I've been reading Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. I'm almost done with it.

finished The Life of Pi a bit ago. it took me about 80 pages to get into. its a pretty long plot set up but once it gets into the major storyline and conflict its really engrossing

QUOTE
What is there to say about a novel in which a young boy shares a lifeboat with a fully grown Bengal tiger named Richard Parker? If the book is Yann Martel̢۪s Life of Pi, there̢۪s quite a lot to be said. This is definitely one of the most unusual novels of the year (if not the most), yet the story it tells is so profound and moving that the more enlightened readers will get behind its many oddities to the message at its core.

on a migration from india to canada with his family in the 1970s the cargo shit that is housing them and their zoo animals sink. crazy stuff happens and Pi ends up being thrown into a lifeboat with a hyena as a "testing of waters" by some of the crew. zebra jumps into the lowered boat and breaks its leg badly, an orangutan makes it way onto the boat and finally a bengal tiger swims aboard. soon they are all killed by the tiger except for Pi (the 16 yr old boy). with his family dead he survives 7 months at sea with the tiger. twice he sees land but the first is super creepy and he has good reason to flee it for uncertainty and the ocean.
he goes crazy from malnutrition, heat stroke and dehydration and suffers gory delusions but they are possibly true?
everything post ship sinking ends up being in question well nearly everything.

deeper message of how humanity relates to god, animals and how closely related they all are. with a bit of the workings of reason and survival
liked it

Dark Star by Alan Dean Foster. It's alright. Definitely better than the movie.
