QUOTE
On 25 May 1994, The U.S. Senate Banking Committee released a report in which it was stated that pathogenic, toxicological, and other biological research materials were exported to Iraq, pursuant to application and licensing by the U.S. Department of Commerce. It added: "These exported biological materials were not attenuated or weakened and were capable of reproduction."[47] The report then detailed 70 shipments (including Anthrax Bacillus) from the United States to Iraqi government agencies over three years, concluding that "these microorganisms exported by the United States were identical to those the UN inspectors found and recovered from the Iraqi biological warfare program.

QUOTE
On 21 March 1986, the United Nations Security Council made a declaration stating that "members are profoundly concerned by the unanimous conclusion of the specialists that chemical weapons on many occasions have been used by Iraqi forces against Iranian troops and the members of the Council strongly condemn this continued use of chemical weapons in clear violation of the Geneva Protocol of 1925 which prohibits the use in war of chemical weapons." The United States was the only member who voted against the issuance of this statement.

QUOTE
The United States, United Kingdom, and Germany also provided "dual use" technology (computers, engines, etc.) that allowed Iraq to expand its missile program and radar defenses. The U.S. Commerce Department, in violation of procedure, gave out licenses to companies for $1.5 billion in dual-use items to be sent to Iraq. The State Department was not informed of this. Over 1 billion of these authorized items were trucks that were never delivered. The rest consisted of advanced technology. Iraq's Soviet-made Scuds had their ranges expanded as a result

QUOTE
The United States exported $500 million of dual use exports to Iraq that were approved by the Commerce department. Among them were advanced computers, some of which were used in Iraq€™s nuclear program. The non-profit American Type Culture Collection and the Centers for Disease Control sold or sent biological samples to Iraq under Saddam Hussein up until 1989

QUOTE
In all, Iraq received $35 billion in loans from the West and between $30 and $40 billion from the Gulf States during the 1980s.

so sending money, trucks, and computers = weapons? and of course we wouldn't care if they used chemical weapons against Iran.

and in the case of the biological material which resulted in weapons, or other chemical weapons and such, it's funny to me to see the liberal dipshits point these kinds of things out, only to come out later against the reasons for going to war (that saddam had these weapons). oh well i guess evidence and common sense only matters when it supports your theory.

Conveniently left out a step, Chucky. wink.gif whistling.gif

Haven't found any yet though, no "massive stockpiles of anthrax, botulinin toxin, and vx nerve agent" or any nuclear weapons program...or anyweapons program ready to strike the homeland, durka durka jihad~~!!!!!! But hey, let's keep switching around justifications for war. That's been a fun game these past several years!

Chuck, as you usually see fit, you fail to see the forest for the trees. We gave him biological samples of

QUOTE
anthrax, West Nile virus and botulism, as well as Brucella melitensis, which damages major organs, and clostridium perfringens, which causes gas gangrene.

Now, you may see fit to ignore the evidence that the US had a hand, along with several other western industrial powers, in the development and implementation of Iraq's chemical, biological and even nuclear weapon programs. Just because the citizens of the United States of Amnesia refuse to realize and understand some of the darker and more foolish moments of our past does not mean that they did not happen. And for better or worse we are facing the consequences of actions and events that we helped put into motion.

You seem to believe that "liberals" (such a dirty word!) are "flip-flopping" on this issue because we are quick to point out that there were no weapons of mass destruction present in Iraq during and after the invasion, but at the same time admit that these weapons existed. Unfortunately for you , this is not a contradiction. Any sane person would admit that Saddam had these weapons during the Iran/Iraq war and up into the gulf war. However in the years between 1992 and 2003 the chemical, biological, and nuclear research programs and weapons had been eliminated through inspections and sanctions imposed upon Iraq.

So, the original pretext for the Iraq war was and still is a lie. I am not saying that we must withdrawal troops immediately. We destroyed the country for a false reason but we can't just leave it in ruins. Letting Iran fill that power vacuum would be a disaster for American foreign policy. Either way, I guess Bush will win in the end, further tarnishing American prestige.

i didn't say you were wrong about the weapons. fine... so we let some weapons through so they could drop some on iran without us getting any flak. i got no problem with that. but for you or any other liberal to sit there and talk about how we gave them to him, then try to claim he didn't have any and wasn't developing them just before the war, it's the straight definition of naivity. so it was a 'lie' for bush to say it, but not a 'lie' for hilary? talk about double standards. i give bush more points for sticking to his guns instead of floppin around like a fish outta water tryin to get votes. hell bush still won another election after the war began. kinda shows you where the american people really stand, regardless of what bullshit polls the liberal ass media comes up with.

One, I hate Hillary Clinton and do not consider myself "liberal" or democrat. So I personally have no conflict of interest.

Two, George Bush and his cabinet are not the only ones to blame for this war. There are many others, like Hillary, who voted in support of military action but have now changed their stance in order to garner political support from the American people who are tired of the war.

It is not naive of me to claim there were no weapons in Iraq because everyone knows that zero weapons were ever retrieved after the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Also, the reasoning behind the conflict changed on an almost daily basis, going from "hey he has WMDS", to things such as "Let's spread democracy", "Saddam was a bad guy" or " we have to stabilize Iraq". Even if he was still developing WMDs when we invaded it still shows a major flaw in US foreign policy seeing as we provided the technology and know how to create those weapons!

the reasons for going to war never changed. read the speech above, even hilary mentioned "regime change" and the fact that it was our goal dating back as far as 1998. and yes, it's naive as hell of anyone to believe the man really disarmed himself. would you believe iran or north korea if their leader just told you that they weren't developing weapons too? would you believe me if i was a world leader and came over and told you rain wasn't wet? i guess you'd believe anything.

and for someone who doesn't claim to be liberal or a democrat, you sure seem to agree with them.

So in other words, the pretense for the war wasn't wrong. We knew damned good and well he had WMD's because WE FUCKING GAVE THEM TO HIM..

I've known this since this all began.

And I STILL say that there is something to be said about the "honey pot" theory about this war.

Meaning, we put a carrot on a stick in front of Al Qaida .... that carrot was Iraq, and they saw it as their chance to gain a country for themselves after we uprooted the Taliban from Afghanistan if they could beat us in the culture war there ..

So, they've focused what resources they have there. I believe this has benefitted us greatly, as we haven't suffered another major attack since....If they're concentrating their resources there they have less to attack us with, even if they are a non-traditional enemy ...

Call me cold, but I say better this war fought over there than here.
