I didn't read the article carefully enough, but does anyone know if that applies to graduate students? While I'm done with math grad, I still have to take courses for certification if I decide to teach.
What was the flat rate for the summer? I might want to take 8 hours of physics, but not sure on that just yet. -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

im somewhat opposed to it, if it was that case when i first came to tech, i would have no problem, but I will only be taking 12 rhs from now on, and i am going to get fucked over.
if it goes through, they should give the option of if you have been here if you want to continue what you are doing, or go to the flat rate plan. the people that are just coming now then would have no choice -------------------- bored...so i did this

They should have set the flat rate at 12 or 13hours, not 15. Many other universities have it at 12-13 hours with no problems...Tech is just greedy.

Do you not see how the university of tech's size would quickly run out of money if they set it at 12? With the number of college students interested and qualified of attending institutions of higher learning growing as it is, in 2010 there would need to be at least 10 "flagship sized" (45-50k+ undergrads) universities in Texas alone to meet the demand. To help try to minimize the stress, universities are starting to adopt the flat-rate tuition plan not only as a way to make more money to expand the universities facilities (a lot more people are taking less than 15 hours/semester these days as opposed to 10/20/30 years ago), but also try and give students incentive to take more hours and thus graduate a little bit earlier. As a jr. EE student, 18 hour/semesters arent very practical, but i still understand why flat-rate tuition is being adopted across the state. -------------------- ![]() A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have. |

The University of New Mexico has 26,399 people and they aren't going belly up with a flat tuition rate for 12-18 hours. How many people does Tech have?

Well I read the Toreador article about the flat-rate tuition plan and concluded that it was an atrocious article, to say the least. From what I know about flat-rate tuition plans, though, it should 1) only apply to full-time students (12+ hours) and 2) only apply to undergraduate students. But this is Tech -- who fucking knows what they'll do.

Try researching and looking for information ourself instead of relying on an article in the already-known-to-be-craptacular UD/DT
there is something different for 1-11 hours , 12-15 hours pay as 15 hours, and I think 18 hours pays something else too. I cannot remember fully, the pay per hour might have changed too, its not COMPLETELY screwing the part-time student like the article is implying. http://www.texastech.edu/stories/new-tuition-plan.php (however "quothe the server 404") |

Dear Student:
The Board of Regents approved tuition costs for 2006-2007. The resident graduate tuition is $185 per credit hour. Because all graduate students are charged the same per credit hour regardless of the number of hours taken, graduate students will not be impacted by the new modified tuition or tuition credit program for undergraduates. That's nice. $185/hr is not though. -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

ok you all suck. i called student business and got the real answer. you will only be charged for how many hours you take. people who take 12 hours will NOT be charged for 15 hours of courses. what happens is, people who are taking 15 hours or more, if divided out, will wind up paying less per credit hour than those taking twelve hours. so the rate is the same as its been for those taking less than 15, and then those with 15 or more are getting a break/reward. so dont run around trying to find 15 hours just to not waste money.
what sucks is that she said its a reward to those with heavy course loads instead of a punishment for less than 15ers but in the end, its still unfair because someone sitting next to you in class may have paid less than you to be in the same class with the same material, requirements etc -------------------- Forget regret

It's not really a flat rate tuition.
If it was a flat rate tuition, it would stay the same for everyone. This is a variable rate tuition, because it changes for how many hours you take. -------------------- ![]() |
