I don't see the point in getting drunk. I got drunk once and didn't think much of it... getting buzzed felt good, but getting to the point of "drunk" just kinda felt meh. I mean, you gradually lose control of your inhibitions (sometimes a good thing, admittedly) and motor functions and you often end up feeling like crap in the morning, even if you DIDN'T do something you regret.

Discuss.

Yeah, I mainly mean getting wasted. Some people go out looking to get wasted every weekend (or worse, every night) and I just don't get it. Seems like a waste of money, time, and brain cells.

I think it depends on your intention and state of mind.

regular every day fun/partying...having a few beers and maybe a couple shots and loosening up is all I want.

but if you're in a truly fucked up situation...drinking to oblivion is temporary solace from the pain. thinking too much about stressing out or getting wholly depressed can be worse for someone like me than just drinking a bottle of gin.

not the healthiest way to deal with shit...and I don't recommend it to anyone, because it can be habit forming. not me personally because I don't like being wasted all the time, but I'm certain that's how alchoholics are created.

but I have done it a few times in the past and it worked to get me over the barbed-wire hurdle.

to clarify...I think getting wasted is overrated for partying, but is a viable source of self-therapy.

getting drunk 5 days a week is over-rated. getting puking drunk and vomiting all over yourself is over-rated. getting drunk whilst trying to out-drink your friends is over-rated....

I don't know sad.gif

At parties I tend to drink a lot more than I should but I usually have fun, if I'm "social drinking" I don't usually get too terribly smashed.

I shouldn't drink at all, but I guess everyone's got a vice with something sad.gif

I dunno, I figure drinking 1 day a week whilst in college probably isn't that horrible....

It's because it makes you cool and everyone thinks you're awesome when you drink. OMG you're such a rebel for getting drunk. Same with smoking pot. Not to get off topic but smoking pot is the most overrated thing on the face of this earth. Nothing is better when you're high and if another person asks me if I want to get high before doing something because it'll be so much better I'm going to punch them, monster run on sentence.

so this thread title should be called "is being an alcoholic overrated" then yes it is

drinking even to the point of being drunk every once in awhile isnt over rated. if you are mature enough to drink there so be it

getting drunk isn't something that can be over or underrated....it just isn't. if you're asking if it's stupid, yeah in a sense it is - especially people who feel the need to drink to have fun (i'm just as guilty of this as everyone else)

by the way, i lost my contact last night when i was drunk. some time in between opening my liter of shit vodka and when i went to take my contacts out before bed.....i have no idea where the hell it went or how it escaped from my eyeball. suckage. in 13 years of wearing contacts i've never had this happen

i don't like potheads really

i tell my friend jeremy do NOT bring drugs over to my apartment, period. of course, half an hour after he comes over he asks if he can smoke in my bathroom. no, fuckwad. then he asks if he can smoke on my balcony. NO, FUCKWAD. then he asks if he can go down by my truck and smoke weed. NO, FUCKWAD.

i don't get it. when i come to someone's house i've never been before, i'll always ask if it's ok if i bring beer, even though i'm of age. it's a respect thing. potheads waltz into anyone's house with their illegal substances and immediately ask where the can toke up. go away, assholes.

smoking pot is stupid....i don't care if it's casual or you're addicted to it...your body still suffers the effects....

you lose things, you forget things, your mind wanders and you can't focus.....all for a short out of body experience....

NO THANKS

Getting trashed is only stupid if not in a social party situation.

It's perfectly fine to get wasted and pass out on your friend's floor after a huge party. Who are you hurting? What's the difference to someone else?

Buzzing is perfectly ok too. That's the best part of drinking alcohol. Past that point you've probably over done it but it's once in a month or two that you get to do it.

The liver can regenerate. If you drink and get wasted at a once a month party. You're fine.

If you drink alcohol everyday, you're fucked.

Pot is different. You're head still gets fucked up even if you smoke it occasionally.

Broad over generalization. I don't like to be high around people who dont smoke. And I would never bring pot over to someones house who does not like it.

Pot is not physically addictive, only psychologically addictive unlike alcohol which is both.

Pot is not physically addictive? What kind of crap is that?

So you smoke pot for what reason? Obviously to get high....there's the physical addictiveness.

It's psychological if you tell yourself you're not going to do it anymore and that night you smoke pot.

Alcohol is the exact same way. The effects on the body are minor when done in moderation.
Pot fucks you over regardless of how much you moderate it. Tpically, people who smoke pot become chain smokers. They'll smoke packs of cigs a day.

Does Jenna smoke packs of cigs a day?

