poisoning Options

does anyone know of any poisons that can be given to a dog that can make it drop dead in about 3-4 hours?


Left for school yesterday around 7am, got home around 11:30-12:00, to find one of my dogs just dead. the dog was completly current on all shots and was completly healthy before I left for school, didnt act weird at all, was eating and drinking just fine.

yikes, sorry dude. how old was he/she? was it in the backyard where someone could have access to mess with it or what?

There are probably any number of poisons that could accomplish that. I'd suggest calling your vet and seeing if they could look into it for you.

Well, after a few visits to a vet, we were able to save 2 of the dogs, at least we think so so far. They ran every test we could run, and they came up ok.

The vet told us, that most poisons that dogs injest, as in rat poison, antifreeze, lighter fluid, or various other lawn chemicals, take a few days to take effect and most show signs, because they start to get kidney/liver failure and the signs of the poisoning are pretty clear then.

But they said theres no way to test for every single poison.

As for the autopsy, they werent really sure, because he died between 8:30am and 11am,
there were no signs of struggle, no broken bones, no blood/bleeding, the food and water werent messed with, so we decided against the autopsy, since they wouldnt give us back the dog afterwards to bury it.


The dog that died was 7yrs old, AKC registered, champion bred. I'll find a pic, he was a damn good dog.

could he get out of the yard? Accidental poisinging from antifreeze is probably how it went. I have to stand around and wait for the stuff to evaporate if i flush a radiator

nah, he was on a good 25 ft chain, when we found him, he was in the shade, with plenty of slack in his chain, he had plenty of water in his dish and it really wasnt too hot.

im kinda thinking he might have had a heart attack, kinda weird, but its not that uncommon really.

1st idea... start torturing and killing random nieghbors in search of info. make sure to cut off one of their fingers before you ask a single question, just so they know you mean business.



2nd idea. viking midget rake weilding groundskeepers wearing tightie-whities had a job to do concerning your dog, who was way behind in his protection money. don't worry, it wasn't a grudge or anything, purely business, you understand

I would guess a heart attack as well. It's pretty common. What kind of dog was it? Weight?

Also, it's called a necropsy. And, I wouldn't recommend it. I've assisted on them before and 90% of the time it's impossible to find out what was wrong.
