I'm gonna be getting a new computer pretty soon so I wanted some input on this build. I don't have alot of money so I really don't need the whole "get this $300 thing that does the same thing as the $50 thing but its a (instert computer lingo here) so its better" I want to know that if I got this, it would go together and work and I wouldn't have to send it back because I got things incompatable with each other.
https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishli...tle=My+Computer Thanks. -------------------- FUCK YOU

I like everything on it but the Western Digital hard drive. I've never been a fan of theirs at all...
I remember on three seperate occasions we ordered ~30 drives from them to put in computers and wound up sending half of them back each time. Since then I've never been a fan of WD at all. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

You already got an answer from James on this, but for future reference, here are the things you want to look for in determining whether a build is good: 1) Will the mobo fit in the case you've chosen? 2) Does your case have enough bays for the drives you want? 3) Does the mobo support your chosen processor and RAM? 4) Does the mobo have enough PCI slots for the cards you want? (And ISA slots, if applicable). 5) If you're getting an AGP video card, does the mobo have an AGP slot? Am I forgetting anything, guys? I think this is about it for a basic computer. -------------------- |

If he's getting PCI-E vid card, does it have a PCI-E slot of the right speed. I forgot to check that.
I also didn't check RAM since he didn't have any posted. -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

Looks good still. I just double checked ram and vid card. I just hope that generic ram is ok. I'd go to www.crucial.com and get it from there, but that's just me.

Newegg is also kind of expensive.
I just quoted myself a new gaming machine from scratch from them and it was $2500 .... I guess actually that doesn't seem too terribly expensive for using pretty good components though .... I dunno, ordering it all from one place is a LOT easier than screwing around trying to order each peice from a low-bidder you found on pricewatch .... -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

Newegg is cheap. You're only going to save a couple bucks on pricewatch and then not going to have the great customer service that you get with Newegg. Their RMAs are very fast and easy.

If you can find 2 GB for a decent price and better name, I'd go for it. Make sure your video card has a DVI output on it. Maybe get SATA hard drive instead of IDE. Other than that, seems fine for a while. Just keep it cleaned to prolong the life of the fans. I'm most guilty of not doing this -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

dogmeat you're my exact opposite here...
earlier you dissed western digital... i've had nothing but WD for like 10 years and they've been great. got 700GB worth of WD in my machine right now. then you said newegg was expensive... how do you figure that? then on processors... Intel rules. |

dude, spend the extra $35 and put 2GB in it instead of 1.5. having two unmatched sticks not running in dual channel mode sucks.
and do you have a hard drive already? also looks like a pretty big loud ass power supply... prob overkill for what you're gettin. |