I KNOW physical addiction. I am physically addicted to caffiene and tobacco. When I got a few days without them I get headaches, and other adverse effects. Phsycological addiction is when I have not smoked pot for a few days and I think to myself "damn I have not smoked pot in awhile, I am bored. i wish I had some pot"

Have you ever smoked pot or done any research? If you have not then I will suggest you shut up because I have an exstensive knowledge of all things drugs and exactly how addictive they are both from research and personal experience. Things like Meth and cocaine are HIGHLY physically addicitve, but marijuana is not. The only bad things about pot are being lazy, eating a whole bag of fritos, possible lung cancer (which I would get regardless) and some cognitive side effects which go away when you quit smoking for an extended period.

QUOTE
Nicotine, the active ingredient in tobacco smoke, has long
been known to be highly addictive. In fact, doctors and
pharmacologists are not in consensus as to which is more addictive
-- nicotine, or heroin. Physical addiction occurs when a chemical
becomes essential for the body or metabolism to function. In other
words, a substance is said to be physically addictive if extended
use results in a build up of tolerance in the body to the extent
that discontinuing use of the substance results in negative side
effects. Called "withdrawal symptoms," these consequences can
include anxiety, stress, trauma, depression and physical conditions
such as shakes or nausea.

QUOTE
Cannabis is also radically different from tobacco in that it
does not contain nicotine and is not addictive. The psychoactive
ingredient in marijuana, THC, has been accused of causing brain
and genetic damage, but these studies have all been disproven.
In fact, the DEA's own Administrative Law Judge Francis Young has
declared that "marijuana in its natural form is far safer than
many foods we commonly consume."

wow, pysex, you're the most uninformed person i've ever seen when it comes to pot. physically addictive? claiming that it causes permanant damage? yes, liver cells regenerate, but you know what? so do brain cells. (as recent research suggests.) furthermore, go bring some sources for your information, because just about everything you've posted in this thread is a giant crock of shit.

out of body experience? what the fuck are you talking about?

i swear to god I can't think of anything more wasteful to do with my time than smoke dope and be a fucking pothead.

Your not up to speed on your lingo, using the term dope for pot is from the 70's...

Now, dope usually refers to Meth

Usage of substances brings out such sanctimonious attitudes.

It's easy to talk about drugs and alcohol when you have little to no experience. But then you get the kids who have a shitty relative who had "drugs ruin their life" so they like to jump on that story. Or they did something ultra stupid like near-OD on something or some other over the top experience

Drugs, alcohol...these have never ruined anybody's life on their own. Stupidity, weakness, lack of discipline, ignorance....these things have to be combined.

Last time I checked, this thread was about ALCOHOL and not about Cannabis, so let's get back on track. I see nothing wrong with drinking booze in moderation/ even getting slightly drunk or buzzed. The problem with booze is when you get shit faced all the time and kill your liver. I will admit, that sometimes it is good to get fucked up, although I only recommend getting really shit faced twice a year....

pot makes people act ridiculous. it makes them lazy, disrespectful, and seeking a high. potheads shouldnt mix with nonpotheads because in time they all become incredibly irritating.
drugs and drinks in moderation. ok hey slapping some H from time to time im a grade A citizen. i dont believe that.
its how people who "experiment" think they graduated from drug college and thus know what drug addiction and use is like. hey douchebag you smoke some weed you are so englightened man. ridiculous.
go take some acid smoke some pot and talk about how "awesome man itd be to get more pot man"

I don't need any research to tell me that pot makes you lazy. Everyone I know that smokes pot, which is pretty much everyone is a lazy ass. It takes them a couple of hours to do anything. They have to like sit around and think about doing something for like 20 minutes, then start doing it.

why would anyone want to be tied to anything? drinking, smoking, gambling, weed, dependence on someone. all the same thing

But to believe it across the board ?

I have friends who do nothing but get high these days. They are zombies, staring into space, speaking slowly, and waiting for the next chance to get high. It's ridiculous for how "harmless" we perceive pot to be. You'd expect that kind of zombification from a "harder" drug.

But also, there are plenty of people I've known who smoke regularly and they aren't burnouts.

Drugs have different effects on people. Not everybody sits on the couch and watches Aqua Teen Hunger Force after lighting up.

It's people's personal responsibility (or lack thereof) that dictates if they continue to use something that hurts them, or makes them useless etc.

Being tied to anything is bad, but that is human nature. Some people are depended on food, tv, the computer, etc.

I need to quit smoking cigarettes but I still have not. I know it is bad for my health and a waste of money but I still buy them. As for weed, I would not say I am dependent. I have not smoked habitually in a while and have not purchased any in over a month.

Yeah that is my main point. It depends on the person.

