformed.

Also, people who watch channels like MSN or CNN or any station with a ticker (news stations) are prone to having the ticker burnt-in even with regular usage. As far as DLPs go, there's a new type of DLP that doesn't use a color wheel (eliminated the size, as well as some tracing problems). And yes, plasmas are still overpriced. Cheaper than they used to be doesn't mean that it's appropriately priced.

and 10 years for a tv's lifespan is bullshit, when I buy a tv i plan on keeping it until i physically break it, or holodecks become practical.

and don't call people names for having differing opinons on hot technology. if everybody had to have the same opinion, AVSforum wouldn't even exist. and shit, it's just a tv, cool down. sad.gif

and I checked on best buy before I posted and most everyone that I saw weighed less than a 100. The 60" pioneer weighed 112. Im sorry you pussy asses cant lift that. Additionally, most tv's these days dont last over ten years regardless of the type.

And shut the fuck up, Zetec with your holy attitude. I know that I have had just about enough of your bullshit on these forums (ie closing threads because people insult each other). You act like a douche to people on here too and then act all righteous in here cuz youre a mod (*cough*when you pointed the finger at Jonathan for no reason *cough*). You dont see me closing topics in LRAR because someone talks shit to me. Go ahead, move this. I dare you. I'll make it my personal vendetta to insult the shit out of you for the whopping ten minutes that I get on here everyday.

your precious pioneer 50" plasma weighs 75 lbs. i'd love to watch you lift a 75 lb dead weight that's 48"x30"x4.5" by yourself.

yeah, huge where it counts. screen size

QUOTE (Jessica @ Dec 6 2006, 07:13 PM) *

like zetec said stock/sports tickers and such will do it, but the worst are actually the network logos. and i didn't say plasmas easily burn in, i just said they can. DLPs & LCDs cannot burn in.

QUOTE (Jessica @ Dec 6 2006, 07:13 PM) *
overpriced? they have come down in price significantly.

haha yeah they've come down in price significantly because they used to cost f'n $10,000. lets just do a quick compare on my "soarly misinformed" recent TV purchase and your electronics genius suggestion (Samsung HL-S6187 vs Pioneer PDP-4271HD)

Screen size:
Samsung: 61"
Pioneer: 42"

TV size:
Samsung: 38"t x 55"w x 17"d x 81lbs
Pioneer: 26"t x 40"w x 4.5"d x 63lbs

Maximum resolution:
Samsung: 1920x1080
Pioneer: 1024x768

inputs:
Samsung: 2xHDMI (one DVI), 2xComponent, 2xS-Video, 2xComposite, 2xRF
Pioneer: 2xHDMI, 0 component??, 2xS-Video, 3xComposite, 2xRF (i'm not sure if this is right, but it's straight off pioneer's website.. /shrug enjoy buying a new dvd player)

price (best buy):
Samsung: $2399.99
Pioneer: $2519.99

so for $120 more, you get nearly 20" less screen, the resolution of a $150 LCD computer monitor, and an extra couple square feet and 18 lbs of room to put stuff on the tv stand (tv stand space is such a huge problem nowadays). unless you plan to mount the plasma on the wall, in which case, enjoy the $400 wall mount and hope you have studs where you want your TV smile.gif

howso? what display technology hasn't advanced a lot in the past 2 years?

Whereas the average lifespan of a plasma used to be 5 years...its now 10-12.

if you still have a TV manufactured in 2006 10-12 years from now you'll be in the stone age

QUOTE (Jessica @ Dec 6 2006, 07:13 PM) *
The best LCD tv is no way as near as nice as a pioneer plasma.

you keep saying this but don't ever seem to say why. and whats w/the pioneer blowjobs? pioneer is good for two things (both car audio): 6x9s and head units

Psh, why the hell is anyone paying attention to a chick's opinion on electronics anyhow? That's like me arguing about drapes or something.

Anyways, DLPs ftw.

and I checked on best buy before I posted and most everyone that I saw weighed less than a 100.

I dare you. I'll make it my personal vendetta to insult the shit out of you for the whopping ten minutes that I get on here everyday.

jesus christ lady, quit crying because impala just owned you. what the hell is wrong with you, screaming at people and throwing insults around over a goddamn tv thread. seriously, you talk about mod responsibilities, then you fly off the handle and start crying over fucking televisions. whatever's up your ass, try squatting and maybe it'll fall out.

as far as mod responsibilities go, by the way, tell me, what exactly does a mod of LRAR even do?

Impala hardly owned me. If anything, its a matter of personal preference. Just because I dont respond for 20 hours, doesnt mean that I have been owned. Plasma's picture just looks prettier, at least the Pioneer. I know I harp on it, but its by far the best tv I have ever seen. You can call me an idiot all day for being a girl and commenting, but if I gave two shits about what anyone on here thought, I wouldnt post. I can tell you this plainly and clearly, if I was a mod of this forum, I wouldnt go around closing and moving threads because of arguing. Its all discussion and should therefore be treated as such. Go look at every mod thread... I have been in support of limited mod intervention all along. Crying, Screaming, Flying off the handle? Haha, hardly. I had a smile on my face while I posted that. You are a pathetic douchebag and I have no problem saying that proudly. You insult people for no reason all over techsans and then youre OH SO SWEET AND CARING LIKE MOTHER THERESA in here. Let me say this in your godly terms: Thou shalt stop acting like a pathetic douche in thine thread that thee modeth.

