QUOTE (Jim @ Oct 10 2007, 08:54 PM) *
I can kill you with a knife. Ban knives.
I can kill you with my copy of Black's Law Dictionary. Ban dictionaries.
I can kill you with a brick. Ban masonry.

What now?

The tool is not evil. The way the tool is used is. Learn the difference and you'll see that banning guns is dumb.

you can't kill 15 people in a minute with a knife or a brick...or a dictionary. unless you're a ninja.

it's funny that there seems to be this huge fear that some big dude is gonna break down your door in the middle of the night and kill your whole family. and you NEED this gun to feel safe. i've lived for 25 years, a few in a crappy neighborhood, and never had anyone break into my house. much less with weapons drawn ready to blow holes in my body. i think the real reason that you need your guns is the first explanation that cupcake gave.

I would feel vulnerable and inept.

I wouldn't have near the self-confidence.

not to mention there arent 30million people capable to fire a gun in america. (total population doesnt differentiate between babies, amputees, and severely disabled. also not to mention all the people in the military that i guess in this scenario the "average" person would be fighting against. and then the military's civilian supporters) so all in all a few hundred rednecks who have convinced themself to take on the government with assault rifles would have no chance. unless they buy WMD's from the axis of evil but thats not 'merican.

do you not realize that if the govt tried to take away the right to bear arms that we'd have a civil war on our hands...and no the military will not just blindly follow such a ridiculous and unconstitutional act.

the guys who serve in the mil (to include the high ranking officers) would be the first to take their toys and declare a true american state. that is a fact jack.

i lived part time/worked on a ranch for several years

coyotes are never a problem. a cow will go after one and that says a lot

you have wolves threatening you?! OMG they dont exist in texas anymore or many other places

if rabies = call your local CDC and they will inspect your property for free (there are also vaccines for rabies)

if we had a better education system and more social programs maybe you wouldnt have a 9ft tall 400lb redneck beating down your door

were they robbers or just mexicans? because not all illegals are out to kill you. and if they have guns somehow more evidence imo to outlaw guns!

what are you going to do when you meet mr. mtn lion while cruising along a trail en route to clear brush in buffalo gap.

oh wait, you won't. I have.

"if attacked fight back"

sorry...on our recreational land, mtn lions and predators are not welcome and a big cat posturing and groaning all hunched is enough attack for me...

cmac, you may not have had your house broken into, but plenty of other people had, you may not have been attacked by a mtn lion while still coming across one, but other people have.

just because you haven't had to use a fireman doesn't mean other people haven't or needed to

nothing personal but your coming off as since you haven't needed to use a gun, no one else shouldn't

of course there's rare instances where people may need a gun.

like if you're in the mafia/crips/bloods and fear for your life.
or there's a pack of rabid widabeasts that have moved in next door.
or the apocalypse.

but in general every day life for 98% of the population there is no need for a deadly weapon. i see it as a cop out. there are other ways to solve problems.

Remember, Cannonball, take a big gigantic dog no matter where you go with you. They will scare off the man trying to mug you.

QUOTE
Encounters with cougars are rare and the risk of injury or death from an attack is infinitely small. In fact, your chances of being attacked or killed by a domestic dog are much, much greater.

QUOTE
Mountain lions hunt primarily at night and unprotected pets, sheep and goats are easy prey. You can also install outside lighting, clear brush away from around your home, or get a guard dog.

QUOTE
There are numerous breeds of guard dogs being used for livestock protection in the United States. They include: Akbash (Turkey), Great Pyrenees (France & Spain), Komondor (Hungary), Shar Planinetz (Yugoslavia), Maremma (Italy), Kuvasz (Hungary), Anatolian Shepherds (Turkey), Polish Tatra & Tibetan Mastiff. According to the Department of Fish & Game, any of these measures can be taken to protect livestock from lions, dogs and coyotes.
