Texture of the skin or the meat?
Texture can also differ. I've had some with really soft meat and some with a crisper meat. Maybe it's the seeds and gelish-like substance they reside in that you don't like? -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

Were they regular tomatoes? Roma tomatoes are much firmer than your typical tomatoes, so you might give those a try.
