awesome graph, so if our industrial age was the culprit, how the hell did the temperatures go up from ~1900-1940 or so, then go down from 1940-1960 or so, then back up?

I'm not sure how that's supposed to refute global warming. I mean, I never said that industrialization was the one and only factor on our environment.

uh... DUH... you think the treehuggers want to release info like this?

Sigh... ever seen the movie snatch? Bullet tooth Tony's line "You should never underestimate the predictabiltiy of stupidity," seems relevant because I knew you would make that argument. Notice I never said that tree huggers were going to release this. You would figure that if this was the big piece of research the article claims it is it would be in some mainstream media source other than a bunch of two-bit conservative blogs. Unless you still cling to the "liberal media" myth.

i believe global warming is quite real, but i think the cause is natural instead of man-made

that doesn't let man off the hook though, we should start thinking about renewable clean energy now, fish are dying in our oceans, rivers are polluted, and we're killing off large numbers of species

this x 2

I mean, pollution is affecting the environment too, but I don't see a decades worth of emissions causing Katrina or some hippie shit. Hell, my biggest arguement against pollution is pretty much aesthetic...it fucking ruins the surroundings and makes for shitty living. Who wants to breathe in Mexico City's air quality everywhere they go?!?

i don't think you get what i'm saying. if we had a 20 year period of cooling right smack in the middle of our industrial time, what was the cause? did we reverse production and suck all teh CO2 out of the air for 20 years?

are you serious? hell that's why fox news gets the 'conservative bias' label, because the rest of the media is so f'n liberal.

This isn't that big a deal. Remember a while back when his electricity bill was released and was like 20x the average American home? He offsets his carbon consumption (whatever it may be) by purchasing carbon credits.

As for global warming goes, I think it is rather silly with the argument that "it's cold out today/warm out today global warming must be false/true"

One isn't going to feel the affects on a day-to day or year-to-year basis. I thought the crux of global warming is the idea of a gradual temperature increase (like single degree within centuries) and eventually it will become a problem.

In addition, I tend to agree with respectable diverse group of scientists of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which says there is a 90% probability that the increase in temperatures from mid-20th century is due to humans. I find probabilities more appealing that certainties (the we are/aren't argument), but idk...

right, so it's okay to produce something that is irreversible as long as you can buy your right to pollute from somebody who is doing the right thing.

i couldn't give two shits if this was a normal business or country, but gore needs to practice what he preaches. he's the overweight nutritionist, certainly doesn't deserve any nobel prize.

...when did carbon emissions become "something that is irreversible"? I guess we are fucked no matter what steps we take to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions since it is "irreversible."

I don't see how buying carbon credits isn't practicing what he preaches.
He is essentially investing in businesses who are decreasing carbon emissions to offset his own carbon emissions. Something a large majority of the United States isn't doing.
If he (or millions of people like him) wasn't there purchasing the credits there would be little market for a business to emerge who's primary objective is to reduce emissions.

Shrug* I guess it is easier just to call him a hypocrite and move on.
