I can't really blame you, Jim, or anyone else for this, because unless you're an oldschool computer geek, you won't have any idea at all what a MUD game was, is, was like, or still is like, nor would you have any idea what it was like to completley dedicate your life to them in much the same fashion people do to WoW today. I started playing those games when I was about 10 or so and played them till I was about 15, and, like WoW, it was the single most addictive thing, as well as hugest waste of time, I've ever partaken in. WoW to me was incredibly nostalgic right down to running WoW glider with macros and whatnot to try and lighten up the mundane drudergy that "grinding" is.

Thank god I realized WoW for what it really was and stopped playing.

Again, as I've said, WoW is essentially a GUI front-end to an oldschool DikuMUD, CircleMUD, name your favorite engine MUD game. Given with the profitibility of the game, the resources available to Blizzard, etc, it's an incredibly fancy mud game, but still, at it's core, that's ALL it is.

It's a mud game. It plays ___EXACTLY___ like CircleMUD used to. There is virtually no difference in gameplay whatsoever, not even so much with PvP. The game is utterly pointless until you become a high level character doing PvP battles, as it always was with PK-enabled MUD games.

Essentially, WoW is the game every 12 year old kid in the late 80's and early 90's playing CircleMUd wished they had, because it had a cool GUI and music and whatnot and wasn't entirley text based...

But, as I'll say again, even with the fancy schmany graphics, the game at it's core plays so much like CircleMUD at one point I seriously couldn't tell any difference at al between logging back into a mud game and just reading text as opposed to looking at neat cartoons on the screen.

So, you played the game, got addicted, and then realized you were stupid? From what was said here it sounds more like you sucked at the game so you quit playing ( you used cheats & hacks and couldn't get past level 40?). Honestly the fun for me is playing with my friends. There's 3-4 buds of mine that I used to work with when I lived in Lubbock that group together plus about 5-10 others we've gotten to know that all play the game together and chat over voice chat. If I was playing by myself and not ever grouping with others, sure it'd probably get boring, and it has a few times and I took 3-4 months off of it. I didn't call other people stupid for playing it though, and I don't understand your need to.
