Quote from the bill: QUOTE To provide for the common defense by requiring all persons in the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes This bill was introduced February 14th and is scheduled to be debated and possibily adopted on 6-6-06. I'm not worried. Draft bills get made up all the time and get shot down.

This is like the 20th draft bill Rangel has proposed. I don't know why he doesn't just give up.

QUOTE (woody @ Jun 5 2006, 11:39 PM) wtf does that mean? Red Cross, EMT ... somehing that would be useful during an all-out war or national emergency. Germany does this, but most women can't hack it in the Army, so chicks spend their two years doing some sort of other job to free up men to carry rifles. |

Most women are every bit as capable of being in the military as a man is. It's just that society teaches them that said things are un-femenin. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! I'd support a bill that stated that people in this country need to get off their asses and work real jobs out in the cotton fields, oil patches, meat packing plants, etc .... so that all the illegals will stop coming over to do those jobs....
heh IF we drafted people and made them work those jobs I'd support it but not to kill minorities in the name of god and shit. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

Nursing and administrative and other non combat fields do exist. I would like to see something like the public works, but only if they did pay for higher education too, maybe not fully just a 1:1 trade for time spent.. |

I'd rather serve with the type of female mindset that volunteers for the military, than draft some of those myspace gotti and emo guys...
fuck that shit! I'm not saying you couldn't mold those dudes into something acceptable, but many guys today are just whiney, coddled twats and I wouldn't want to have to. all voluntary is the only way... |

QUOTE (M1N10N @ Jun 6 2006, 12:32 PM) That reminds me ... would they draft known gays? Based on what I've seen about the military's policy on gays, it's notoriously flexible when the military really needs people. QUOTE The degree of official and unofficial attempts to separate homosexuals from the armed forces seems to be directly related to the personnel needs of the armed forces. Hence, during wartime, it has not been uncommon for the rules regarding homosexuality to be relaxed, and up until 1981 it was the policy of all branches of the armed forces to retain a homosexual, at their discretion, thus promoting the "queen for a day" rule. This especially became the case during the Vietnam War, where some heterosexuals would fake homosexuality in an attempt to avoid being drafted or to be discharged rather than be shipped to Vietnam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_ask_don%27t_tell -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! I think people would be more likely to harbor resentment towards an oppressive force that took away several years of freedom... and I know I wouldn't want to be in a shit sandwich with a dude who's like "man fuck the marines for putting me here!" no thanks... |

one volunteer and one drafted, then we can send in the drafted guys first |