And by the way, I can lift 75 pounds of dead weight, Impala. Yeah, your DLP's are only like 15 pounds lighter. I really dont see that as a big difference.

exactly... not much difference, except about 20% more screen space for roughly the same weight smile.gif

jessica i don't understand why you're the one getting all defensive... i posted a link to the tv i bought and you had to toss in a "i would never buy that i'd get this cause i'm teh all knowing".

rocky summed it up pretty well i thought.

honestly i don't care what TV you like the best, but if we're gonna discuss it and debate it, you gotta explain your views... otherwise it's pointless. throw down some specs or something... tell us your reasoning why you'd spend the $2500 on the pioneer 42" plasma over the samsung 61" dlp (or even why you're pimping the pioneer TVs in general as "the best"). all i'm trying to do is understand your reasoning, and "because it just looks prettier" just makes you look even less informed in your decision.

exactly! She's claims she's not going off on a tear, but she's the one that's calling people douchebags and claiming to be the Audio/Visual goddess. Oh be fearful her wrath, she'll cuss at you and call you names, be there a disagreement amongst ye!

Jessica, it's pretty obvious why nobody is taking your posts seriously in this thread (or many others): You treat every other poster like crap and pretend to know everything about anything. Maybe if you tried having a reasonable discussion, like, i don't know, maybe an adult, people might actually take what you say with some shred of credibility.

Honestly, have you seen anyone else calling each other names in this thread over some silly televisions? Don't you think you're getting a bit too worked up over this? It's just silly. You claim that you've posted all that with a smile, but that's not how it reads, ma'am. I don't know many people that spout all the insults you have with a smile, at least not people that aren't diagnosed with Turret's Syndrome or Schizophrenia.

Just grow up and try civilized discourse for once, maybe people will take you seriously.

edit:
QUOTE (Jessica)

Um, see that strikes me as odd. It would occur to me that if you didn't care about what we thought, then why even bother posting in the first place. Or replying. Five times. Or even registering an account. It seems to me like you do care... If you didn't, you would have quit this stupid argument a long time ago, and saved everybody all the grief.

edit again: Oh, and please, provide me with an example of me inulting someone all over the place like you claim. The only incidents that come to my mind was when I mistaked Jonathon83 for John6.7, who's had a beef with me for a long time for some reason that he's never explained to me (I apologized to Jonathon, by the way. Something I've never seen you or will do. There's that acting like an adult thing again. You should try it sometime.), I called Impala names in that microsoft\apple thread a long time ago, but that was pretty much a hate-fest by all parties involved, and I think we're on decent terms at the moment. Aside from those two incidents, the only other people that I have insulted would be you and Will, and I defy you to find an incident where you two didn't provoke it by tossing out the first round of insults. Go check that alcohol thread if you need an example of that. And you know what, I'm not even bothering insulting you guys back anymore, because you aren't even worth it. You both go tearing across the forums calling anyone that doesn't agree with your ideas stupid, retarded, and a slew of curse words, and it only serves to make yourselves look like arrogant close-minded fools. You two must be soulmates. So, once again, if you have a recent link to me insulting people out of the blue for no reason that I haven't already addressed, please, post it. As to why you decided to bring up mod responsibilities in a television thread (actually it wasn't even about that, but I think that's the new topic), I'm lost. It seems like you're just grasping for straws, just like the rest of your arguments. Go watch your plasma, it's just prettier than this forum, and it doesn't care what names you call it.

see, heres a thing about women. they catalouge everything you have ever done to hold it against you.

so, using said womanlogic, you always insult people, always are a stoner, always etc.

you forget her birthday one year, then after twenty consecutive years of not missing a birthday she is still going to wonder if you will forget again and drop hints.

Thanks for the incredibly long and boring lecture that I wont read. Panties in a wad?

Youre still a douche, Zetec and Im waiting for you to close this thread for no apparent reason.

In other news:

I like your tv, Impala. I wasnt saying that I didnt. I was just showing that the Pioneer 42 inch plasma cost about $100 more and thats what I would go with even though its smaller. I really wasnt picking on you. I am excited for you and somewhat jealous....ok, really jealous! You are probably right that I couldnt lift something that bulky by myself because my arms arent long enough, but the same would be true of the DLP. Either way, congrats on the new tv. Just thought I would clarify that you were never my "target" like Zetec seems to have thought therefore chiming in with his incredibly useless and boring posts. I was just trying to make some discussion.

oh and on this note:

I didnt mean that comment like I do when Im posting in the sports forums that I would rather Florida win the National Championship because they have prettier colors. I joke around in there to annoy you guys.

In this case, I meant "prettier" in a more intelligent fashion. To me, the picture quality is very important. I should have clarified that the PICTURE is prettier and not the unit as a whole.

See what I mean?

wow what the hell happened in here?

People arguing about tv preferences...

I got a 42 inch plasma because
A: took up less space so i could move it in my car
B: weighed 95lbs which i can move on my own (not fun, but can do it)
C: Looked crisper than any kind of DLP or projection tv
D: LCDs didn't come very big very cheap
E: viewing angles on plasmas are amazing
F: i got it cheap

But honestly they all have down sides, its all about what a person wants. DLPs look awesome, but seems like the viewing angles still weren't good, but hell when is that much of an issue?

anyway, funniest thread in a while, keep it up !!

Just for the record, im not sure you can take the "high road" and call someone elses "route" a bitch route at the same time... might be in the by-laws.

for clarification's sake, she called me the bitch, i implied that Jessica was the one acting in the manner that she seems to think personifies myself, however inaccurate she may be smile.gif

It was a little worried that phrase might cause that exact kind of confusion blush.gif

This is what we call taking the high road; I believe the bitch route is the path you're on.

I almost bought that exact same one. What are you using to extend your taskbar? Is that an app or some registry hack?