"I got drunk once and didn't think much of it."

think of drinking like sex.

the first time is always awkward and wierd. as you do it more often you get better at it and learn to enjoy it more. but moderation is everything.

Acid anyone?

Shit, I've tripped on acid maybe 8 times, never had an OoB experience. I've heard Ketamine makes that happen real easy, but I wouldn't know.

I don't need any research to tell me that pot makes you lazy. Everyone I know that smokes pot, which is pretty much everyone is a lazy ass. It takes them a couple of hours to do anything. They have to like sit around and think about doing something for like 20 minutes, then start doing it.

If you want to talk about someone that's lazy, look in the mirror. You're obviously too lazy to read my post. I didn't say that you should research pot making people lazy, I said you need to research all this other bullshit you spew about permanent damage (brain cells DO regenerate) and it being physically addictive. Seriously, whatever point you're trying to convey isn't getting there, you just sound like an idiot who doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. Even the people that are against pot on here know that you're talking out your ass when you make bullshit claims like these, so just shut the fuck up or go get some supporting evidence for your ridiculous ass claims.

oversensitive much? you sound like a typical addict justifying and defending their drug.

here's some supporting evidence for him: most of my friends became lazy as hell after getting stoned. only thing they had enough energy for was driving to Short Stop for a chili cheese burger and watching deep intellectual programming like Ren & Stimpy. i should know, i was one of those people for about a year.

i don't need some scientific study to tell me what i can see with my own two eyes. it's called common sense, which apparently you have little of (or you're in complete denial, another trait of an addict). and i don't need some scientific study to tell me marijuana carries some form of addiction and dependency. everyone i know who smokes now smokes greater amounts and more often to get the same high compared to when they started. hmm, that sounds like dependency and higher tolerance to me

all I know is I've been around the block with drugs before, mainly pot and hallucinogens with some other potpourri thrown in there, and ya know what?

I have never met to this day a successful person in life who is a stoner. Not one. I've never met people with shittier attitudes towards life than druggies, I've never met druggies who had accomplished a god damned thing with their lives but being druggies ....

But nooooooooo, nah man, smoking pot and candy flipping and doesn't effect you at all, it just makes you happy!

Have you ever really met a happy druggie? I haven't. I've met stoned druggies that while they're on the drug seem to forget their lives suck ... but I've never met a happy one before.

For those of you who might claim I've never "done enough" of somethign to know how it really effects people, I'd say you're right, I was smart enough to never let myself get to that point at least ... so what do you want' a fucking medal for being even dumber than I was for doing more drugs? Fine, here you go ... So with that said, if you're not agreeing with me about it you're probably still all fucked up on something...

Seriously folks, there was one thing you were taught in public education that they really weren't lying about....Drugs are bad, mmmmmk?

To try and steer this thread back on topic...

I was a pretty heavy drinker freshman and sophomore years (fraternity and freedom). I found that I had a weird ability to drink myself stupid and wake up the next morning feeling fine. This was a short lived feeling.

My drinking habits dropped junior year because of health problems and never really picked back up. I just lost interest. Yeah, I'd go have a beer or a margarita with friends but the every weekend partying just fizzled out. For one, I don't like people that much and the other reason being that I hated waking up with dry mouth at 3pm and realizing I had accomplished nothing that weekend.

Yeah, I had a couple more nights where I got too drunk (birthdays) but I regretted it.

I've slowly become a completely social drinker. I'll go have a drink and that's it. I have a glass of wine occasionally as well. The main thing with going to bars with me is that I strongly dislike smelling like an ashtray when I leave. I have no problem with people smoking in public places, especially a bar, I just prefer not to smell like it.

Eh, there's my $.02

I guess my problem with drinking and getting drunk is that I hear people say "hey, let's go get drunk!" too often and every party seemingly has to have alcohol to be "fun". I drink occasionally, like once or twice a month as of late, but I've been considering stopping even that.

Regarding my particular experience getting drunk... I didn't find it awkward or weird. I just found it boring. Frankly, I find sleep deprivation to be a more enjoyable state of mind and it's cheaper to obtain!

The one thing I did think was interesting about being drunk was that, though my motor skills were impaired (I wasn't falling-on-my-ass drunk, but I did stumble a bit while walking), I seemingly had great clarity of mind. Maybe I didn't really and it was just a trick of the alcohol, but I do know that I didn't say or do anything that I wouldn't have sober.

Last pot comment then I'm off the subject: Anyone ever notice that it's only potheads that claim to have this awesome research about pot not making you lazy or stupid? I don't think I've ever had someone that doesn't smoke pot be like man, pot doesn't make you lazy or stupid.

Hartmann, I totally agree with you. Now being a senior after partying the first 3 years here it's like where the fuck did my weekends go. I'm so sick of my friends being like "let's go to a party!" and then you get there and it's 50 people in a backyard just standing there drinking beer. No one's doing anything but wearing their polo shirts drinking beer and talking about the stupidest shit I've ever heard.

I found that I had a serious problem hooking up with people with tons of making out in public places usually with sober people... Why was this a serious problem you guys ask? Well, for one, I didn't talk to these girls later so it was a meaningful relationship killer. For some reason I had the ability to flirt successfully when drunk, something that I am not good at when sober. I am a pretty quiet guy (I mean, I'm a computer nerd for God's sake) so drinking just made me grow some huevos and talk to people.

I decided it was better to do this on my own rather than rely on alcohol for it.

It's people's personal responsibility (or lack thereof) that dictates if they continue to use something that hurts them, or makes them useless etc.

same thing with anything else too... cigarettes, i've seen 90 year old men that smoke that have smoked since they were 12 and have no problems. food, i've seen a guy that was a beanpole and his primary meals were ice cream and bacon that he fried in his microwave every day.

the interesting part is, this doesn't really hold true for alcohol. even if you can "hold" your liquor well, you will still get drunk at one point and your liver still gets shot from large quantities at once.

so yeah, while choice is part of the equation, so is your body (at least until they figure out how to change that wink.gif)

wow, pysex, you're the most uninformed person i've ever seen when it comes to pot. physically addictive? claiming that it causes permanant damage? yes, liver cells regenerate, but you know what? so do brain cells. (as recent research suggests.) furthermore, go bring some sources for your information, because just about everything you've posted in this thread is a giant crock of shit.

out of body experience? what the fuck are you talking about?

you're right...i've never smoked pot and never will
why? because i'm afraid of the psychological implications
i hardly have experience with it because my friends don't smoke it and if they do it's not around me
naturally i have no desire to research about it...it doesn't interest me

if you become relaxed by smoking pot (motor control, muscle relaxation)...that's physical
i don't see how that couldn't be addicting

regardless of what drug you do you're destroying your brain cells
i think the point is moderation...but even in moderation some drugs affect you more than others

IN MY EXPERIENCES with people who smoke pot on a casual to regular basis, they are blatantly retarded.

Don't know why people have to be so fucking superior when it comes to drugs. It's fucking stupid to do any of it, including alcohol, but we're all weak minded trolls with the need for pacification.

i know you have never met anyone who smoked pot and was successful, or have you? In 1997 something like 27 percent of Americans had smoked marijuana, surely some of them are successful. Not to mention many musicians, artists, authors, movie stars etc. that smoke pot and are VERY successful. Again, as I have stressed millions of times, just because you smoke pot does not mean you will become a burnout. Lots of people like to experiment when they are young, and when they get older lead normal, successful lives. Not every college student will become an alcoholic, but I am willing to bet that a fair majority of them will binge drink at one point or another. It is part of having fun while you are a young. I really dont care what people smoke, drink, eat or snort. It is your life, and if you want to do these things be my guest. I am not one to judge, and neither is anyone else because we have all done something.

Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

*checks to make sure Im on the right sn so that I wont annoy people dry.gif *

just read this thread and here is my opinion:

I think that anyone who feels the need to escape using alcohol or drugs is a complete and utter waste of air. That being said, I think that anyone who smokes even the slightest amount of pot is a waste of space. I have never once smoked weed but I have feared failing a drug test because I was stuck at a party with EVERYONE smoking pot. It is irresponsible and stupid to take weed to a party. I just love having to go sit outside in the cold for an hour while everyone lights up because I don't have a ride home and someone brought weed. If the cops show up, everyone (even those not smoking) can get in trouble.

Same thing goes for minors drinking at a party. I hate that shit. I drank publicly probably 4 times before I turned 21. Never did I become wasted. I stopped drinking because I realized that drinking as a minor is very irresponsible. I feel that if you respect yourself and your goals, that you won't do anything that could potentially get yourself into trouble. Additionally, have some respect for your friends. Even if they are 21, they could get in trouble for minors drinking. If you are over 21 and you drink, do so responsibly. I have no problems with that unless you act like a dumbass. Most people act horribly stupid when drunk. When I went to Lubbock 2 weekends ago, I was reminded why college parties can be so fun yet so annoying. There are always those stupid asses that scream, talk loud, barf, stumble and break shit, turn up the music too loud, punch someone....

In synopsis: Everyone in this thread that is defending pot is only doing so because they themselves are potheads. I dont associate with such scum. Dont drink if you are a minor.
